  1. I'd rather see it in Clayton, MO. Don't think they'd want it though, too much congestion.
  2. Houston/Florida goes 9-9, the Cubs will have to go 16-2. You say toast I say yep
  3. Craig, you'll be interested to know that the Cubs told him "to rest" for the next months. I asked if they had plans to put him on an off-season throwing program as well as a conditioning program and they told him just to rest.
  4. They're better off with a new stadium, now they need to do something around the stadium. Warehouses and a bunch hotels doesn't do much for me. Neither does the Bowling HOF, which is oddly connected to the Cards HOF. They need to take the stadium club with them though. From the looks of the park when I seen it in July, it is coming along nicely.
  5. Sinkerballers are typically worse off in the early innings and get better the longer they get tired b/c they stop overthrowing. With that said, Marquis could do fine out of the pen if Duncan extends his warmup time. I know Marquis has been prone to meltdowns later in the ballgame and pitch better early, but he's going against the grain of a tradit. sinker ball pitcher. I still question his ability to concentrate as well. As far as the rotation... Carp Mulder (hopefully a night game for STL) Suppan Morris Marquis Tavarez King Reyes Isringhausen Thompson Flores (they'll go with Eldred over Thompson)
  6. If Sean has a solid performance down at Fitch, he'll likely start at AA. I'd rather see him start at Daytona get 10 starts under his belt and see how he handles the very important jump from Peoria to Daytona.
  7. http://www.northsidebaseball.com/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=14556&start=0 I wanted him last year, nobody listens.
  8. As far as being a teammate, I've heard less than cordial things about him.

  10. With the age of this team, payroll, and beliefs held by Hendry and Baker, this team will make moves for the short-term 1st. The Cubs will do everything in their power to appease the fans who are bitter over this year's performance. Nomar (05'), Burnitz (05'), Hawkins (04'), Maddux (04') were expensive FAs brought in for the short-term. I think the free agents brought in will be to win next year in a similar fashion. This team isn't rebuilding and they won't be building for the future, which means they'll be trying to win it all, probably in a similar fashiom as they did last off-season.
  11. The Cubs have enough flexibility to dance around the 40 man roster without losing anyone of importance. As we found out last year, it just depends who they allow to picked up via Rule 5 and who they remove off the 40 man roster. The Cubs will try and win it all next year, to do so, they'll have to improve the pen. The pen you listed would have to work out perfectly to become an above avg. pen as everyone would have to stay healthy and not regress, I see that bullpen as avg. at best. Meanwhile, the pen I listed would likely if everything worked out, would be one of the top 5 in the game. Even if it didn't go as planned, it could still be an above avg. pen.
  12. As a baseball fan 1st, I'd like to see more kids playing baseball no matter what their race. It just happens happens to be one race that is lacking in the overall numbers. What also adds importance is the struggles of Robinson getting into MLB, the hardships of the Negro Leagues, etc.. There is no other sport that has had nearly as much racial tension of MLB, that is what separates it from other sports...
  13. They're better than nothing, they're flawed, some are better than nothing. Once Litchman was hired by the Cards his UZR is no longer avail... UZR was the best defensive stat of them all. I'll have to wait to see what David Pinto's PMR tells us. PMR is the best defensive stat avail.
  14. I think it's the difference between wanting an avg. pen and a great pen. Say you get Ryan and Sauerbeck, the pen likely becomes one of the top 5 in MLB.
  15. Similar FRAA, Ensberg has a higher FRAR. I changed Giles as the GG winner and not Castillo.
  16. The beauty of a short series can benefit teams like Flo. and take away from teams like ATL. Based more on the hot team rather than the better team. Overall, there hasn't been a team nearly as good as the Braves over the last 15 years.
  17. Odd how I didn't include any Cubs on the list? How I could I not include Lee? I am a Cubs fan, Lee should win the GG... My bias didn't override the stats, what a concept.
  18. C-Schneider 1B-Helton 2B-Giles SS-Furcal 3B-Ensberg OF-Taveras, Edmonds, B. Clark Taveras will soon become the best defensive OF'er in MLB. Of course, the Cubs will run on him when they get the chance and be thrown out by 15 feet.
  19. I'd unload Thome if I was Philly, it would be a great accomplishment to get rid of his contract. I actually like Thome, he's one of the better people in the game, I know the reg. supervisor who signed him and he's said nothing but positives about his character.
  20. Given the history and struggles of MLB, I think it merits discussion.

  22. Screen Name. OK. I usually go by Socnorb11. Feel free to do some research, if it makes you feel better. I'm not sure what the point is, though. Welcome aboard dyslexic broncos...
  23. Solid post, it happens all the time. It depends where a batter gets hit more than if he gets hit that should determine any form of punishment. The pitcher in the sequence was Gibson. That's fair almost 30 years ago and should be fair today by being retaliated on the field and not an ump, who ejects a player on the 1st high and tight pitch.
  24. On the 1st AB, did anyone else see Pujols favoring his left foot when chasing the foul ball?
