    Increasing his workload before the game could potentially be a disaster later on in the game. You add on early, you'll be taking away later on in the game. Think the Cubs coaching staff would contemplate the thought of since we worked him harder before the game, so we should monitor his fatigue level earlier and maybe pull him earlier than we used to? I don't. His location hasn't been as good as it once was, especially early in the ballgame. I would tinker with what he is doing in the pregame rather than how much he is doing in the pregame.

    Yes, I'm sure the scorekeeper hasn't been following Lee's production all year and suddenly realized "holy *! Lee is vying for a batting title, I better change it!". Or he just likes conspiracy. Idiocy at its finest (the thought process behind it). If scorekeeper is "fixing" the batting title, why did he not call it a hit in the 1st place?

    Before they replace Barrett with a defensive minded C, who are they going to get for the OF and SS? Also, would you replace Walker as well since he is a "defensive liability" at 2B? B/c if you replace Barrett and Walker with better defenders who aren't as strong offensively, not only will they prevent the opposition from scoring more, they'll prevent the Cubs from scoring more. Quite the definition of a defensive ballplayer, if you ask me.

    If you take away Yadi's terrible start to his rookie year (11-64), he would be hitting .280 (75-268). He just turned 23 in July, so I would imagine that he will only improve offensively after he gets some more experience. He was below avg. offensively throughout his minor league career as well, his offensive ceiling is maybe an avg. player (.750 OPS/.263 EqA). He'll likely be a 7/8 hitter for his career, unless something dramatic occurs.

    Why does everyone think we should have so-and-so as a LOOGY? Hasn't Ohman done a dang good job? They could and should have 2 lefties out of the pen, while the NL Central is mostly RH dominated with the exception of Dunn and an aging Edmonds/Griffey, there's enough there to create a need for two LOOGYs. Especially with Ohman, he'll have off nights with his control as we recently witnessed. Personally, I want Sauerbeck via FA. What are your thoughts on Scott Eyre, who's also a free agent? Eyre would work just as well, overall he's better against RH'ers than Sauerbeck.

    I completely agree, UK. There's just no reason for it, considering it's a meaningless game, the rosters are expanded (meaning there are plenty of pitchers available), Carpenter has already pitched alot this year, and the Cards had a 3-run lead heading into the 7th. I was hoping that Larussa would have an expanation in the PD this morning, but I don't see anything. Maybe you and I are the only ones questioning it, but there's no justification, in my opinion. Eh, I'm probably one of the most extreme as far as pulling pitchers if the outcome has already been decided. You've seen what I would do as far as skipping a start for Carpenter and Morris while pushing Suppan and Mulder starts back a couple of days at the end of the year in this final month. I don't think it would their progression going into the preseason, it's not all about rest (having him throw side-sessions as far as the workout schedule in-between starts would keep his skills sharp). Also, I've been on record as bringing up a 12th pitcher at various points during the year to skip a start on two occasions for each of the 5 starters. Nothing wrong with working a starter when you need to, but to do so just b/c it is a luxury is careless and a luxury you might not have for long.

    It is interesting to see how Milton baffles the Cubs with his loopy curve and avg. FB, I agree that Murton has the ideal approach for Milton by taking the curve to RF and pulling the FB. Ruhle has done a great job since taking over as PC for Cincy.

    Interesting. What is Baker putting in their Kool Aid? Seriously, do the players not mind these lineups? Do they not get frustrated when the wrong moves are being made? Is Baker's unrelenting defense of his veterans when they screw up really that endearing? I hope they don't, as critical as I and some have been w/Dusty, I hope they stand behind Baker and his decisions 100% (as bad as they might be). His strength as a manager is his support as a manager to his players, I hope that is also vice versa with the players supporting and standing behind Baker.

    If the Cubs fired Dusty, after this year's performance I think there would be enough there to not have race enter the equation as to why he was fired. Now, if the Cubs didn't hire him and passed him up for a lesser known quantity, I think race would be enter the equation and incorrectly so, as I didn't want Baker hired for a lesser known quantity. If people can't separate the fact the Cubs underachieved with him at the helm with the color of his skin, you're catering to the ignorant by bringing it up for discussion.

    Plus, Sean needs to improve his change. I think with his advanced FB and curve, he would be better off improving his change at High-A rather than AA. He hit 95 on the gun (sitting in the low 90s), according to his agent.
