  1. Do you have any proof to back that up? One could just as easily say that Maddux keeps Wood and Prior injured - these shenanigans began in 2004, when the Cubs signed him, after all.
  2. What do you think the chances are that Wood goes to the Yankees as a FA, they give him a two-year deal, and it turns into gold for both parties?
  3. Yup. Does anyone have any good wallpaper for summer? I need something to replace my Wrigley Field background on my PC.
  4. Larry Stone outdid himself this past Sunday with a cool feature about baseball radio announcers. I particularly liked Jon Miller's comparison of TV vs. radio announcing: Baseball on television, Giants broadcaster Jon Miller has said, is a movie. "But baseball on radio is a novel." I didn't think he was that smart! :P
  5. What's the hubbub in the Reds' dugout that Pat mentioned? Some ump mildly ticked.
  6. There is. it's called the other owners. Right, I meant someone who didn't have a vested interest in its own money making. Owners making decisions based on how they think a new owner will affect their bottom line is skewed reasoning to my mind Well, the Commissioner USED to have that kind of a role, but we all know what that situation is now. I think that MLB Commishes should be past judges or magistrates. I don't think Emperor Bud knows or cares much about stuff like "the appearance of impropriety". The whole org is running out of control - oversight of what the owners do is a joke as it stands now. I doubt it changes unless Congress steps in and threatens to take away MLB's antitrust exemption.
  7. I am such a sucker. I find out about Wood's win on ESPN's Bottom Line ticker yesterday afternoon, and I make plans to tune in today.
  8. OTOH, the last time we brought back the human K machine, he quickly left and Aramis, Randall Simon, and Kenny Lofton came in.
  9. Probably should make this a Polls question, but I'm too lazy.
  10. Exactly. If you didn't see the game (which I hadn't, and doubt you did), read the PBP. Neifi's TWO errors and JJ's fielding sealed the deal. I figure Demps was truly responsible for the first run in the 9th only.
  11. If the Cubs were even a skotch better, I'd recommend pulling an Earl Weaver for a couple, few weeks, and throw Z out there every third game till Wood and Prior were ready... provided they'll ever BE ready.
  12. Oh, good. Ronnie singing Take Me Out of the Ballgame. No posers today.
  13. Maybe Andy will take a page out of the current administration, deciding to pull a Karen Hughes and resign to be with his family. NAH.
  14. The idea just drifted into my head a second ago. Eric Karros as Cub manager - whaddya think?
  15. Or how about this one: "WALKS TURN INTO RUNS ... JUST ASK THE CUB PITCHERS." Or this one: "I wanted to see a good baseball game, but I came here instead for the Old Style."
  16. Yes, it is in my sig (as you can see below). Obviously asking questions isn't getting the point across to Hendry and Dusty. We could also have a sign that says "WALKS CLOG UP THE BASES." Or how about this one: "WALKS TURN INTO RUNS ... JUST ASK THE CUB PITCHERS."
  17. Only if you want to see basebrawls every two weeks. Which, considering this team, might at least be entertaining.
  18. Here's something I would love to see: You all have seen that long Bonds sign in (is it?) soccer's sig. Every home game, as often as possible before the trade deadline, I'd like to see a sign of similar proportions that says, "IT'S ABOUT THE OBP, STUPID" hovering just above the juniper bushes in center.
  19. I can't choose either option. Mine is more like, "The more the Cubs continue to stink it up this year, the better I feel about Barrett clocking someone, particularly a tool like Pierzynski.
  20. But then again...who is going to throw AJ Burnett money at Prior...when he is still on the DL? That's what I'm saying - timing is everything. I grant that I am paranoid, but I do wonder whether Mark and his dad are trying to calculate the right time to get back in the game and stay there. Heck, I'm not sure if I were Prior, given the freak accidents and bad turns I'd had on this team, if I'd want to give my right arm for these chumps either. But as a fan the thought of that kind of calculation ticks me off to no end.
  21. I don't know about deserving a WS, although it sure would be nice. But for the money invested in this franchise, what the fans DO deserve is a better all-around product, one that wins 90-plus games more years than not. Playoff performance, especially since the advent of the Wild Card, IMO does not provide an accurate measurement of how good a team really is. OTOH, Wrigley and curses sell all too well.
  22. How many innings would Prior need to put in and when, in order to get his stock up such that he garners a fat contract with the Padres or Dodgers (or, perhaps the Angels) when the Cubs no longer have rights to him? I have this sneaking suspicion that in a couple of years, he will leave the Cubs behind just like with Vandy in college.
  23. I was thinking rabies, myself. But then you'd have to round them up and have them tested. Problem is, if Lil' Joe ;-) did test positive, he wouldn't be that much different from the rest of the Sox fans. ;-) (That's why I doubt I ever attend a game at the Cell Block. :-)) P.S. Doesn't this belong in Rivalries?
