  1. Oh, I'm thinking of 20+ years of bloopers - I still hold my breath whenever the Cubs get into a rundown. Saw too many balls get thrown away, runners scoring, bad times.
  2. lol, never heard him called that. just clicked his gameday name to check... that picture of him is eerily favre-like :D Who looks like Favre - mind you, you guys are the only ones keeping me up to speed on what's going on right now..
  3. I wouldn't be surprised - somedays he's more fun than Harry was. It's so much nicer to see the Cubs be on the other end of poor fielding.
  4. Perhaps he should play for the Rockies? Then he could be consistently a Cub killer in a good way ... albeit for the other team.
  5. I'm flying blind here - gameday and audio are crapping out on my connection. Given that I'm kind of roughing it, TV is not an option either. Vital stats pls? And didn't the Cardinals lose to the Dodgers tonight? I thought I heard that on the D'Backs game I had on the radio in the car.
  6. Any chance Wade could try the other end of the battery? He's not giving the team much of a ROI on the mound.
  7. And yet, as ballplayers, they'll net eleventy billion times this entire board's lifetime salaries. Life is so not fair.
  8. I'm curious to find Z's.
  9. Yeah, it's good to see the Cubs playing solid baseball. I suppose that posting when they're doing well probably makes a bandwaggoner out of me, but after 20 years, I think I've paid my dues. :-)
  10. In the words of Slappy the Squirrel, now that's comedy! :D
  11. Santana is making 12M, Nathan is making 5M. 12+5<<<<< Santanas salaring in the FA market. Santana via trade... mmm. I wonder if that would drive Z's asking price into the realm of reasonableness, in that he wouldn't be the only rooster in the henhouse?
  12. One Cub team stat that could have been better today: runners LOB. I don't care what the score is - leaving double digits on base is not a good thing. I know, I'm a spoil sport. But you can always improve your game, and besides, after 20+ years of witnessing Cub baseball, I know anything can happen, and likely will. So, gotta get those guys on, over, and in - runs don't always come in abundance like today.
  13. Apologies if this has been asked before - how much do you think Z will hold up the front office for?
  14. Sounds like she's seen more games than I have. For the first time in over 20 years, I'm just not getting into it much. I check the box scores a few times during the week and that's it.
  15. Hey all long time no see. :) I'm at a library terminal with only a half hour left. I could be watching the game, but I locked myself out of my condo. Good times. Hope everyone is well! :) BTW, are the McDonald's ads on the non-premium board for the benefit of Mark Prior and Kerry Wood? *ducks*
  16. I heard he had a knife! I heard it was a bazooka and a bottle of cherry schnaps!! You're both wrong - it was a slingshot and a bottle of MadDog 20/20. And he missed with both by a mile.
  17. If this discussion continues, please just don't use the word "dude". It reminds me automatically of Baker, and that makes me a sad panda. Just thought I'd try an albeit poor attempt at levity in this thread.
  18. As to Seattle, with the exception of Ichiro's 2001 year, the rest of the lineup could be any mix whatsoever on any given day. About a week or so ago I called the Matt Murton mushroom treatment, but I don't remember which thread.
  19. Off topic: I love your sig! If the 2007 Cubs are as bad as the 2006 Cubs, I'm counting on Sweet Lou to make it entertaining, at least.
  20. yeah, but he's much more patient. I do like Brady---he's gritty and comes to play every day. His defense looked to me to be very good. But as the SLG indicates, he's a singles hitter Who cares??? If a guy can get on base, that's 90% of the battle. There's enough power in the lineup from the corner IF, C, and the projected LF. Honestly, when are people going to stop falling in love with bashers who K more than they reach base? :steps off soapbox: Because Brady Clark bashes and K's more than he reaches base? An OBP near .350 takes a fair bit of sting out of that. But granted he's not worth the $$ Hendry shelled out for Pierre. You missed the point. Clark doesn't bash and he doesn't K a lot. Sorry, sarcasm is lost on me this week, for some reason.
  21. Do you have stats for number of pitches thrown per season during that era? Pitches per plate appearance have increased pretty dramatically since then. it sure doesnt sound like that is the case according to this quote from Ferguson Jenkins: "I hear in the clubhouse all the time about a pitcher having a twinge, and they go on the disabled list. I would have never won any ballgames if I would have missed a start with a twinge. "Pitchers are definitely protected," added Jenkins. "I used to warm up and throw 100 pitches in the bullpen and then throw 150 pitches in the game. I would throw nine innings, which they usually won't let these young men do right now." link: http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/news/article.jsp?ymd=20060709&content_id=1549169&vkey=allstar2006&fext=.jsp What was the average velocity that pitchers threw back in the day?

  23. Exactly. How much of Dempster's suckage occurred because he didn't see enough work to close games to begin with? Same deal with Eddie Guardado when he was with the Mariners.
  24. Anyone else here the slightest bit concerned that Piniella noses Murt to the bench at the smallest sign, or suspicion of, struggling at the plate? I don't think Piniella has mentioned Murton once as an eligible player on the team, let alone a starter. I predict mushroom treatment of Murton to be NSBB's first big gripe about Piniella's game-time management.
