  1. No problem. We'll just bring up a couple more kids from the minors, eh? Or keep within striking distance before snagging a real captain for the OF via trade.
  2. Okay - two runs. Erase them, boys.
  3. Why do the big acquisitions become mortal or even sucky once they become Cubs? Meanwhile, the brutal 2nd inning record continues.
  4. Coughlin is really not impressive.
  5. Off topic: how cool is it that the Bears and Packers are playing on Thanksgiving next season?
  6. So are you going to follow this game here? :-) It's pretty bad when someone you introduced a site to is more popular on it than you are. OTOH, I've been MIA for a few years.
  7. My FB post: "It WAS a gorgeous day -- perfect weather, listening to the Cubs beating the Padres. And then Joe Maddon put in that hirsute douchebag, Schlitter (the nicknames make up themselves), who promptly serves up a 3-run HR to put SD over Chicago Cubs and keep them there. *SIGH*" Unfortunately I'm not into hockey, so a gin and tonic will have to suffice.
  8. The Cubs had two of those just a couple of games earlier.
  9. My Gameday froze before Schlitter served up the homer. He already had an ERA of 8. When I checked the roster page on cubs.com, it had shot up to 18. I hope the crazy early season stat doesn't stay near that high!
  10. Get rid of the ivy. Shut your mouth! :-) I was thinking about the game from way back, where the ball in the ivy went for extra bases or an inside the park HR. In that case, I think the OF threw up his hands, but the ball bounced out, which was why he was toast.
  11. Pitchers are largely unsuccessful as a species when forced to get 4 strikes to get an out. Perhaps Schlitter should be clean shaven. Call it a reverse Samson effect: he'd maybe turn into a good pitcher.
  12. Bryant made contact at his last AB, though, right? And he sounds like he's playing solid at 3B. If he settles down, good things will happen. Fowler, OTOH, gives me little heart attacks.
  13. I wonder how well they can hear up there. I'd be terrified to do it unless I could see someone conducting me from the pipe organ, and then only if I were wearing earplugs. You... wonder if they can hear the organ, from inside the park? Why would you wonder that? I'm not a physicist, but sound travels slower than sight, and music especially does funny things in big spaces.
  14. That must be the eventyeth blown call by the umpiring crew this game. I blame the Cardinals.
  15. Ivy rule double -- only at Wrigley. Who was it a zillion games ago who didn't go after the ball and it went for extra bases, or even an in the park HR?
  16. I wonder how well they can hear up there. I'd be terrified to do it unless I could see someone conducting me from the pipe organ, and then only if I were wearing earplugs.
  17. The crowd sounded pretty pissed. The 7th inning singer kinda sucked too.
  18. schlitter always throws 95 He ought to be thrown back to the minors. Speaking of throwing -- bye Joe. EEK!
  19. Come on guys, get out of this inning without any damage.
  20. Gyorko pronounced "jerko." Makes me smile. :D
  21. Still, you hate when people screw up gifts.
