  1. yeah, but he's much more patient. I do like Brady---he's gritty and comes to play every day. His defense looked to me to be very good. But as the SLG indicates, he's a singles hitter Who cares??? If a guy can get on base, that's 90% of the battle. There's enough power in the lineup from the corner IF, C, and the projected LF. Honestly, when are people going to stop falling in love with bashers who K more than they reach base? :steps off soapbox:
  2. I assume you mean what it would cost to resign Prior and Wood for 2008 if they were to somehow revert to 2003 form. . . . But if those guys hit the top of their range this season, and the Cubs tried to keep them, I think it would cost the Cubs something like $51-55 million to keep Zambrano, Prior and Wood for 2008. But of course, that's not going to happen. Yep, that's what I meant. Hey, being a Cub fan, I figure, you alternate between outlandish dreams and dogging cynicism. It's a sure-fire way to acquire depression. As for your post-fantasy land speculation, the club could see some serious $$ from a good club - lousy clubs have done well financially. Plus there are the new seats in LF, that should account for more $$. Who knows.
  3. They have cherry vanilla... It's hard as heck to get a 2L bottle of Coke with lime lately, which stinks! My b/f loves the stuff, but he won't let me get the cans (only way we can seem to find lime Coke), because it's unnecessarily expensive.
  4. I can't vote really on this one. Fake if it's my tree; real if it's someone else's (cleanup is a bear). Three cats kind of put the kibosh on trees, though, especially since it's just the two of us and we're not anticipating doing any entertaining for Christmas. (I thought you meant something not trees, too!)
  5. I have this hope that Dusty messed up both Prior and Wood, and maybe Larry Rothschild is a decent PC after all, and Piniella actually lets him do his job. I'd like to see Wood back in the rotation by the second half, in 2003 form or better. That would make me smile, but cringe too (pitching $$ for next season).
  6. I thought it was "He GAWN"... but give it a few years.
  7. I'm not sure that I would go so far as to say that I wouldn't mind TLR as a Cub manager someday (although he does now possess two WS rings as manager in two different ball clubs), but I respect him. True Renaissance man: attorney, baseball man, animal activist (but not in the PETA sense), and theatre person. BUT, TLR still has a tendency to whine overly much during the games themselves.
  8. That's one of the big reasons I grew to despise Baylor as the Cubs' manager. Lieber was worked to death in 2002, and because of the TJS, there was no way the Cubs had the $$ to do that second guaranteed year. The other reason (besides just being a crummy manager) was Baylor trying to make Grace into a pull hitter. Fourth in the lineup??? And then Grace screwed up his shoulder, and MacPhail let him go because the Cubs had to keep the cash cow in Sammy, for which he was partly justified because Grace had a pretty bad year.
  9. Adam Dunn? (Yeah, right.) Or Freel. =P~ If Hollandsworth were to come back, though, I'd ask the doctors to check for a blockage in Jimbo's brain this time. OTOH, a LH bat is sorely needed in the Cubs lineup. But I fear Lou would give Holly playing time over Murton every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
  10. There are actually two positions left. CF and SS. Don't forget 2B... Mark DeRosa? Yeah, 2B is still a hole. Well, Soriano once played 2B, OTOH, he was a butcher at 2B, iirc.
  11. Remember that 13 pitch CG that only lasted about 7 minutes? That man wasted no time on the mound. I saw Liebs 11 rows in from the 3B line at Safeco back in 2002 - 90 odd pitches, CG, 5-1 result. The only Mariner who had any chance that afternoon was Olerud. That was one gem of a game - beautiful day, Sammy hit a 3-run blast into the opposite field stands. I thought I remembered you being a pretty big Liebs fan. Yeah. Although he does have a lousy 2nd half rep. When the Cubs got Maddux back in 2004, I thought it was sad that the Cubs didn't have Lieber around, given Maddux' (at that time) lackluster 1st half and good 2nd half tendencies.
  12. *Digging for a gold star* Darn, can't find it. Sorry! :P (Just a joke, Dude.)
  13. If you want something done... ;-) Latest Fox Sports babbles
  14. Okay, I figured out IBL, but the rest of these acronyms are leaving me clueless!
  15. Whew! Off topic: what possessed Bochy to go up the coast to manage?

  17. And that is why he had the TJS. And THAT is why the Cubs didn't offer him the second guaranteed year, so off to the Yanks he went. Sad situation all around, but it made sense at the time.
  18. Pitch economy and good K/BB ratio: that's been a lost art in the Cubs' rotation for the past couple of years. At 37 by the first week of next regular season, I see Liebs and Lilly being about interchangeable as the 2nd and 3rd man in the current rotation. Ironic thing is, if the Cubs spent money back in 2002 like they have this offseason, I don't think Lieber would have left the organization.
  19. What in the heck is going on???
  20. There are actually two positions left. CF and SS. Don't forget 2B... Mark DeRosa?
  21. Wow. You're not biased or anything. I mean, it's not like he won a World Series. I don't recall them sniffing the playoffs last year, though?
  22. Simple procedure performed thousands of times a day. The only change will be less doughnuts. Hopefully you're correct on the better nutrition. It's seemed to me that Hendry has gained a fair bit of weight particularly over the past two years, and if he's been (as one report had it) living off coffee and getting zero sleep during the Winter Meetings, he got off pretty easy with angio. This is a Clinton-type heart warning. I hope Hendry got the message and takes the opportunity to make some lifestyle changes. (Heck, I could stand eating less crap myself!) As to your actual question, I'd agree with DePo as a good GM.
  23. Good. I would have hated to start an underground bonus fund to have Z earhole him but good. I kid, I kid... but I sure would hate for the Cubs to have to face Bonds oodles of times during the season. Stay in the West, Barroids.
  24. Not to mention they can't play any of those three in center because of Slappy. Right. And they're looking at Luis Gonzalez. He is a bottom 5 GM in the majors imo. Let's see.... The Dodgers got Schmidt and Wolf The Cubs got Lilly and might get Meche You forgot Juan Pierre. Nomar, Part 2? I'm calling it, but I hope I'm wrong.
