  1. Juniper bushes or no, it's their payroll crap that kills me.
  2. I'm disgusted by the renovations. Not only will the view of the neighborhood be hampered (seats in the lower deck) but taking the bushes out from centerfield for a restaurant?? Stoney said it best earlier this year "enjoy the view as much as you can this year, it will never be the same" Don't give me the BS that the extra seats will mean more payroll. They'll make plenty of money when they raise ticket prices (again) and add more advertisements to wrigley. MacPhail is a joke I agree, it's a joke. I think the Wrigley atmosphere is what keeps going to a baseball game great, despite where the Cubs are in the standings. If you aren't gonna field a winner, at least keep Wrigley as it is, and don't try to feed us these lies that you are going to increase payroll. Even if you do, it's not as if the Cubs management will make the right personnel decisions.
  3. OWN CHARLES GIPSON! That play tonight was pretty odd. And if I'm not mistaken, they caught him leaning back in 03 when he was on the Yankees. Yeah it was more fun then, but it was nice to see them actually execute for once.
  4. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2173336 Go get him, Jim...whenver the rules let you, I mean.
  5. NOT HIS AWESOME GOLD CHAINS!!!
  6. Anybody have the dates for the different steps of Free agency? I'm just curious what Hendry's priorities are. Is it getting a SS or getting a leadoff hitter. I fear that he thinks he can get both if he nabs Furcal. I'm hoping he tries to get an OF who can lead off, then gets Nomar for short. Even if Nomar pulls down an .800 OPS, we'd be doing a lot better than league average, and he is almost there now.
  7. Outside of Walker, Nomar, Cedeno and Neifi!, what are some outside options for 2B? Are there any intriguing possibilities?
  8. Todd makes the most sense. He puts up good numbers, and most importantly, he's cheap. Please bring him back, Jim.
  9. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=nen Pretty good read.
  10. Uhh, I don't think Jim Frey has a job right now? I think you left him off the list... :D
  11. He makes a sweet back-up for Barrett in MVP 2005...that should translate pretty well to real life, no?
  12. Leave it in.
  13. My problems lie more with the fact that today Macias led off. And Neifi! batted second. Sweet table setters. If one of has to be in the lineup, thats fine, but bat him 8th. But, and this goes to JH as well, we gotta do somethng about this lineup! Today's lineup had Macias, Neifi! and Patterson. I have a better chance of getting attacked by a shark on the streets of El Paso then those guys getting on base.
  14. Last year, they could cling to the "Back-to-back winning seasons" line. This year? Dusty's got nothing to hide behind. In other words, two years of Macias and Neifi! didn't bring any playoff games to Wrigley, so Dusty should somehow realize that they suck. Please realize they suck, Dusty.
  15. Please resign Nomar. PLEASE. Otherwise, it will end up like a typical Cubs story. They get Nomar for 1 1/2 years, overpay him to be injured, then let him go. He goes and signs somewhere for like 4 mil, goes back to being Nomar, and the Cubs are left with Furcal, who hits .264, with a .305 OBP, but steals 30 bases. Sweet. :(
  16. Macias and Neifi! at the top of the lineup?! Good lord.
  17. Someting to do with a Goat, a Black Cat, a Steve Garvey and a Will Clark. Or the fact that Farnsworth has Leo Mazzone as his pitching coach now. Yeah...but that's boring  He was pitching just about as well in Detroit, so you can't use Leo to explain all his success. I think the fact of the matter is simple and I outlined it last year, over this winter and at the time of the trade. Farnsworth cannot handle a heavy workload. He puts too much effort into his delivery and his recovery time is too long. Detroit was careful early in the season not to overwork him and he's had a successful year. Huh. Who knew? And then traded him when his value was at its highest...where did they get that idea, Tim? :D

  19. well...JP uses stats/probability to pick a player. it isn't a full proof method, but the likelihood of him picking a solid player over the traditional scout method is appreciably greater. it may take time before we see it, but it will happen given enough time. I hear ya...and I agree, it is a better method of trying to build a team. It's just that Shea Hillenbrand has walked 25 times this year in 550+ ABs: sounds like a Hendry player to me. I think the stats stuff is great, it is foolish to think that GMs still ignore stuff that could give them an advantage. But just because GMs acknowledge these "newer" statistics, or try to use them to their advantage, does not gurantee success. The Rockies are a pretty good example, course the thin air makes that necessary I guess :?
  20. Im not really sold on JP yet. I realize he hasn't been working with the budget that Hendry has, but Corey Koskie and Shea Hillenbrand are pretty lousy signings if you ask me.
  21. Someting to do with a Goat, a Black Cat, a Steve Garvey and a Will Clark.
  22. Actually, this team could thrive with Walker at leadoff. Depending on who they get in the OF, they could also live with Hairston in that role. The only true need they have is one good bat in the OF. After that they have lots of options to mix and match. It would be so sweet to have Lofton and Walker batting 1-2, or even Murton batting second. Since Lofton took off, the Dusty has refused to put table setters at the top of the order. But Lofton is a Dusty guy that actually has some skills.
  23. More stuff on Hunter: http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/trading-torii/
  24. I still think Hendry will sign Kenny Lofton to a 1-year incentive-laden deal to play CF and lead-off. That will give Felix Pie another season in the minors - perhaps he'll be a 2nd half call-up. With the Lofton signing, I also think Hendry will keep Hairston as a utility player, who can start in CF against tough lefties. I think many in the Cubs brass still believe that for 2006 Lofton will come very close to duplicating his .388 OBP from this year and his .381 OBP in the 2nd half of 2003. Supposedly, with the exception of Sosa and Alou, his teammates loved him in 2003. HOORAY!!!!!!
