  1. Be specific about which idiot on the score is talking. Most are useless, self serving fools that have no knowledge at all. So, which idiot are you referring to? The only guys on the score that have been critical of ARam have been Boers and Bernstein, who rip on his "lack of hustle", or his "Dominican Bat Flip". Personally, I'm sick of the Chicago media trying to find a scapegoat out of nothing. Ramirez was far and away our second best player, and had he not been hurt would very possibly hit more HR's and RBI's than Lee. The Cubs won't be trading ARam because of "antics". He doesn't mouth off to the press, he doesn't argue on the field. There's no reason to deal him. If they do, they are absolute fools. After all the abysmal third basemen that the Cubs have had, there should be almost no reason on earth to trade him. I agree, if he had played the full season, he would have put up MVP numbers. There are no antics.
  2. Seriously. Dawson's Creek babes have nothing on lookers like Zambrano or Ohman.
  3. They have the DH and people still like them. Fools.
  4. I wish I could still ask the question of why Neifi! batted 2nd for the Cubs today... Oh well. I hope I never have to ask that question again.
  5. In 2000, Antonio Alfonseca was 45/49 in save opportunites. His peripherals indicated that he wasn't as good as his save numbers indicated. Those peripherals proved to be predictive. In 2001, he was 28/44 and in 2002 he as 19/28. While I hope Dempster is as good as his 33/35 might lead some to believe, there is enough reason to be concerned. Just out of curiosity (this is a dead-horse argument), which of Dempster's peripherals worry you? His walks. Yeah they trouble me as well. But his K rate helps to negate some of my worries about his control. I also like that he only allowed 1 HR in relief, getting lots of groundball outs. But, being a Cubs fan, I'm worried too.
  6. Guess the Yankees roster next year. I hate the Yankees, and would love to see all hell break loose with that team. But it would take some unique trades and interesting signings, in a weak free agent year, to really change it up. They have some glaring holes, and have already committed a ridiculous amount of geld to the aging core. Any ideas? Jeter for Beltran? A-Rod for Manny? Bubba Crosby for Adam Hyzdu? Ruben Sierra for Ramon Martinez?

  8. Ohhh Soup Campbell!
  9. It is a good point you make, the Cubs have no one of real value to trade for Abreu. But what pitching do we have that would cause the Yanks to give up A-Rod? Kerry Wood. NY has the money to gamble on him. Do you think he would waive his no-trade clause for NY? I mean if that trade could be done, as much as I hate A-rod, I think you do it.

  11. So people rippin' apart Farnsy makes you a little annoyed huh? A little bit, especially since we have no middle relief and traded him away for nothing. Dude, Roberto Novoa?  Yeah, you should always be able to get something for guys with Farnsworth, even if their greatest talent is potential. Because when/if Kyle is on, he is unhittable. Another sweet desperation move by the Chubbs.
  12. He did have a helluva year. But that was also a serious collapse. Reminded me of when Mitch Williams gave up a grand slam in '89 at the Astrodome. But yeah, Farnsworth had a great year, and it would have been nice to have a reliever with those numbers in our pen this year.
  13. I'm pulling for the Stros because I like Biggio.

  15. Not that I love him, but Alou would have been nice this past year in the OF for us. Of course, Arte Lange would have looked pretty nice out there, so I suppose that's not saying much.
  16. I suppose it could end up being Austin Kearns as the beat writers have indicated that Hendry likes him. If you are registered, there is an article about the Reds in the Dayton Daily News, where the columnist suggests that Kearns be traded to the Cubs and Wily Mo Pena to the Nationals for young pitchers. Hoops They Cubs should just take both of them. :D Yeah enough of this nibbling, let's go for the kill for once!
  17. Rick Wrona and Marvell Wynne?
  18. Why 2B and not SS? I think Hall's going to regress quite a bit from this year's numbers, but he wouldn't be a terrible SS option if he could keep his walk rate from this year. You could put him at SS, that's a good point. I wasn't sure about his defense there, though I know he has a rocket arm. His walk rate will probably go down, but if he had a season like he did this year, which included 18 steals in 24 tries, I would be thrilled to have him on the Cubs, regardless of the position. If you put him at short, who would you go after for 2B?
  19. I would like the Cubs to get Bill Hall for 2B.
  20. I think not signing Pedro was a mistake. I believe their disagreement was over a 4th year. In my opinion, I would have rather signed Pedro for four than Varitek for four. Or Renteria for 10m a year. Pedro might not have allowed them to beat the WSox, but it couldn't have hurt.
  21. I think Furcal loses some of his value though when he is moved to 2B. I'm sure his defense would be fine, but there are some much better hitters at 2B than at short, so I doubt he would command 8-12 if he was gonna play 2B. But he is not a better hitter than Kent, Utley, Giles, Walker, maybe not even Grudz. He would still be a good player, sure, but would just be severly overpaid. But I agree, it's good news, at least to me.
  22. Why cause none of them could win in the playoffs? I kid I kid, that truly would be a spectacular outfield. Very non-Cubs/Dusty too, which is of course a serious plus.
  23. This board does rule, fwiw, ESPECIALLY in the offseason! :)
  24. I wanted the Cubs to try and get him a few years ago when the Angels were trying to trade him. Instead they signed a Dusty guy (Estes) with terrible splits outside of Pac Bell. To me Washburn is the type of guy who will be severly overpaid, a la Eric Milton. He doesn't strike many guys out (94ks in 177 innings), gets more flyballs than ground balls and has an oba of .274. I don't think he's a terrible pitcher, but I do think he will get too much money. I think Williams could do a better job over the course of a full season, for example. I realize we have a good deal of moeny to spend, but if we could save a few here and there, we could maybe land some higher impact players.
