  1. I'm pretty sure Lieber wasn't a Cub until 1999. Wood, Trachsel, Tapani, Gonzalez, and Clark were generally the starting five in 1998, right? I think he was thinking of '01? I get those two years confused myself all the time.
  2. Damon's OPS is .845 right now, which is higher than anyone in the Cubs outfield. I don't think it would be the dumbest idea to sign him and put him in a corner spot, then have him leadoff. A lineup of: Damon Walker/Hairston Lee Ramirez RF Barrett SS could be pretty nasty. Of course if it's Hollandsworth and NEIFI! in those spots, then it would still need some work.
  3. Hell yeah! Plus it'd help out next year's team too!
  4. I knock Sammy all the time...but WHY DID WE TRADE HIM FOR A BENCH PLAYER?! We are basically paying 18 million (or whatever it is) to play JOSE MACIAS?!!!   ](*,) ](*,)
  5. Firing Dusty will help, but it will not solve the organization's total lack of interest in OBP. That's how Neifi! and Macias (and formerly Enrique Wilson) had jobs on the team. Unless Hendry can grab some offense before the deadline or before next season and make a real bench/bullpen, I think he should be history too. There's too much talent on this team/in the orgnazation right now to be wasting these years. One question that I have: Does Hendry have a problem with "League Average" production? We have 4 positons (Barrett, Ramirez, Lee, Walker) with above average production, and 4 positions (Patterson, Burnitz, Neifi! and Hollandsworth/Dubois) of below average production. I'm kinda busy right now, but I think it would be very interesting to see how many more runs we would have scored if we could get to league average in those positions. We don't need all-stars at every position with this staff, we just need a more consistent offense.
  6. I feel like we're the 90s Cubs playing the 90s Braves.
  7. I'm less and less inclined to believe this aspect of the Baker mythos. The second part, I've got no qualms with. I agree. Baker's success in SF was largely due to good teams centered around the best player in the game, Bonds. Baker has no idea how to create a lineup, which these past few days have demonstrated. I say we march on the Tribune towers, asking for Hendry and Baker. They both haven't a clue.
  8. These are the Cubs. They have sucked for quite a while now.
  9. Anyone else notice that the Astros are now only a game and half behind the Cubs? I had sort of written them off earlier in th season, but here they are. Their pitching staff is good. The bullpen, outside of Lidge, needs work. I fear that they could make a second half surge just like last year. At the very least, it appears there is another competitor for trades. I hope to god they don't steal Dunn from us
  10. BJ Ryan would be awesome! Btw, when was the last time the Cubs signed a dominant closer? Was it Rojas? or does he not qualify? I was just curious, because it would be nice to have a closer for like a 5 year stretch, instead of having to answer the question differently every season.
  11. Please explain to me why you support this guy. Honestly, I want to know. I used to like Dusty's folksy almost voodoo approach. But now, I can't stand it. Please make a case for why he is a good manager. Why did Macias ever bat tonight? Why did Remmy pitch against two lefties when we have two LOOGYs on the team? Please convince me! I want to believe!
  12. I think this is the year Kearns stays healthy. I also noticed Andruw Jones hangs around till the later rounds, and a few projections have him putting up some pretty impressive numbers.
  13. I think ESPN has it 105-101...WOOOT BULLS!! Wow, these guys keep impressing me!
  14. I'm trying to join, lots of applicants today though.
