  1. Sounds sincere to me. He's content on turning it around. I hope this signing works out well. He sat on his own mother? I'm actually surprised to hear she's doing well!
  2. Very impressed with the Illini. I think this team could gel even further and become one of the elite teams in college bball this year, a possible 1 or 2 seed. I wish Holy Cross would stop teasing me. At least Bucknell is representing the Patriot league with some umph.
  3. What do you think of the Pontoon signing? I think it's pretty PHAT. Pretty Hot and Tempting eh? I might go as far as mouth watering! Seriously though, it isn't a bad pickup, as long as Reyes gets a chance to play. Do they try to deal Marquis so that they aren't SO TAGUCHI (oh man that was gold, gold!) in the outfield?[/img]
  4. What do you think of the Pontoon signing?
  5. Yes, the did, and Winn is clearly the better player right now. Which means....Finley is the league's MOST expensive bench player at $7 million. Nonetheless, why did Sabean go after Finley, when Rickey Henderson was still available? At this stage, I would clearly take Rickey Henderson available? What Sabean couldn't convince Devon White, Goodwin and Goodwin (Tom and Curtis) to come play for the Giants? Was the local AARP out for lunch, and Sabean wasn't patient enough? Anybody who EVER consider Sabean a "genius" is borderline nutso. "Cocaine" Otis Nixon should be still around right? I mean if Hendry doesn't want him for RF.
  6. Didn't they resign Randy Winn too? :-k
  7. I understand that angle and it makes a lot of sense, and frankly, I think that is what they'll do, if they trade him at all. However I also wouldn't be surprised to see them engage in a small rebuilding process. And it can't hurt to ask, 'cause man, Manny's offense could really help this team: Pierre Hairston Lee Manny Aram Jones Barrett Cedeno I'd be happ...ier.
  8. If we where talking after the world series I would agree but now that Hendry has seen all his chances to make a splash wash up he might be interested. Millwood Manny Miggy Weaver Are the only hopes I have right now of Hendry being able to make this years squad any better to compete with the Cards. Yeah and now that the Cards got the Pontoon boat...they've replaced Ray King's fat.
  9. The BoSox lose out on Damon and need a CF. Manny also wants to be traded. Since we apparently are in a "win-now" mode, lets trade the farm! Murton, Patterson, Walker and Williams for Manny. If they want Pie instead of one of the names, let em have him. The Cubs have to acquire Manny or Tejada for me to give JH anything less than a passing grade for the offseason.
  10. I could buy Jones having a down year because of external factors, these things happen. However, there's no discernable difference in production between the rest of his career and '05. He was performing the same as he always was. Not to nitpick a generally good post, but Jones' 2005 numbers were significantly below his career averages pretty well across the board, aside from XBH. His OPS was about 30 points below his career norm. His 2004 OPS was worse than his 2005. So he's had 2 horrible years in a row. How is this explained? The Metrodome. He's played his entire career in the Metrodome. Well damn, then this really is a bad signing, huh? Just for kicks, here is Jones' 3-year day game splits: .245 .292 .390 .682 Pretty sweet, huh? :puke: Well good thing that 8-8-88 happened or this guy would be even worse!

  13. What the f uck is your problem? Did you read one god damn paragraph? I don't care what the hell happens to me at this forum, my thread or my post. I don't appreciate this comment, read before replying. This thread shouldn't be locked, this post should be deleted. Why didn't you compare Burnitz vs. Jones? Burnitz vs. Jones comparison the past 3 years: Burnitz's stats last 3 years: .274 .344 .581 .925 .283 .356 .559 .915 .258 .322 .435 .757 Jones: .304 .333 .464 .797 .254 .315 .427 .742 .249 .319 .438 .757 Which one looks better to you? Pretty obvious. Jones might get better late in the game, but .217 with RISP and 2 outs? Or .256 with runners on base? That's not good at all. And who cares if he is a big energy guy if he's going to post an OBP in the Neifi range. I stick by my statement. Even if he is a terrible option, if he hits a lot of HRs, and we have solid pitching, we can win the WS. Look across town...Or if they have a really good defense, perhaps with a front four that really gets to the QB... Last year we were 2nd in the NL in homeruns. A lot of good that did us. And Jones will probably give you the same amount of homeruns Corey Patterson would give you in a given year. Solid pitching is a different story. I'm just saying it's not like we are only playing with 8 people on defense and an automatic out every nine. The homotrailertrash White Sox one the world series with an embarrassing team. I wish JH would not have tried to emulate their My-trailer-is-in-the-path-of-every-tornado ways, but he did. Hopefully we get some luck. I'm not very optimistic, but I'll still pray for the team.

  15. Woah, woah, woah... I think JJ sucks. The Cubs 06 are just highly underrated on here right now. I agree that Jones sucks, and I also agree that people are being ridiculously pessimistic. I am not a blue Kool-aid drinker, but a lot of people here are reminding me of lemmings right now. Four keys for the Cubs in 06: 1) Prior pitches atleast 180 innings 2) DLee has a .950ish OPS 3) Demp is still a solid closer. 4) They keep Walker If those 3 things happen the Cubs will be very very good. If all those thing don't happen? They will still be pretty solid. Despite all the negativity, and believe me, I'm not happy at all with this signing, you are probably right. The production from the position players should be on par or better with last year (with Lee slipping, but the outfield picking up some slack), and if the pitching comes together, hopefully the restocked bullpen will pay off, this could be a decent team. But its success rests on a lot of factors which have yet to go the Chubbs way in the past few years. Man, it takes a CARDSFAN to give you this kind of insight!
  16. Write what you want, my man. Don't let the HPC get you down!
  17. I don't see anything wrong with someone offering a positive spin on Jones. You don't have to buy what someone is selling. No locky. We need someone to pull us off the edge!
  18. Choi Career OBP .349 Jones Career OBP .327 It seems to me that many people look at batting average as the best indicator of hitting ability...when in fact it's really completely useless. Like most statistical analysis, it depends on the sample size.
  19. Well I'm sure Gene "OBP" Clines will take care of him, like he did with (K)orey. Oh wait. That was in that other reality.
  20. I feel bad for Favre. He made some crappy players into all stars.
  21. And your plan to get tejada is... I do agree we need another superstar to be considered a realistic contender. If we just add more expensive but non-difference-making players like Eyre/Howry/Jones then suckage is all but certain. Uh, we already signed a superstar. His name is John Mabry.
  22. Anybody read 9 innings? I thought that was pretty good.
