  1. Kent would be great. Pierre Murton Lee Ramirez Kent Jones Barret Ron Ce I would be happy with that lineup.
  2. Eh is crazyrumor guy. I think he just read the post in the other thread about Wilson being icing on the offseason.
  3. I'd say...the Cubs sign Preston Wilson, for shoots and grins. Can we trade Murton for Juan Enco yet?
  4. I would imagine that Dunn stays in Cincy, probably at 1B. Cincy, FWIW, could have a very good offense.
  5. BUZZKILL~!
  6. No I agree with you here. Soriano+Prior is a better situation than Prior and Jeff Pico, or whomever they were thinking of replacing him with. I think Soriano is a bit undervalued. Yeah he doesn't walk much and strikes out a ton, but consistenly slugs around .500. That's a lot of power from a 2B. If we are going to trade Walker, why not get someone with some pop, since we have pretty much given up the OBP thing this year. Again. It all depends on where Soriano's batting in the order. Same goes for Walker. Since Soriano has nearly hit 40 homers in a couple of season, I don't think Dusty will bat him 1st or 2nd, but will put him in a power spot. With this given order, most likely 5th. Then we can start hoping for the .300 seasns from Pierre, Jones and Soriano. Stranger things have happened, but that would be a pretty solid offense, considering the organizational outlook we are dealing with.

  8. If we got Soriano..that's a bunch of Ks between him and Jones. Bad Ks too, the no-walK kind of k.
  9. agree Haha, and imagine all the fangirls if Zito were to become a Cub. Wrigley would turn into 90% 14 year old girls. Okay...l'm on board... Kidding, kidding.
  10. I'm torn because I think Prior will be an awesome pitcher in his career. However the addition of Tejada could be a real boost to the offense and Bedard could turn into a solid pitcher himself. Ugh.
  11. I will only be happy with this trade if a) Prior asked for it, b) something is wrong with Prior. Other than those two things, I think we should keep him and try our luck with Cedeno.
  12. Whoops. I forgot to include the Derrek Lee trade. Derrek Lee was on the trade block all through the 2003 season and no one wanted him. Hendry made out well on that deal. Lee had only a slight edge in OPS over Choi in 2004, though Choi was strictly platooned. I think the Lee/Choi trade could have still gone down with a Tejada signing. They also could have went with one or the other of Grudz or Walker at 2nd. The real non move would have been the non signing of Maddux. Zambrano, Prior, Wood, Clement and Cruz would have been alright for me. This is why, just for like a season, it would be nice to have the Boston/NY mentality for players: Get what you need even if you have to overpay. I wouldn't mind overpaying for crap like Howry and Eyre (I know they aren't crap) if we would just overpay once and a while on a player like Vlad or Beltran or Tejada a few years ago. We always are overpaying for the Toyotas, which even with the extra dough thrown at them, still perform like Toyotas. Can we please overpay for a Porsche? Just once?
  13. They couldn't afford him in 2003 because of the ridiculous contract MacPhail gave to Sosa. Actually, they could afford him. He was a free agent at the end of the '03 season. Cubs management spent money on Grudz, Walker, Hawkins and Maddux to name a few. He also added Nomar at the trade deadline. By the way, Tejada made 7m in 2004 with that shiny, new deal. Affordable? Absolutely. Alex Gonzalez got 5.5m in 2004. Hendry was able to move Hundley and his 6m contract the previous year, so thinking there was no way they could move the guy who botched the ground ball in the NL Championship series is not reasonable. Alex had a lot more value than Hundley did. You can take it a couple steps farther and say that had the Cubs not traded Choi for Lee, they would have been able to afford both Gonzo and Tejada if Alex proved impossible to move, or, Hendry could have gone to the Trib to authorize extra money for Tejada instead of for Maddux. Given Gonzo's NLCS error, and Tejada's rep, it might have been an easier conversation than adding a $9m 5th starter. There were tons of ways Hendry could have added Tejada THe NLCS error, IMO, should have cost Kgonz his spot on the team, just like the Pedro fiasco cost Grady Little his job in Boston. It's amazing that people forget about that botched play. THat should have been enough to trade him for garbage and eat 4mil of his salary, then sign Tejada.
  14. I'm hoping this info that Hendry has on Prior is something that makes this trade make sense. Otherwise it is very near sighted.
  15. I think it's quite foolish to acquire guys with the intent of moving them later for something else. That is always brought up to justify some weird moves, and rarely works out for the best. Prior for Tejada and Bedard would not be buying low, and I doubt they could get any better prospects for Prior next year than they could get for Tejada this year. They could be keeping Bedard and adding tons of arms. It's also an enormous risk, because Prior's value is in the expectations for the next 10 years of his career. But any one of those years could be a stinker, so you're gambling that 2006 isn't a stinker. He would also be closer to free agency then, which will decrease his value. And as goofy as it sounds, when multiple teams look to trade a guy within a year or so, that also weighs on his perceived value. If they are going to trade Tejada, they might as well bite the bullet now, get the best prospects possible, and build a team that will compete in 2008-2010. 2006 and 2007 are hopeless regardless of who they trade him for. This is a great point. They have no chance this year against the AL East. They won't be able to sign enough free agents to be able to compete with that division in the coming years either unless they have a core of cheap talented players instead of folks like Geronimo Gil.
  16. I was wondering that myself, especially the pitching part. If they get Tejada, I wouldn't mind seeing what Walker or Cedeno could get as far as a pitcher in that situation. They could also sign Weaver I guess too, though I don't think they can afford him after the Millwood contract.
  17. 1892 blew my mind. 36-12, 1.93 ERA, 1.062 WHIP, 453 innings pitched, 48 complete games I could do that... Yawwwwwwnn. He lost 12 Games!!  Dwight Gooden's first three seasons were out of control. His rookie effort: 218 IP, 276 Ks and a 2.60 ERA. Also he only let up 7 HRs that year!
  18. Just think where that team could have gone if it had some pitching. For the record, that team had exactly 2 more walks per game than the cubs did last year. 4 players had more walks than DLee did this year. Hmmm, so you are telling me that if you put nearly 400 more men on base, you can score 400 more runs?!?!? Woah woah woah, do other people know about this? Great point. Just to show how bad their pitching was, they gave up 160 more runs than the Cubs scored last year...860! Yikes.
  19. Along with that how will this effect Prior's attitude? That would be the question I'd worry about. If it was just crazymlbrumorguy who had this story then I wouldn't be worried about it, but ESPN and Fox had it, as well as the Trib. I hope it only helps to get the Cubs sold to Mark Cuban so that we can keep Prior. And maybe get some PS2s for the players.
  20. Whoah! Tony Batista had a similar stat line in 2004: .241/.272- 110 RBIs w/ 32 Homers. I wonder who has the highest RBI/lowest OBP?
  21. Look at how many runs the '99 Indians scored! http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/CLE/1999.shtml  "That one's off the reservation!"
  22. you have to go with pujols he is young great and locked up pretty cheap for the next few years. I think Pujols signed a 7/100mil contract last year. Could be wrong though. Of course, that might be "market value" for him, only a few mil above Furcal.
  23. Yeah, I totally loved thirtysomething... Edit: Wow, that picture really highlights exactly how ugly he is... If by ugly you somehow mean gorgeous?
  24. I don't think so. The only appearance was as a late-inning defensive replacement. He was never credited with a plate appearance that I can find. well, the field of dreams reference was obvious to me when i typed it out. now that i read my post, it's pretty easy to see that no one else would catch it. Maybe we should start a new thread where we talk about this guy: http://img487.imageshack.us/img487/3263/timothybusfield5jf.gif All hail Timothy Busfield.
