  1. Considering I've locked in live-reactions on YouTube after every playoff game, the Yankees forcing us into an early slot makes me happy. It means I can get drunk post-pod if they lose. Getting drunk at 11pm at age 38 just doesn't hit like it used to.
  2. Who's going to tell ESPN that Nico's ball down the RF line was actually the seventh hardest hit ball the Cubs had all day? And actually the lowest EV of Hoerner's day?
  3. They'll have Estrada fresh off a break today. Beyond him, there is no one fresh out of the BP that is concerning. Michael King would be available (if he isn't going to start game 1 of the next series) but he's been hurt and terrible, with a 14.5 K% and a 10.8% BB% over his last 17.2 IP (that's the only sample since early May). They won't have a really reliable LHP outside of Wandy Peralta who has a .318 wOBA against LHH this year. Their bullpen will be tired, or kind of bad for most of tomorrow.
  4. Machado. There was a close up him yelling horsefeathers year in one of the shots.
  5. Mason Miller is literally throwing 103mph. What's embarrassing about striking out against this dude?
  6. Miller coming back out. Get him to 30 pitches today too. There's an art in losing the right way. Maybe today isn't going to be a W, but you can set yourself up tomorrow as good as you can by exhausting this guy.

  8. And it'll put them in a weird spot. They either have to ride Darvish for 5 innings, and he's been bad, or they have to give innings to relievers who haven't pitched in 4+ days to eat the innings if they pull him early. Or they'll have to let Miller and Estrada go extra long on three-days rest. Regardless, the Padres are going to be in a worse spot pitching than the Cubs tomorrow because the Cubs were able to get useful innings in what seems like a losing effort from Colin Rea and hopefully Taylor Rogers. While the Padres used their horses in a loss.
  9. They'll have a lot of money if they don't go the Tucker route. But there's still plenty of playoff baseball. So I'll worry about that when I need to!
  10. It's impossible to hit against these guys. I remember saying "wow" at Joel Zumaya hitting 99mph and then his arm exploding.
  11. I think Morejon will be barely available. Maybe a hitter. Season high in action for him today. Threw yesterday. He's mostly done. I would expect the rest will be available as normal, but given it's a third day, would expect them to be tired. They might throw as hard, but it will come at a cost. It could be a pitch or two that misses their spots. It could instead be wild. Or they might have a tick or two less. I don't think they'll turn into bums. But likely, they will be as hittable as they will have been all season.
  12. He literally posted his career high xwOBA. His career wRC+ is 105 and he had a 116. Since 2021, his wRC+ is 117. He's fine. There's no signs he's done.
  13. He's averaged 94mph on his fastball over the last month and the year on the whole. If he comes out firing 99-100mph, then he should be tested immediately for PED's or something.
  14. I've been writing and podcasting with the site for over a year now, so I've switched to my actual name to make it all more coherent. Same guy! Same takes!
  15. He's looked good! Padres offense isn't so hot, probably Wrigley will affect it some, too, with wind.
  16. Yeah, I'll admit, I tend to shy on the optimism side, but I think today is going to be a hell of an uphill battle. That said, there can be good that comes out of this. The Cubs need to keep this to a three game lead. That's going to force the Padres to keep using BP arms. Morejon is likely done for the series because of yesterday and today. Make Miller throw another inning. Maybe Estrada throw. Make them on 3-days usage into tomorrow.
  17. The Cubs have been the recipient of a bit of bad luck offensively today. Busch had a 1-out, xBA of over .700 find it's way to a glove with a runner on 2nd. They had EV's over 99 3x in the first inning that found gloves. As well, Shota was not particularly sharp. He fought command all day, generated just 8 whiffs, and hung a really bad one to Machado when he couldn't do that. I don't think it's this cut and dry. The offense could be better. Shota could have been better.
  18. Then what's your issue here "bro"? I got it mixed up, you just inserted yourself into a debate in which you had no position, forgive me. I'm uninterested in the game you've decided to play. You can be upset the Cubs are losing.
  19. So, you've got nothing, then? I'm not going to play into this nonsense. You're the one who said Taillon or Rea should have start. Either defend your position, or don't. But I'm not going to follow you into your random foxholes of debate so you can weasel out of making a cogent argument. I hate Ricketts as much as anyone. This is not the debate.
  20. The Padres are starting Yu Darvish tomorrow who has been pretty brutal. Even recently. If the Cubs can keep this game within three, the Padres will likely use all of their arms of consequence out of the (or most of it) BP a second straight day. They will be tired. I get we're all bummed but the Cubs still are in a decent position tomorrow.
  21. Stop moving the goalposts. Your initial complaint was that Taillon or Rea should have started today. Other than you're frustrated that they're losing, what does five years ago have to do with Shota Imanaga over those two today? I get it. You're upset. It's a bummer they're losing. But let's stay on the topic of the debate. The Padres are a bottom-10 team against LHP in almost any metric you can imagine. They're bottom-3rd for HR's. Shota's biggest issue has been the HR and the Padres just don't hit LHP or HR's. It was a fine decision.
  22. Well, it's October 1st. That's long gone. The Cubs would have had Justin Steele starting one of these games and Boyd the other but things happened. As well, the Cubs developed a roster that won 92 games. I have quibbles on the roster construction, but it's quibbles. I don't know what you wanted them to have realistically done at this stage. Imanaga was the correct call today.
  23. The Padres are, generally, really bad against LHP. The only two hitters you really have worry about are Machado and Tatis. Going with Imanaga second is the right call. I'll give you this: I think he should have yanked him at that PA, however. That's the mess up.
