    He will likely be the first HS guy off the board at the rate things are going. He sounds like a keeper...too bad he won't fall to the Cubs. :(

    Why is Murton good all-around? He's got a decent eye and acceptable OBP. But he's got no power, no special speed, nor does he have anything special with the glove. He's been doing pretty well with everything except power since he was brought up. He skipped AAA too. There is a lot of reason to believe he will keep improving. He got demoted to AAA last season, as memory serves me.

    Then seeing as there MIGHT not be an IMPACT college/polish hitter available...then the Cubs are.....(fill in your adjective) Like every year, this draft is chock full of guys who could turn out to be impact bats or who could fall flat on their faces and be worthless. The Cubs have shown in the past that they have trouble developing guys who are offensively raw and prone to K/BB issues. Now, you could make the case that this not a result of the coaching, but of the players themselves. I think there is a lot of strength in that argument. They do have a tendency to get enamored with a guy's tools and potential instead of the current product. Ryan Harvey, Brian Dopirak, Corey Patterson, and a number of others were guys who oozed tremendous tools (especially power in the first two cases), but needed work on patience and pitch recognition. By their nature, Dopirak and Harvey were destined to become High K guys because of the fact that they were power hitters. However, that should not excuse the Cubs' coaching and development in developing these guys. I don't need to rehash what's happened to those guys since we all know about it. This organization does not put as much value on plate discipline as they do in other areas. A guy with a more polished bat and good pitch recognition would at least signal a change. Maybe they don't have the same ceilings as the guys mentioned above, but there's a better likelihood that they'll be able to become good major leaguers. Why should the Cubs keep making the same mistakes and expecting different results, ya know? Some teams can effectively develop those guys...I don't think the Cubs can. This year, because the position prospect pool is not all that good, there aren't as many of the toolsy all or nothing guys. Stubbs, Marrero, Conger, and LaPorta are on that list...yet each has struggled in various ways this year. Guys like Parmelee, Snider, Rowell, Antonelli, and Longoria at least seem to have a clue at the plate. We'll see what happens soon enough...

    All project well in terms of their power and ability at the plate...but all of them might not end up at the positions they're currently at. Marrero has a good arm, but footwork at 3B is an issue. Conger's defense has been improving behind the dish, but still needs plenty of work. Snider, on the other hand, isn't very athletic and will likely end up at 1B or LF. All of them have terrific bats, though.

    In terms of prospects, Matt Murton and Scott Moore have turned out pretty well. Jerome Williams and David Aardsma could still become productive. Beyond that...the less said, the better.

    Isn't Maybin the stud first round pick from last year? Still a little raw, I think. And injured, albeit a minor finger thing (I think). He's down in Low A.

    Thomas is a hard worker by all reports. I can't see that happening at all. I meant a high flyer who can dunk and dazzle but can't create his own shot. Thomas is already a better defender than Robinson ever was Stromile Swift would probably be the better comparison and he's from LSU to boot. I've heard that comp before and think it's pretty good, although I think Thomas is much more motivated and intense than Swift.

    We were up 3-1, 2 outs none on in the bottom of the 5th, Cedeno short hops a throw to walker resulting in an IF hit (that should have been an error), and carnage ensues, the Marlins scored 5 times. So I take it everyone will be blaming this loss on Cedeno, huh?

    Redick will be there at 16...and then at 17. And probably into the 20s, thereby driving Dick Vitale absolutely insane. He only has two NBA-worthy features: the head on his shoulders and his accuracy from long range. Beyond that, he's not that good.

    I enjoy how everyone on this board with an arm condition is volunteering to pitch. I'm 5'7, 155 lbs, but I'm scruffy, I hustle, and I have surprising pop. Think of me like a lovable Marcus Giles in CF. :D

    The second round is a huge roll of the dice. The odds of selecting a player who can contribute anything meaningful are really small, needless to say. Part of me is hoping the Bulls trade their picks for a good big man who can contribute right away. I'm not sure who could be had (I'm hearing KG rumors, but he might cost much more than he's actually worth...which is still a lot), but that would definitely help matters out. I'm getting the feeling the Bulls will have Aldridge and Thomas fall into their laps. Some one like O'Bryant, Ager, or Fernandez with the #16 is plausible. NBADraft.net is predicting the Bulls take Bargnani. I haven't seen the guy play a whole lot and only have highlight reels to go by...which inherently make him seem really good. He sounds kinda raw on the defensive end and, much like most bigs in this draft, could stand put on a few pounds.

    I will say this about Florida. While farm systems, prospects, and young players are never sure things, they have an incredible combination of quality and quantity that will likely only get better should they deal off Cabrera/Willis. Which is what they should do before both get expensive and also considering they have no chance of contending this year. The Marlins understand what it means to sell high. It has come to their long-term detriment and ability to build a dynasty, but they lack the financial resources and fanbase to pull it off. Blame who you want for it, whether you despise Jeff Loria, think the fans are incredibly fairweather and apathetic, something else, or a combination of the above factors. They've managed to assemble a team that's won two World Series within a very short period of time, that produces excellent players, and that they sell very high for. While they could have kept the team intact and could have competed for the NL East this year, they chose to start over again. Much like in previous years they've gone through the rebuilding process, they have a number of promising young players and prospects. Hanley Ramirez might win NL ROY. Jeremy Hermida is incredibly promising. Josh Willingham is a really good hitter. Pitchers such as Scott Olsen, Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco, and Yusmeiro Petit are already up with the big league team getting meaningful playing time. Guys like Anibal Sanchez, Aaron Thompson, Chris Volstad, Taylor Tankersley, Kris Harvey, Ryan Tucker, and a number of other quality prospects are down on the farm. Florida will be improved next season. In two-three years, they'll be back in contention.

    Nah, they'll win tomorrow. Atlanta will then sweep them, everyone will get mad, but then they'll win 2/3 from Cincy and it'll be back to talking about an extension for Dusty.
