  1. What'll be the excuse after the Cubs lose today? "You gotta tip your hat to the better pitcher, dude."
  2. That's right kids, a starter CAN get by on only two pitches!
  3. haha. i was just doing some studying of irony and sarcasm for my finals. I learned about four forms of irony this semester. It was enlightening.
  4. Correct, although it bears pointing out that Clemens robbed Randy Johnson of a Cy Young in 2004 when RJ had Randy beat in every category except wins.
  5. Disadvantage: We'd have to hear Dave Otto instead "You gotta be some kind of strong..." "I'll tell you what, if the Cubs load em up here and Augie Ojeda hits a grand slam, this is a whole new ball game" "He's just up there throwing that easy cheese." "Hi Dave Otto!" *Awkward silence as people can be heard cracking up in the background.*
  6. We should poach Jose Oquendo from the Cardinals!
  7. http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/1183/txsign2iz.jpg Schmidt owns the Cubs.
  8. I'm still convinced that team would have made the playoffs if Baker hadn't screwed up so many times with his idiotic lineups and terrible bullpen management. Ugh, just thinking of the last 10 games of that season makes me feel ill.

  10. For those of you who may have missed it, Brian Dopirak pinch hit for West Tenn today and went 0/1.
  11. I wouldn't be all too concerned about this particular point. Catchers tend to be brought along much, much more slowly than any other position in the minors. He's 23 now (24 in July) and I believe the average age in High A is 22.5 years old. I'd love to see the guy in AA in the near future, though.
  12. There's a RHP/C named Stock out of HS who's supposed to be the Next Big Thing like Upton was last year. so uh, the way it's going we might end up with him? Assuming the Cubs pick #3 behind KC and Pittsburgh and he's making reasonable demands for his talent...yes.
  13. There's a RHP/C named Stock out of HS who's supposed to be the Next Big Thing like Upton was last year.
  14. That and injuries hampered his season shortly after he got called up to AA.
  15. Unless it was some crazy trade that somehow netted the Cubs one of the top offensive players in the game, I'd call it quits on defending Hendry.
  16. Detroit is looking dominant, again. (against a pretty good offensive team, to boot) 'Nother finals appearance? They have the easiest road to it of any team left. However, if the Spurs and Pistons are playing in the finals again this year, I may very well go blind.
  17. Depends on the situation. If the Cubs' offense somehow manages to turn it around in the next few weeks and they are actively competing for the wild card or division near the trade deadline, then I'd be open to trading either of them for a bat to put the team over the top. However, if it's a desperation move for some one to provide a spark, I'd only be open to it if the guy they got was going to be under control for at least this season and next season. There's no way I would be open to trading for a rental when this team needs something close to a miracle. I'd be more open to trading Guzman than Pie, though.
  18. I like Johnston's potential. Hopefully he can get back to form in a hurry!
  19. Say wha? Shocking, I know. Sickels tends to favor polish over potential, so this article comes to some unsurprising conclusions, imo.

  21. TT will appreciate this one: ES LIMA TIME BABY!
  22. Let's keep it in perspective people. He is facing Low A hitters. I'm happy he's done so well, but I'm not going to get excited until he comes back and does the same (only with more innings).
  23. Off the top of my head, the 2002 season was even worse than this one.
