    What's the good word on Iowa guys like Les Walrond or Ryan O'Malley? Neither are much to write home about. Walrond's 29 and has been bouncing around the minor leagues for years. O'Malley is a soft-tossing lefty.

    At this point in the season, you might as well see what you can get out of him. This team's going nowhere and the young players should get playing time over the vets. We know what to expect with guys like Rusch. Ryu, Marshall, Hill, and the others? Not quite as much so.

    Barry Bonds, Matt Williams, Jeff Kent. Jason Schmidt. Robb Nen. Dusty Manager of the Year: 93/97/00 Nen was around for 2000. Schmidt for none. Point taken, although he had Nen from 1998-2002 and Schmidt in 2001 & 2002. Rod Beck also helped.

    I've heard varying reports that his fastball has gone up a tick this season and that he's reincorporated a very good slider into his arsenal.

    A corked bat in the minors - maybe we ought to have random bat testing. Was it Iribarren? He's a prospect on the rise in the Brewers system and was ejected.

    Breezing through the scores... Peoria tied the game up at 3 and it's in the bottom of the 4th. Daytona leads 5-1 in the 4th thanks to Jake Fox's 11th HR of the season. Scoreless in West Tenn through 1. Scoreless in Iowa through 1.

    For a guy who only had something like 10 starts in West Tenn, he's done pretty well for himself.

    We have like 30 guys who can play 2B or SS. The Cubs should ship one of them off to Toronto.
