  1. Yep. If Moore has to move from 3B, it'll be into the OF. He should be pretty good defensively out there, but he'll lose some value since his bat is pretty good at 3B.
  2. Don't mess with Algerians. http://content.ytmnd.com/content/8/6/9/8691b2eb002f26a2c99a034d741ce5c8.gif http://img214.imageshack.us/img214/8770/125e067ac32841a86fc20e71015e58.gif I enjoy how Materazzi tried to kick Zidane with his left leg and whiffed.
  3. Actually, Pedro is a year younger than Trachsel at 34. I'm incredibly curious about Pelfrey, who they just called up. He was probably the top pitching prospect in the minors who had never seen the majors after Billingsley made it to the show.
  4. Really going out on a limb there aren't you? Considering the Mets are seemingly the only lock to make the playoffs, I would say there is a very good chance this will happen. I predict that somebody from either the AL or NL will win the World Series. Eh, in previous years teams have done a pretty good job of backing their way into the playoffs, especially in the NL West. When was the last big trade that made a difference in the NL; the Beltran to the Astros deal? If the trade market is dead, the NL is going to be absolutely anemic. At the rate things are going, none of these teams seem capable of putting together a 10 game winning streak. The Mutts are the only team that's been able to run away and hide with their division. Everyone else is just so terrible that a crazy blockbuster would tip the scales in a team's favor and let them make a run at the World Series. I mean, honestly, last year's Cardinals and Astros would wipe the floor with everyone in the NL Central this year. It really gets me annoyed because if this team wasn't one of the worst in team history, they'd probably be in the thick of the division race right now.
  5. I predict a team makes a trade that helps them storm into and through the playoffs in the NL. I have no idea what team it will be and what player/s will be involved, but I think it's going to happen.
  6. Let the fun continue! So, earlier in the match, Zidane injured his leftshoulder/pectoral muscle. Apparently, Materazzi was getting cheap shots in on it from that point on, trying to take Zidane out. The final straw came when this happened. That's right. Materazzi gave Zidane a purple nurple. Turns out, Materazzi's a known cheapshot artist. delightful video has a good number of clips on the guy, although the music accompanying it is NSFW. I wouldn't be surprised if the two have a history with one another. So, it turns out the Barrett/AJP comparison might well be a better one than I originally was aware.

  8. Here's the thing. In the offseason, everyone was talking about Prior for Tejada (and then later guys like Bedard, Cabrera, Cedeno, and so on were thrown into the mix). This was back when we thought Prior was going to come into the season fully healthy and ready to go. Unfortunately, since then, he's only hurt his value. His upside is huge, but so is Rick Ankiel's. That's not to say Prior is another Ankiel, but a guy's ceiling can only make his value go so far. Cedeno has also hurt his value, although as a rookie, he will get a free pass for now as he adjusts. Dempster is still a solid bullpen guy, but he's not at the same level as some of the elite closers over the past few years (Gagne, Rivera, etc). I simply have a hard time imagining why the Orioles would want to take that package in exchange for Tejada and Markakis. Tejada is still one of the best shortstops in all of base and is having a good year at the plate. Markakis has been their top prospect over the past two years. With regards to BA's Top 100 Prospects list, he was #90 in 2004, #65 in 2005, and #21 in 2006. Yes, they have had a bad farm system in recent history. That takes nothing away from the fact that he is one of the top young guys in baseball. Markakis is young, cheap, talented, and will eventually find his power stroke. In other words, it's going to take a lot to pry him away from the Orioles.
  9. Can it Scott, if this team had been playing as advertised in the offseason, we wouldn't be in this position right now. But unfortunately, you and your buddies have been playing piss-poor baseball, injuries or not. If you want the speculation to stop, step up and win. Don't whine about the media causing a distraction.
  10. Fuld came back yesterday. Most of the best hitters are too old for the league. It's not a good year for hitters in the FSL.
  11. The Holli Man had a rough start and only lasted 2.2 IP. Vero Beach is currently up 6-0 in the 4th.
  12. You're up in the draft, chico.
  13. Agreed. I think getting Zito or Schmidt is necessary not because this team needs an ace, but because this team needs a guy who can go out and give the Cubs 180+ innings along with good numbers. I'm worried about Schmidthead's overuse and recent injuries, but getting him at a good price would be most welcome.
  14. This year should prove to Cubs fans the folly of relying so heavily on pitching prospects who are good, but not can't miss ace guys. A lot of these guys have shown flashes and potential, but none of them have been ready to step up and contribute positively and consistently. As things stand right now, Prior and Zambrano are the only guys guaranteed to be in the rotation next season. I can't see this team re-signing Wood for the rotation, nor do I think Maddux will return. Lord help us all if Glendon is given another shot. That leaves three spots open. If Prior is traded, there will be four spots to fill. I don't think it would be wise to come into the season with at least two spots filled by rookie/young pitchers who are either unproven commodities (Gallagher, Wells) or who have only shown flashes at this point (Hill, Marshall, Marmol). That's a really dangerous proposition.
  15. This game has proven beyond a shadow of a doubt that Steve Philips has no right being GM ever again. Holy crap has he spouted some mindless and stupid things about prospects and their development.
  16. Grounds out to the pitcher (nice grab) for the third out.
  17. You can tell they're reading directly from Baseball America.
  18. Man, ESPN is just tormenting Red Sox fans today.
  19. Hughes is a year away. Assuming health, he'll pitch many more innings this season than he has in his professional career. With a guy like him (especially considering his injury history), the Yankees should take it easy with him. They can more easily monitor his pitch counts in the minors. If he gets called up, they'll be tempted to overuse him and tax his arm for a pennant run. Holy crap Martinez is a whale.
  20. I don't expect anything resembling quality from ESPN announcers. One Yankees prospect nearly takes the other's head off.
  21. I find it hilarious that Dusty didn't name Bynum and Pagan as "kids", considering their experience in the majors.
  22. Markakis is the best position prospect the Orioles have had in years. You're trashing Cedeno and he'd clearly be a step down from Tejada. Prior hasn't put together a non-freak injury season since 2003. Dempster is good, but not nearly good enough to tie together that package. Again, why the heck would the Orioles do that trade?
