  2. Mesa's currently losing (again, sadly) 5-2 in the 8th. Drew Rundle got the start in CF and is currently 0/2, with a walk and a K.
  3. I think this will be a fun topic of conversation in a few years if Tomlinson can stay healthy. He's the one RB I've seen since Payton retired who actually reminds me of Walter, right down to his passing TDs, great blocking, and excellent ability to catch the ball out of the backfield. He's 27 and entering his prime years. If SD gets a semi-competent offense in order, we could be slipping Tomlinson's name into this discussion in ten years. It's a shame most people only know him from highlights and fantasy football due to people ignoring the west coast; the guy is hands down the best RB in the NFL today.
  4. I think the inherent comedy value of this thread will keep it chugging along. Scott, I have to admire your optimism. If this team were sitting at 20 games under .500 with 20 games left in the season, you'd be stating that this team will rattle off 20 wins and get back to .500. That's looking on the bright side of life. If you're this peppy and hopeful in real life, more power to you. Nevertheless, this is one of the worst Cubs teams I've seen in my lifetime. It'll take a lot of changes for them to turn it around. The problem is, they've dug themselves into a really deep hole. As far as I can tell, Jim Hendry and Dusty Baker think the best way to get out of it is to dig their way out. That's a bad thing.
  5. You'll probably see Pina and Muldowney/Pawelek starting the two games Saturday and Sunday. Anything you can report on Pawelek and Muldowney would be most welcome; especially Pawelek and Pina. My knowledge is really limited on Pina, so anything you can report on his build, stuff, and so on would be most welcome. In terms of hitters, there are a number of guys who could be interesting to watch. Controversial draft pick OF Tyler Colvin will be present. I'd like to see what you think about his approach at the plate, speed, routes to flyballs, etc. SS Sammy Baez was rated as the best defensive SS in the AZL by BA last season; his bat has been coming around slowly as he fills out. I know 1B Russ Canzler has great power, but I'm curious as to his speed/athleticism/defense. RF Alfred Joseph has been making an impact with his bat and his arm. OF DJ Lewis is a favorite on the board. Yakima is the Diamondbacks affiliate. OF Cyle Hankerd was their second third rounder in 2006 and is currently one of the better hitters in the NWL. Cesar Valdez and Shane Dove appear to be their two best pitchers.
  6. Now if only we can find that post he made... Maybe Huh? made it as his own screen name...

  8. I think it depends on what his velocity looks like by the end of the month. If he's still in the 80s, then the Cubs might as well hang onto him and see what happens. If he's showing signs of improvement and stamina by month's end, I think a team might be willing to fork over a good prospect for him. Teams are always desperate for starters and will overpay. Frankly, I think the guy is an injury waiting to happen. His delivery is even more screwed up than Wood's. Anything this team can get out of him, be it a prospect or a draft pick, should be taken.
  9. Notes: Boise is up 4-0 in the 6th. Colvin has his first HR of the year. Peoria lost 8-3. Weber got shelled and Norwood hit his 10th HR of the year. West Tenn is winning 3-1 in the 9th. Juan Mateo went 7 strong giving up only 1 ER. Iowa won 8-0. Pie went 2/4 with a walk, O'Malley went 8 scoreless.
  10. Huseby and Rundle talk. We're officially in garbage time.
  11. Dusty took Z out!!!!!!!
  12. Z skipped back to the dugout, haha. Walker apparently just found out Matos was DFA'd and decided to rub it in.
  13. Z's head nearly exploded when he K'd Gross.
  14. Dusty's on a mission to save his job, pitcher abuse be damned.
  15. He'll go complete unless disaster happens. I smell 130+ pitches.
  16. I'm guessing pop-up followed by a double play.
  17. I hired you people to try to get a little track laid, not to jump around like a bunch of Kansas City *bleeps*!
  18. Real bunt, no idea if it was Jock's decision.
  19. Gee Jim, still think you should have traded Walker for him? http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?statsId=6503
  20. See, Brenly being able to call that kind of play and say it's a good idea is pretty good evidence for why he shouldn't be brought in to manage this team.
