  1. Hot streak. Check back in a month; we'll see where he is then.
  2. I'd imagine Freel will see more PT with Lopez and Kearns gone. Denorfia could become a decent everyday guy, but I'd imagine there are now more openings in the lineup to get Freel some more starts.
  3. Bizzaro Baker? Would this cause the Cubs to be thrown off balance? Maybe he'd confuse Dusty into being his son. Then he'd start regularly, no matter how bad he struggles.
  4. Hill's pitching tonight for Iowa. That's not the answer I wanted. Please try again. ...cupcak taste gud?
  5. 11 runs in one inning courtesy of two grand slams and a two run homer. i think your math is off There was also a random basehit/error in there somewhere.
  6. 11 runs in one inning courtesy of two grand slams and a two run homer.
  7. The crowd's pissed off. Trashing the field, once again...on national TV.
  8. sans Z. He's not a Cub as far as I'm concerned. He's reached deity status and is ergo not really a Cub.
  9. WHAT?!?!?!! Holy...moley. Just...just trade this team. Every single one of them.
  10. I feel bad for the guy, he looks really pissed off at himself. I can't wait to trade him for a crappy Low A pitching prospect.
  11. Walker is a goner. Nice knowing ya, Todd.
  12. Juan Pierre's crap dive and Marshall throwing a meatball to a guy who's hitting less than .200 against lefthanders didn't help, either.
  13. Novoa warming up AGAIN? Does that man not feel exhaustion?
  14. I'd pay to hear the conversation Walker will have with Morgan and Miller when he calls to whine to them about his supposed bobbling.
  15. Great, Dusty's talking about next year. Please beat me with a 2x4.
  16. Colvin also racks up an assist at home. Nice.
  17. Sometimes statistics are wrong, you know.
  18. "Blah blah blah Ryne Sandberg sucks blah blah blah Big Red Machine blah blah blah I hate computers..." Joe hates their statisticians, by the way.
  19. I came in late, how many "SHUT UP JOE!" moments have there been so far?
  20. Here's my current concern. After this series, the Cubs go on a mini-run, something like winning 8 out of their next 10, getting up to 48-57 and moving up to something like 8 games out of the Wild Card in the process. This will convince Hendry and Dusty that the Cubs are still in the race for the WC and stand pat or possibly even make a move for a veteran utility guy, thinking that since the Cubs could take 2 of 3 from the best team in the NL, they have to be competitive! They'll then spend August starting useless veterans over promising young guys who should be getting time, completely collapse by the 15th of August, and then flounder for the rest of the season. Then again, maybe the Mutts will come back and win somehow.
  21. I'm curious whether you meant "if he decides to stick with baseball" here or whether you see a possibility of him switching positions from pitcher. Samardzija is from Roast's hometown not too far from me, and there was a lot of local media attention when the Cubs drafted him. I read a couple of columns suggesting that -- if he sticks with baseball -- the Cubs would be wise to consider getting him some time in the outfield. He pitched some in high school, but made all-state as an outfielder and his athleticism was apparently evident on the defensive side. Just wondering if that's something you had in mind. I was unaware of his time as a position player! I meant if he decided to stick with baseball. That's interesting to know, though.
  22. It's his second go-round! Angel Guzman deserves some mention somewhere on your list (Rocketing UP the List?) just for being healthy. Ehhhh...I think Guzman's problem is staying healthy for a full season. He hasn't done that since 2002. If he can make it to the end of this season without another catastrophic injury, he'll be on that list. Also, I forgot about Mark's single start at Boise last season. That doesn't really count, but... *Shrugs*
