  2. Do you trust Hendry to know what a solid bat is? On the one hand, you have guys acquired via trade such as Lee, Lofton, Ramirez, Nomar (remember, it was a good deal at the time), and Barrett. On the other hand, you have such luminaries as Pierre, Lawton, Hairston, and Bowen. Tough call.
  3. I hear it's for Tim's secret side project, a Cubs fan dating site.
  4. Injuries. He hasn't been the same since he got hit in the face on a throw from his catcher back in college.

  6. David Eckstein looks like he's 12, so that automatically disqualifies this. CS works better, imo. The higher, the better.
  7. Number of times batting leadoff or #2 has to be in there. You want your gritty guys to always hit in one of the top two spots in the order.
  8. Even the Houston Astros? Awesome.
  9. I'm surprised no one has made any IRS jokes yet.
  10. Someone inform Chippy that Taveras is Juan Pierre Redux. Seriously, did anyone see that throw home from shallow OF?
  11. Funny how Livan Hernandez "breaks the rule to all hell," yet has seen a dramatic decrease in his stuff's effectiveness since Dusty decided to ride him into the ground.
  12. I'll do the bad and the good with Veal... The Bad: His control and mechanics are completely out of whack. He has some really good pure stuff, but he has a lot of trouble harnessing it. Part of the advantage he has had so far is that most guys in the low minors aren't used to that kind of pure stuff. As he's advanced, better hitters have been able to make him pay. There's also an injury history with him, but he doesn't seem to have been bothered by anything since joining the Cubs. The Good: As mentioned above, he has really good stuff. When his mechanics are working, he has a good fastball and a nice curve to complement it. He's received Vida Blue comparisons, so his ceiling is really nice. We'll see what happens with him, but these kinds of guys normally don't hit their ceilings. I'd put him behind Gallagher and Samardzija on the pitching prospect list at this point.
  13. There's some good fishing to be had on the Ohio/Pennsylvania border along with plenty of good lakes in Kentucky. ...dude.
  14. You're welcome. I nominate this for post of the day.
  15. He sounds like a future ML reliever more than anything else, imo.
  16. Bay's numbers over the past three years (2005, 2006, 2007)... AVG: .306, .286, .247 OBP: .402, .396, .327 SLG: .559, .532, .418 IsoD: .096, .110, .080 IsoP: .253, .246, .171 HR: 32, 35, 21 K: 142, 156, 141 BB: 95, 102, 59 RC: 143, 126, 78 RC/27: 8.7, 7.8, 5.0 OPS+: 148, 136, 92 Bay turns 30 next season. While his three years numbers suggest a decline, his 2005 was his best season by far while 2006 appears more to be around his career averages. The critical question with Bay is whether or not his 2007 was a fluke. What gives me pause is the fact that all of his numbers in 2007 were down, from patience to power. That could be indicative of any number of things, correctable or otherwise. However, this would be a perfect buy low opportunity for Hendry. Bay's a talented young player who could potentially be had for relatively cheap. Moreover, even if Bay doesn't play up to his 2005/2006 numbers, he's likely to outproduce any one of Murton, Floyd, or Jones.
  17. The Rabbit? That's a good nickname.
  18. http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/cin/images/email/2007/baker_hs_150.jpg I forgot about those cheeks. They look like he can store enough food in them to make it through winter.
  19. This quote from our ugly red-headed step sister board bears repeating...
  20. For those of you Reds fans out there, go into your toolbox and pull out a hammer. Take said hammer and smash yourself in the skull with it. Now you can think like Dusty!
