  1. I'm happy he's fully recovered from his problems, but I hope he stays the hell away from the Cubs.
  2. Also, Porky Lopez was named bullpen coach. His background: 1996 Giants coaching assistant 1997 Giants bullpen catcher 1998 Giants bullpen catcher 1999 Giants bullpen coach 2000 Giants bullpen coach 2001 Giants bullpen coach 2002 Giants bullpen coach 2003 Cubs bullpen catcher 2004 Cubs bullpen catcher 2005 Cubs bullpen catcher 2006 Cubs bullpen catcher I see a pattern developing.
  3. Where are Sarge and Gene Clines when you need them?
  4. Don't worry, there's a Virginia guy on there and at the exact spot the Cubs will likely be drafting (#19).
  5. Marshall and Colvin would have gotten the job done, but something tells me the Cubs value Colvin more than they should. I don't see them trading him unless it's for a big name. Renteria doesn't fit that bill, imo.
  6. Matt LaPorta, come onnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn down!
  7. Considering Jurrjens >>>> Sean Marshall...probably not. I like Jurrjens a lot, but Marshall is more advanced and had better numbers through the minors. Gorkys Hernandez, on the other hand, put up pretty good numbers (aside from power) in the MWL for a 19 year old. It would have taken more than Marshall and a throw in to get Renteria.
  8. I was really hoping the Cubs would draft him back in the day. Whoops.
  9. Buster Olney is a moron. Just wait. You know the columns coming over the next few months regarding A-Rod are going to be borderline insane at best.
  10. I'll put a billion Stanly nickels on him going to the Red Sox. Eleventeen Brazilian Dollars on him going to the Giants.
  11. That'd be hot. Can we also trade for Tejada and Bedard while we're at it?
  12. If Boston College wins the National Championship, the Patriots win the Super Bowl, and the Celtics win the NBA Title, I may very well run off to Tajikistan and become a hermit.
  13. Say what you want about the guy, but I think he wants a ring quite badly. If that were the case, he'd stay with the Yankees, imo. They spend more money than any other team and field a competitive team every year. He wants to get the hell out of New York. Rest assured, he'll be the highest paid player in baseball, but he won't get nearly as much money as Boras thinks.
  14. Crisp in the last three years: 2005: .300/.345/.465, 110 OPS+ 2006: .264/.317/.385, 77 OPS+ 2007: .268/.330/.382, 83 OPS+ Jacque Jones in the last three years: 2005: .249/.319/.438, 98 OPS+ 2006: .285/.334/.499, 108 OPS+ 2007: .285/.335/.400, 87 OPS+ I'm going to go with a big fat "no" on that one.
  15. The Giants have to be the dark horse candidate.
  16. I just came in here to say: UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUBALDO!
  17. Dude, it wasn't directed against you or anyone else on the board. It was just a nitpick.
  18. This part I'm not so sure I agree with. He still has to find a way to make sure he gets the most run production and run prevention for his dollar. I would not be surprised in the least if he has people on his staff who compile statistics on more than just OBP and OPS, you know? That stuff fits with the SABR community quite effectively.
