Could be cash considerations at this point. You know, this Cash guy keeps getting traded back and forth between teams. Any time there's a deal for a PTBNL, do you think he saves himself some trouble and cleans out his locker before evening getting the announcement? -
See, I think this way with Hill. Hendry has to realize that he has a number of in-house options for the bullpen who can come in and perform effectively. If he brings back Kerry Wood, all the better. Hill, on the other hand, gave the Cubs 195 innings of sub-4 ERA ball with a ton of strikeouts. That simply cannot be overlooked. He cannot be replaced nearly as easily. If Dempster replaces Hill, Hendry better realize that he will have to make up for this move with a big addition to the offense or rotation. Crawford is good, but not that good. A Marshall/Marmol/Cedeno package would be fair, imo.

I'm lukewarm on him. If he can be had at a reasonable price, I'd be all for it. However, considering he's seeking years and numbers that I'm not particularly a fan of, I'd rather pass on him. -

The thing about relief pitchers is that they are so volatile from year to year. I really do not want to see the Cubs invest a lot of resources into another relief pitcher. Cripes, every year you can pick up guys from the scrap heap, bring up prospects from your own system, and even look to international free agents for help. It's a cheaper way of dealing with any perceived bullpen problems. Frankly, I think the Cubs have a handful of guys who could become good relievers next year in their system. This kind of a move is unnecessary.

I think this might be Hendry's first step in an offseason of house cleaning with regards to contracts. If he really wants Fukudome, Kuroda, and Matsui that badly, he's going to have to dump some salaries. I can see DeRosa and Marquis getting the heave-ho if things keep up like this.

I'm going to wait and see what the details of this deal are before passing judgment. Jones for Infante straight up is ludicrous, but if there are prospects and/or cash considerations involved, I'll give it some more thought. By the way, this isn't Hendry's worst move by a longshot. Hell, it's not even the worst move he's made in the past 3 months.

Seriously, what is the best Out of Conference win for a Big 10 team this year? Ohio State at 3-6 Washington? 3-6 Washington State at Wisconsin? 4-5 Pittsburgh at MSU?
