  1. Arm action is always welcome, but Parker also had some great lower body movement to get the extra oomph on his pitches. If Gray has easy arm action without effective leg action, you might as well pencil him in for a future shoulder/arm surgery.
  2. Parker's mechanics were really good, from what I've read about him. I'd like to see if Gray's mechanics can stack up.
  3. Somebody did it.
  4. Seriously, what the hell is wrong with the teams in this division?
  5. I'm willing to make an argument that Ohio State is the 7th worst BCS team. I think they'd beat Hawaii, but it'd be close.
  6. Brewerfan is a good place to read up on the MLB Draft. The Hardball Times also has minor league stuff posted on occasion. Minor League Splits is really helpful for nuanced stats. Baseball-Reference has a minor league section. During the course of the season, this forum is hopping. We have a bunch of posters who are involved in baseball in a variety of capacities (announcers, writers, scouts, etc.). Plus, we have daily threads dedicated to minor league box scores and people who are following the game.
  7. That was a surprisingly enjoyable game.
  8. His throwing arm action is horrible. His non-throwing arm needs to come in more towards his body while bringing his glove in earlier and more gradually. Everything else is pretty darn nice, though.
  9. That is funny, but not nearly as funny as Manny cutting off the throw in the outfield. I'm practically in tears every time I see that. Oh god, best play I've seen in my life......Is this on video anywhere? I can never find it if it is. Yoink
  10. I doubt I'd ever stop laughing if you guys traded away the farm for Bedard. Maybe this is a move for Blanton? I'd doubt the Rangers would want to trade Volquez away to a divisional rival. If Beane wants him, this would help the Reds' pursuit for another pitcher.
  11. I'd be all for renaming it Pink Taco Field or something equally ridiculous/borderline offensive.
  12. Bruce Miles has posted on here before that JH's interest in Brian Roberts is legitimate, but that's been the extent of everything.
  13. Trammell seems to be a good option, but does anyone know what his style was when he was in Detroit? I'd like to get to know more about him before anointing him Lou's eventual replacement. If Sandberg is serious about becoming a manager some day, I think he's going to have to get more time managing under his belt. Moreover, he's also going to have to eventually end up being a coach at the major league level so he gets a better handle on how to deal with major leaguers on an everyday basis. I think Sandberg has the intelligence and ability to manage some day. I don't know if he actually will, but he could be a good candidate a few years down the road.
  14. The release point for Hill's fastball and curveball along with the initial plane of both is also the reason for his deception. He never developed a two seam fastball since the four seamer's flat plane worked nicely with his curveball, which starts relatively normally, and then just drops off the table.
  15. they both have japanese ties, who knows if they speak the language at all What are Soriano's Japanese ties, out of curiosity?
  16. Are they thinking about dropping the VSL joint team with the Twins? Because all of the guys who would go there might be shipped off to to the new DSL team.
  17. I'm guessing the Cubs signed him to a minor league deal? He sounds like the kind of guy who'll start the season at AA/AAA rather than start with the team immediately out of spring training.
  18. Sweet. I was planning on making it out to Peoria next year, considering I'm now about an hour and a half from there. :D
  19. That's horrible. :( I can only wish them the best.
  20. 1. Its an opinion, not someone "making stuff up." 2. There is no burden of proof on anyone initiating an opinion, as it is an opinion. This isn't a court case, and there are no incontrovertible facts related to situational opinions. The opponent of that person positing a qualitative opinion always has the burden of proof in proving them wrong, because they chose to challenge that opinion. If you feel that he's "making stuff up," the only two real options are either to (a.) ignore it, or (b.) disagree with it using identical qualitative premises. Disagreeing with it using incomplete quantitative measures doesn't really do much to prove it false. Let me guess, you just took your Evidence final?
  21. The sheer amount of snark in this thread is awesome. Thanks for the laughs, guys. :D
  22. I think Bob Ley hasn't put on a pair of pants all week.
