Maybe they cooled on the idea when Pettitte announced he was coming back. They probably figure they can squeeze some other team of a starter without giving up as much in talent. They come out of this whole deal with egg on their face, though. Hank Steinbrenner comes off as a loudmouth who uses the media like two things: 1) His personal Livejournal 2) His bully pulpit Seriously, I wouldn't want to deal with the Yankees after seeing how they made ludicrous offers in all seriousness, complained loudly when the Twins turned down the offers, publicly vacillated on including a number of guys who should be in the deal from the get-go, dragged out negotiations because they were too stubborn, and then set a deadline which everyone knew was full of garbage. The Twins wanted to dump Santana, but they weren't stupid, desperate, or lacking other interested parties.
