    If people are questioning Tucker's commitment and passion for baseball, and are using that as a reason not to sign or re-sign him, then it's fair game to question Shaw's priorities when he ducked out in the middle of a playoff race to attend...whatever the hell that was.

    I kinda get it with Conrad vs. Ballesteros, since Mo comes with prospect fatigue and it's easy to see him as a DH only guy, and Conrad would have likely been a Top 5 pick in the most recent draft if he were healthy. I don't agree with it, but I can see it. What I don't get are Hartshorn and Wing. Don't get me wrong, I like them both, but they were high ceiling high school prospects who are a long, long ways away. Cripes, Wing is still relatively new to pitching. To me, you either have to be extremely high on both, or have a very, very negative opinion on the Cubs' system to rank them that highly.

    The other unknown with Hoerner is how teams view his potential as a SS. He's been a 2B because he's playing next to one of the best defensive shortstops in the game. If a team thinks Nico can play SS well for the next 3-5 years, that could easily put a thumb on the scale in his favor for certain teams.

    That's the thing, we don't know what he's done. It's also possible he's done jack crap and is still a domestic abusing scumbag. There are ways for people in his situation to rehabilitate his image and demonstrate to the world that he's a better person now, but I'm not aware of any interviews or stories with him or his ex about that. Bringing him back out of the blue comes across as callous, at the very least.

    It's admittedly hilarious walking around my north suburban neighborhood and seeing all of the IU flags that have come out of the woodwork. I'm happy they finally have something to celebrate, but it's admittedly hilarious that these houses have had zero sports-related merch up over the last few years.

    Cubs. Shaw and PCA *might* be enough to get you Skenes by themselves if the Pirates believed in Shaw's bat, but Skubal's got one year of team control. Something like last year's Kyle Tucker trade might be more in line with reality to get Skubal.

    Next season, you're guaranteed to see inning/pitch restrictions on Horton, Steele, and Wiggins due to prior injuries. That's also not counting potential wear and tear concerns with Boyd (whose 179.2 IP in 2025 eclipsed his last three seasons of IP combined) and Imanaga (who clearly wore down in the second half of 2025). Taillon also has a history of arm trouble. The days of the MLB SP who can give you a healthy 150+ IP over the course of multiple seasons in a row are long, long gone.

    I know I've been bagging on the farm elsewhere, but the Cubs actually are positioned really nicely to see a rebound on the farm next season based on their recent international signing classes and the 2025 draft. I can see them end 2026 with Wiggins, Rojas, Kepley, and Conrad in Top 100 lists along with a bunch of lower level bats making noise. I don't think they need to replenish the farm, more that they need to develop pitching. Bichette for 3B, and Shaw as the heir apparent 2B in 2027? I can work with that.

    Probably Bregman, given that the team had prior interest in him. Although, I'm curious as to whether there are any bats in the trade market who might be worth a gander. The Cubs still have ammo on the farm for another trade if they want to swing another deal.

    Love the deal. No Wicks/Assad/Brown in the trade gives the team flexibility and rotation depth to open the season. Hernandez was one of those guys who went from massively overhyped to quietly underhyped, and Edgardo DeLeon is a lottery ticket (albeit an intriguing one). Losing Caissie sucks, but he needs regular playing time and I just didn't see it happening for him on this team next season. Now go get a big ticket bat so we can call it an offseason.

    Rojas is reminiscent of Gleyber Torres when he was dealt to the Yankees for Chapman. He's a really fun prospect who's easy to dream on, but far enough down the minors that you pull the trigger if he gets you a substantial upgrade at the major league level.

    The reason Tucker makes sense to me is I can see teams getting spooked with his medicals. I don't think he's Carlos Corea bad, but his injury history should be enough to give teams pause when it comes to offering him a huge contract, like he'd expect. He could easily end up take something like a 5 year deal with opt-outs after years 2 and 3, which would be up Jed's alley.

    You forgot #3: those who have had Tommy John Surgery, and who will have it again at some point.

    I still think Jed intends to wait out the top end FA bats to see who'll take a deal. The money is there, but this team loves to wait FAs out until their market hits bottom. It's why I think Tucker actually makes a lot of sense, if teams like Toronto and the Mets aren't willing to pony up.
