  1. Horton getting three swings and misses from Stowers on the change was really, really nice to see.
  2. Kind of a blah night on the farm.
  3. It's also worth remembering that he's a second year player who's only pitched a little over 100 innings in the majors. Part of Brown's development will involve him making mistakes and having bad outings like yesterday. It sucks because this team looks like it could be the class of the National League, and there isn't much room for mistakes and bad outings against bad teams, especially with a shaky bullpen.
  4. Having a reliable and healthy Wicks would be a ludicrously good thing for the Cubs down the stretch. This team has been a blast, but they won't get anywhere in the playoffs without a decent rotation, and I keep waiting for a correction to hit on Boyd and Rea. Having Wicks be a solid option would go a long way in alleviating those concerns.
  5. I will inject every motherfucker here in the forehead with heroin if he's traded.
  6. His dad sounds like a peach.
  7. I just can't get a great read on Long. On the one hand, that bat should be able to play at any position, and the idea that he could be even a mediocre defensive 3B would make him a phenomenal supersub option. On the other hand, the power just isn't where I'd want it to be for a guy who projects to be a 1B/LF/DH.
  8. He sounds Ian Happ-ish, which would be a really good outcome for where the Cubs are drafting, but that also feels a bit underwhelming.
  9. Roast and CT are both in their mid-30s, if my math is right.
  10. I had it in my head that Cruz was called up later. 🤷‍♂️ Prior's callup was fun. I was good friends with his cousin in HS and Prior stayed with them when he first came to Chicago.
  11. Trying to rack my brain on the last time the Cubs had a SP like Horton debut. Wicks was probably the closest in recent memory, but his stuff/upside wasn't comparable. Juan Cruz maybe?
  12. I'm not as worried about position player depth as pitching. There's enough quality depth at the top of the minors to cover most of the IF and OF if anyone has to take an extended IL stint, and I think the team would be able to tread water in those circumstances. Pitching, on the other hand...ugh.
  13. I'm actually okay with the developmental path he and Alcantara are currently following, even if certain people were calling for both to be on the opening day roster. There's no urgency to call either up this season if the OF remains healthy, meaning they can fine-tune their approaches and start every day, and also meaning they can be used as trade bait if needed at the deadline or in the offseason to fill whatever holes are needed, particularly if the Cubs extend Tucker and/or Happ.
  14. When even the White Sox don't want you, questions should be asked.
  15. I always get annoyed putting together these kinds lists this early in the season, because the signal to noise ratio with prospects always seems to be at its strongest in the early going. We're relying a lot on secondhand reports for players in Arizona, and it's unclear if early returns in the minors are blips due to small sample size/weather/rust/whatever or show legitimate helium or cause for concern. Still, Jason has it exactly right: the good players have been good (mostly) and there have been enough lower level pop-ups to make the 11-20 guys more interesting now than they were this time last year.

  17. Aloy would be fantastic, and fits the profile the Cubs seem to like in the first round for hitters. I'm sorry, there is no way this is a real school. It sounds like something someone made up for purposes of scamming the Department of Education.
  18. That would also explain the blur covering part of the helmet.
  19. You hush up with your rational adult talk, angry children are overreacting in here!
  20. Can we move Nico to SS, call up Shaw for 2B, and then put Dansby on an ice floe out to sea?
