  1. Sun-Times... Sources said the Redskins are set to pay Briggs $20 million in guaranteed money as part of a multiyear deal that will average $7.5 million per season.
  2. No disrespect to this thread cuz i love it. But..... I am so over this Spring Traing Exhibition Phony Bologne. Im ready for the real deal and for the Cubs to begin their journey to the 2007 World Series. Yeah thats right World Series. Lets get this thing started NOW.
  3. Wasnt the arguement in the 70's and early 80's to not lift weights and bulk up because it would ruin your swing put to rest? Alfonso Soriano is a freak. Guys his size are not supposed to jack homers like he does. There are a lot of guys who dont have bulk and are equally strong but they lose power because they dont have the mass behind the swing. Its not just about strength. Id put good money that over the years Bonds really hasnt gotten 'stronger'. He was definetly lifting weights pre 1998. When he takes his shirt off now, then you see why hes over 700 HRs.
  4. Yes. Ive read many reports that his work ethic is being put into question. He appears to be out of shape at workouts. He has all the tools to be awesome something like this would be so dumb to let it get in his way. However i am a little skeptical of the criticism because he did come into the 2006 more in shape and shed some pounds than from the year before. But this is the time to not be out of shape. Im not too concerned that he cant play the whole game because the Bears use a rotation of DL/DT, but i dont like hearing if his work ethic is being put in question.
  5. "At the very least, treatment with HGH does seem to reduce body fat and increase muscle mass." Thus HGH is best when used in combo with steroids. The combo gets you big and strong without getting all fatty like Giambi. True, HGH alone wont make you 'immediately' stronger 'on the bench' like anabolic steroids but over time with muscle mass buidup you will become bigger/stronger faster than without it. "So far, no one has been able to connect the increase in lean body tissue caused by HGH with enhancement of athletic performance." Okay so tell me how not being 295lbs DT isnt any better than being a 260lbs. If i needed those extra 35lbs how is that not good. Sure i guess i could be the new version of Keith Traylor and eat my way to 35lbs of blubber or i could be more athetic DT and gain 30lbs of muscle and 5 of fat. Being 'big' in baseball is good. You have more mass and leverage to be behind the ball. Maybe im strange for thinking that.
  6. Darwin Walker is a bad ass. I remember a play where he bull rushed the opposing guard directly into the QB's face before he finished his 5 steps. It was the sled drill done with a real human instead. I like his game because of that.
  7. I see Briggs sitting out 10 weeks. He plays 6 weeks and is getting about $3M for that. Still a nice pay raise from 2006. Patriots didnt get their 1st round pick until this year for Branch. At least under this scenario the Bears wont have to wait a year to fill that void. IF you are going to do this its better to do it now than play the who blinks first game.
  8. What does the point system say compared to what the patriots got from the seahawks for Branch? I check your link :)
  9. They wouldn't get anybody that could come close to Briggs' production, and they'd still be desperate for O lineman, not to mention RB depth and secondary help. If you go DT with the 6 and OLB with the 37, then I think you have to go O line with your 3rd, and your already at the 94th pick by then. Your 4th round pick is 130, and by then your pickings will be slim for Benson's running mate or WR help, and you haven't even addressed the secondary. Well its a given that nobody will come close to Briggs production on 2007, expecting a rookie to produce as much as him isnt what is being traded for here. You want Briggs production, wait 10 games and get 6. Even if Briggs isnt traded im going to think hard about burning a high pick on an OLB anyway Brown was just re-signed, drafting an OG with 31 or 37 isnt as much a priority if he wasnt signed. AA in secondary isnt as important high round pick anymore either. You've just described all the need areas, how is not trading Briggs going to solve what you just laid out here. I subsribe to the philosophy that 'it all starts up front.' Especially with this defense. This will be the Bears last chance (baring another trade like this)in 5 years to draft an Impact DT, thats why i jump on this opportunity. Sure Patrick Willis at 6 and an OG at 37 would fill needs quicker but i dont think an OLB is as important at as an impact DT. OLB is very strong in this draft, waiting til 37 to get that isnt that big a drop off from Willis, i would take that gamble.
  10. Member the criticism the Cubs got for what they received in return for trading walker (i thought they could of gotten more too)? The Padres are going to eat $4M in releasing Walker. I dont understand why the offered him arby and are now releasing him before the season starts, that doesnt seem forward thinking to me. EDIT: They are going to pay him $971,311 in termination pay. Never heard that before in MLB with a contract.
  11. According to The Trib, the two had a meeting sans Rosenhaus this evening. And apparently the Bears offered to promise to not franchise him in 08. And he turned it down. So to recap, he was offered a 6 year 33 mil deal last year, then turned down a guaranteed 7 mil for one year, along with the promise he could hit free agency next year, and possibly get more than the 20 million guaranteed he is looking for..... So we could draft Willis, Landry, Branch, Okoye....... . I was thinking this too. One of those guys AND Tommie? OMG. Branch is freakin huge but he's not a fat ass. If you looked at just his size you would say he doesnt fit this defense but hes not a Ted Washington, Traylor type of DT, hes really athletic and plays fast. Okoye fits the system really well, probably a little more prototypical, but since they have Tommie's game i would lean toward Branchs game as more of a compliment These are the guys i want with #6 and they can still get a very good OLB at #37.
  12. Ill take the Lions. Im fairly knowledgeable about them because most of my friends are lions fans and i hear them B&M all the time, its great fun. It should be easy selecting for them because they need a lot of help.
  13. Ill take Ruben Brown for only $2.2M. ''It's totally blowing my mind,'' Brown said. ''Just because three years ago everybody in the NFL said I was done. I never felt like I was finished. Thank God for the Bears sticking with me. They've got Terrence [Metcalf], they've got [Roberto] Garza and they can draft someone. They could have told me to take a hike. This is total respect, what they did for me.'' This is nice to hear.
  14. Hoya paranoia in the house.
  15. Alan Trammel. The big negative i heard on him in Detroit was how he filled out the lineup card. You go fill out that lineup card he had with that talent. good luck with that. Im glad he's the Cubs bench coach.
  16. Minnesota is saying they are not interested in Carr. With their current Qbs on their roster if they arent interested in a FA Carr i dont know what Houston could do to swing a trade. There isnt a market for him believe it or not. If he signs a somewhat big money contract then i would say Houston screwed up, until then ill say there isnt a market for him.
  17. You and me are sitting in the same boat. For my money pool all i need is UCLA to win it and i win it all. I think if Oregon beats Florida i might get 2nd. If UCLA plays Gtown in the finals i win no matter what. I must be the only person picking UCLA to win in my pool of 30+. I think thats odd. So far in this tourney no team has really stuck me as the team to beat. Almost all the good teams have had tremendous scares. All of the #1 seeds are in it but could easily be sitting home today as well.
  18. USC with a major choke job here. they were rolling and now on the verge of getting blown out. Crazy
  19. SIU gets my vote as the best mid major program in America. They are impressive.
  20. Why would Izzo of Donovan go to UK really??. Im having a hard believing any one of those would leave. UNLESS Kentucky throws Nick Saban money at those guys. Its going to take that much for Izzo to leave. Why would he leave East Lansing for another job where 1 guy with a National Championship and average of 26 wins a season just left to coach Minnesota? Izzo isnt anywhere near or would he ever be on the hot seat. MSU has been cheap in the past with Nick Saban so who knows, but this is the basketball program and not football. Football is 2nd to the MSU basketball program. Same goes with Donovan. Florida has the money to ante up because they are freaking loaded with $. UK needs to blow them out of the water when it comes to pay. IF Florida wants Donovan, UK cannot outspend them, unless its Nick Saban ridiculous. Forget Thad Matta. Nobody spends more $ on their athletics than OSU and its not even close. Even if UK gives him NS $ i bet OSU is crazy enough to match it. Calipari needs to come to Michigan. If he can recruit in Memphis he can recruit in AA. UM has the $ to pay him handsomely. They were serious about Pitino and almost damn near got him but for his wife telling him to move back to kentucky.
  21. Tonight should be great night. Im really looking forward to SIU taking down Self and his jayhawks. Id had this game on my radar since the tourney came out and im not a SIU fan.
  22. Ive seen him throw it once. It was bad because he slinged it across his body. Other than that havent seen it enough to say it isnt working. I Could of missed a few pitches though.
