  1. First im going to look at an everyday player. I need a player when people buy tickets they are going to see him for sure. Pujols. 25 years old and i got him locked up for another 5 years at $14M per year with an option for $16M. That contract in today's market isnt bad. The dude puts up the most sickest numbers in the game and is so consitant. I have a new franchise having a player like him and paying him $14M shows people im going to spend some money. Great for getting corporate sponsors behind me. Cabrera is a close second. I think next year is his last year before he gets arbitration so after that i going to have to fork over some coin. When he hits arby he wont be cheap anymore, see alfonso soriano. He'll still be lower than pujols but by the end of his 3 years of arbiration he will be $10M+, see aramis ramirez. If i need to pull a Marlins fire sale because i got a GM who is a clown id rather spin Pujols than Cabrera. Larger market teams dont care about saving a few million when it comes to the premier player in the league.
  2. I think his dad was a real jerk in the negotiations too. Colorado couldnt stand him. What about Millwood. Didnt he turn a multi year deal for like $12M+. Accepted arbitration and thereafter got single season deals. Cleveland didnt pay him much last year.
  3. If Hendry is so dead set on getting rid of Prior, then they should deal him to Boston for Manny and Arroyo. But having said that, I think whoever has Hendry's cell phone service should shut off his phone for a couple weeks, and cancel his email, too. Make him unreachable. Keep him away from phones, if he's going to shop Prior. Maybe he is trying to Dusty Proof the team, but I just cannot believe he'd weaken the biggest strength on the team just because he's afraid Baker won't play Cedeno AND Murton. If this was such a problem, then why be an idiot and sign Perez, just to end up having to deal your 24 year old ace starter because your manager is bloody stupid? If he's panicking because he hasn't really improved the offense, then why weaken the strength you have left to do so? It doesn't make sense. There's no rational reason to be shopping Prior for anything less than a top 5 player in baseball. Maybe Hendry can spin his magic and get BOTH Manny and Tejada.........Hmmm? That aint magic thats fairy dust.
  4. In a big surprise the #5 RB Carlos Brown committed to Michigan. Why he came to Michigan is perplexing. He will be behind and have to compete against both Hart and Grady for 2-3 year. My friends and i have no idea why we wants to be a wolverine.
  5. Me too, but im still pretty scared. If i hear news the talks are dead christmas day it will be one of the great christmas' of my life. oh and a bears division title would be great too.
  6. That's key. He needs to be in the opening day rotation. I don't mind them having someone around to push Reyes. I like the signing, Ponson is the type of guy Duncan could do wonders with. I guess it's ok for Ponson to push Reyes, but if he stumbles and falls on top of him, I don't think Reyes would survive. Speaking of stumbling and Ponson. Is that him in your avatar?
  7. Im watching the Navy/CSU game.....thats sorry.
  8. One player who does get any pub and i dont know where he finished in pro bowl voting is John Tait. The dude has been absolutely solid this year switching to LT. LT for the bears has been awful since blake left for the broncos years ago. Tait really has suprised me how well of a LT he is. Played pretty damn good against Peppers and Rice.
  9. The Orioles are pissing me off again. They pissed me off last year about the trade for sosa and now they are at it again. Prior and Tejada should never be mentioned in the same sentence when proposing a trade. Now that Chuck Lamar is gone Angelos thinks its his duty to become the donkey GM of the league. Screw these birds, let them rot in 4th place in the AL east. They want to much in this deal. Kiss my ass.
  10. I wouldn't be shocked to see Rivers dealt to Arizona for a first and third rounder. I've heard rumors of Rivers to the Jets for Jonathan Vilma, and maybe picks going each way. Merriman, Edwards AND Vilma? Ive heard rumors of this too but mostly coming out of NY.
  11. Ive havent seen roy enough to judge him fairly. But, he is the one that blew the game to the Redskins. He got burned twice by moss deep over the middle on the monday night game.
  12. Its only natural since neifi and hairston (soon to be) will have bigger contracts that walker. I mean guys who get paid more should play more rigth? Until i see it, then ill believe it. I cant believe they would be so bufoonish.
  13. I heard Jones saying that he is going to work on his patience at the plate. He said he did last year but needs to work on it more. The problem is he NEEDS to work on his AVG. Having an OBP of .319 with a batting average of .249 isnt all that bad. IF he could get his average to a respectable .280 and maintain these walks this could be good signing. IF he could get his average to .300 like he did 02 and 03 and maintain his BB similar to last year this would be a great signing. Big IFS considering hes batted .254 and .249 the last 2 years. Those scouts better be right like they were with Barrett. The risked a lot money on these IF's.
  14. And i might say i wouldnt bet against Jim Tressel with 4 weeks to prepare. 3-1 bowl record 2 BCS wins. Beat Miami to ending a 34 game win streak Its a toss up, both on the field and on the sideline.
  15. Amen brother. I haven't as pissed off watching sports since the fall of '04 when the Cubs collapsed, as I was yesterday watching Mike Green's absolutley pathetic attempt at tackling on Hines Ward's touchdown in the 1st quarter. Terrible. McGowan had some nice tackles. Pittsburgh's passing offense made it hard to see how well he performs in passing situations. If brown is out hopefully green wont see the field.
  16. Great.....(from the trib) First came the loss of safety Mike Brown with a calf muscle that coach Lovie Smith said was "tweaked" at practice Thursday. Then came the news that Brown, in a virtual deadlock in voting for starting safety in the Pro Bowl, could be gone for the rest of the regular season.
  17. he wants the cubs to trade Z for tejada. i guess he hasnt heard that hendry said neither prior or z are going anywhere and that tejada denied he wanted to be traded. ...and then go sign millwood, washburn, weaver to replace Z in the rotation. So basically taking on $20M of payroll, leaving no room for RF or SS. EDIT. Oy too early, Tejada is the SS. No room for RF.
  18. Seconded! Oh yeah. A bird in hand is better than 2 in the bush. And well, this is a BIG bird. I like having a thread with just news on this deal but its going to take weeks for this thing to go down.
  19. Matt Murton meet Michael Barrett. I take those numbers. The doubles projections seem a tad low though.
  20. Bruce, nice article today about Tejada. I just hope that Hendry shares your enthusiasm. Do you think Hendry views Tejada as someone that the Cubs would be willing to part with "untouchables"? http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/sportsstory.asp?id=130468 Oh, I think so. Hendry just should have signed Tejada after the 03 season, and gotten rid of Alex Gonzalez, even if he had to pay him to play for someone else. That move still irks me. Did he even try? You would think he would have had a good shot with his good buddy Sosa still on the team then, along with Alou and Ramirez. Yes, ive been irked too for the same reasons you state. Time to make up for past sins and all will be forgotten. If that opt out clause is executable by Tejada, the Cubs will have 24 or 48 hours to negotiate with him (after the trade goes through) and try and get that removed if it is a problem. EDIT: Or wait, since this is the offseason dont they have more time, like arod and sammy deals.
  21. 1. Bradley 2. Pierre. I dont see the Cubs getting him unless they trade Pie. Hasnt florida acquired a bunch of pitchers with their fire sale. Cubs depth at tradeable players is at the pitcher spot.
  22. 80?
  23. This game is an absolute joke. How did colorado ever win 7 games.
  24. I cant believe im going to say this but.....i miss trev alberts. As opinionated as he was at least i could understand him. Lou comes in from leftfield way to much. Harold reynolds makes me laugh. I laugh at lou holtz.
