This. Plus even at his best he has tended to go on prolonged slumps. Don’t get me wrong, I would 100% support a KB extension. I may shed a tear of happiness if he was extended but I believe despite what he’s said before he wants to test the market, and the market will probably overpay him. At that point the concerns about his ability to torpedo entire seasons with nagging injuries put at least a little risk in a long term mega deal. But again if the Cubs went ahead and did that I would not complain

It's crazy the disparity of picks at this point. Almost through the 4th round and the Cowboys for example have made 7 picks (the first 6 defensive) while the Bears have made 2. That said, the Bears 2 picks are by many accounts extremely impactful and will alter the franchise for a decade

4 of the previous 6 hitters walked. Obviously different pitchers involved but I’m sure the Cubs figured the only way they could score runs was to stand there and hope to draw walks

I mean, you get a fresh set of picks every draft so yes, it is sustainable. Just feel like if you are consistently drafting less year over year than your opponents you’d better hit on a high percentage of your picks. But at the same time, I love Jenkins. I saw mocks that had the Bears taking him at 20. We get him and a franchise QB

I can't stop reading about Fields/the Bears today. This is the most excited I've been about sports in awhile outside of college basketball.

I want to believe Believe baby. The only downside is they disappoint you, which... Hey were well practiced in that art. Sadly thats how I feel but its true. If he sucks, oh well throw him on the pile of failed QBs. Hard to build a winning franchise when you make one 1st round pick in 4 years and that pick is a bust, but oh well. The upside is worth it

Another interesting thought I had about the Bears fortunes. Maybe they find a trade partner besides the Giants and still get Fields, but for the Giants to trade that pick they had to have Philly trade up with Dallas of all teams to take Devonta Smith, who everyone widely believed the Giants were going to take. Maybe if Philly doesn't get Smith they are willing to trade their pick to the Bears, or maybe Dallas is willing to trade 10 to the Bears if Philly wasn't trying to move up. But its still interesting the chain of events that led to the Giants pick being available. I honestly think the Pats were after Mac Jones all along and would have taken him even if Fields was on the board, so I'm not sure if there were any legit threats between 11-15 that would have taken Fields, but I guess its possible a team like the Saints would have traded up if he dropped much farther than 11.

I've read several defenses of that and I've actually seen a scouting report that listed pre-snap reads as a strength of his ...you never know until he gets on the field. I am certainly a little concerned that if this is an issue, I definitely don't trust the Bears to coach it out of him. But I was genuinely surprised they didnt pick Jones when I found out the Bears traded up since he seems to be the opposite. Lacks things that Fields is good at but the consensus seems to be that he is really good at reading the field and going through progressions. After the Mitch disaster I figured they'd go for a safe pick. I'm personally happy they took Fields, definitely the higher ceiling and more explosive playmaking ability. But there have been many QBs that have all the tools and then struggle to pick up the mental side of the game. Defenses are going to be faster, schemes are likely going to be more complex. FWIW Watson's scouting report listed weaknesses with "Field Vision" and "reading progressions". Dak Prescott's were "can be confused with complex defensive schemes" and "makes poor decisions". Josh Allen also had the "makes poor decisions" label. Not quite the same as pre-snap reads but in a similar category of the mental side of QBing. We'll see Herbert had the same “issue” coming out. And not everyone agrees that he’s a one read QB (read the whole article - it’s great and drops a comp to a bigger Russell Wilson): I'm definitely going to read an article that has a headline of "The Chicago Bears pulled off one of the biggest steals in the modern draft era by trading up for QB Justin Fields"
