27 consecutive years of elite QB play....I really hope they enter the QB wasteland very soon. I know they have their QB of the future but he's more likely to suck than not.

I've read several defenses of that and I've actually seen a scouting report that listed pre-snap reads as a strength of his ...you never know until he gets on the field. I am certainly a little concerned that if this is an issue, I definitely don't trust the Bears to coach it out of him. But I was genuinely surprised they didnt pick Jones when I found out the Bears traded up since he seems to be the opposite. Lacks things that Fields is good at but the consensus seems to be that he is really good at reading the field and going through progressions. After the Mitch disaster I figured they'd go for a safe pick. I'm personally happy they took Fields, definitely the higher ceiling and more explosive playmaking ability. But there have been many QBs that have all the tools and then struggle to pick up the mental side of the game. Defenses are going to be faster, schemes are likely going to be more complex. FWIW Watson's scouting report listed weaknesses with "Field Vision" and "reading progressions". Dak Prescott's were "can be confused with complex defensive schemes" and "makes poor decisions". Josh Allen also had the "makes poor decisions" label. Not quite the same as pre-snap reads but in a similar category of the mental side of QBing. We'll see

So the Bears really aren’t going to keep Fields, Dalton and Foles are they? What can the Bears do to get rid of Foles? Can they afford to eat some money and deal him for like a 7th round pick? Also I’m interested to see when Fields starts. Is Dalton going to get the Glennon treatment? I’m thinking so with Pace and Nagy’s jobs on the line. Or maybe Fields even starts week 1.

I was going to say that a balk is an unusual way to score runs, but any Cubs run scored is unusual so

I realize that my desire is partially for selfish reasons of wanting something to look forward to. Logically throwing away a lot of future value to take a QB at least 4 other QB needy teams is not overly smart. But dammit I just want a QB...Honestly, outside of Lawrence, the other 4 have moved around so much do we really know who the 5th best QB of the draft is? QB is such a tough position to evaluate that I feel like any one of those 5 could be a star or a bust.

I just want a QB. There is just no way on Earth that I can get excited about the 2021 Chicago Bears if they don't draft a QB in the first round tonight. Even if its extremely high risk, even if they have to give up a boatload to be in position, I just want a QB. If he fails he fails and nothing has changed. If he succeeds you've solved the most important position in sports for the next decade and can actually start to talk about building a real contender. So Fields, Lance, Jones, whatever just find a way to get one or the only thing that I have to look forward to in the next year of Chicago sports is the Cubs July sell off

I think any trade up is going to be ridiculously overpriced for the Bears specifically. Everyone knows the coach and GM are on their last legs and are desperate to make an impact move. Add to that Pace's love of throwing draft capital way and if I'm a team negotiating with multiple teams for my pick I'm asking the Bears for a ridiculous haul.

lolz It would be an interesting scenario though obviously would never happen. Packers can move forward with Love and can either draft the 3rd best QB or the best non-QB in the draft.

Remember 5 days ago when the Cubs scored 10 runs in the first 2 innings? Well on our way to getting shutout for the 3rd time in 4 games. They’ve also scored 10 total runs in the 4.5 games since that scoring outburst

This has kind of been hinted at a few times this offseason. They were cool with going all in for Wilson, but not so much for an unproven rookie. It makes sense on paper, but the principle of it all is terrible. That being said, Ben Allbright, who seems to be pretty connected says that he thinks Fields may still be on the board into the teens. If the Bears don't feel comfortable trading to 6 or 8, and he could be on the board at 13 or so, I could see the Bears jumping in front of NE to grab Fields and it wouldn't cost too much. That being said, that totally requires the football Gods smiling down on the Bears for the first time literally ever so.... I'm amazed at how Fields has fallen from clear #2 pick at the start of the college football season to fourth or fifth QB on the board. Wilson seems awesome, but he did it for one season against weak competition. Jones seems to have a limited ceiling compared to the other four in his athleticism, and also did it for one season with an NFL roster around him. Lance hasn't played since 2019 and started for one season, too. Fields has had some awful games, but he also balled out against Clemson after taking that big hit. If he fells to 13 somehow I would expect Pace to go up and get him. And I'd be hapy about it. Not sure what it would take to get there, maybe a 2nd and next years first? What is the biggest reservation people have with Fields? I've read something about how he went to his first option like 85% of the time last season or something so there were questions about his ability to go through progressions in the NFL when the defenses are faster and the first option isn't always open like at OSU, but that's about it. Athleticism, arm strength, accruacy all see 90+ percentile. There is discussion about social biases in place and its a fair discussion but anything else from a pure football standpoint that is giving these teams pause?
