  1. I predict that this is the game where the Cubs manage to finally score 6+ runs against the Pirates. We won't see them again until September, so it will be awhile if we can't do it today.
  2. Honestly have not thought a ton about what a new owner could do to the Bears franchise as they’ve always owned the Bears and thought they would never sell.
  3. The Cubs are 6-4 against the Pirates with a -5 RD and 4 of those wins are by 1 run. Despite having the 2nd worst ERA in the NL this year the Pirates have held the Cubs to 5 runs or less in all 10 games. I swear I’m not trying to horsefeathers on the victory, I just thought those numbers were interesting, some of the weird baseball anomaly horsefeathers. Either way the Pirates are due for a pounding
  4. Nice save Kimbrel. Too early to look at standings of course but if the Sox score holds the Cubs will be 0.5 out.
  5. This is amazing. New Era released some new city themed team hats. The choices range from strange to bizarre. The actual pictures look like clip art and the best is that each team has their local area codes printed on the front. People mocked them on Twitter and New era eventually pulled them from their website. But the best part is for the Royals, they listed all area codes in the state of Kansas and did not put their primary area code on the hat https://ftw.usatoday.com/2021/05/royals-hats-new-era-local-market-kansas-city-area-code-twitter I’ll let you guess which ones are real and which are jokes
  6. I was really hoping that coming back to the Cubs would magically make Jake serviceable again. It started out looking good but now his numbers resemble the numbers he had in Philly
  7. I'm really hoping there is a logical non-shitty explanation for this. I guess they did pay for his surgery but horsefeathers at least pay him his meager minor league salary and let him use your rehab facilities To follow up, I was told that if the Cubs put him on the 60 day, they would have to pay his MLB salary during an extended injury. Once he clears waivers and they outright him, they can then pay him a minor league salary and continue to let him use the Cubs rehab facilities. So only somewhat shitty.
  8. Not sure its worth its own thread, and for the old timers don't worry I would never dare start another Injury Thread. I never expected to be anything other than apathetic about Matt Duffy going on the IL.
  9. I'm really hoping there is a logical non-shitty explanation for this. I guess they did pay for his surgery but horsefeathers at least pay him his meager minor league salary and let him use your rehab facilities
  10. Amusing breakdown of what Ross yelled at the ump after being ejected. Honestly a pretty badass undressing by Rossy.
  11. Oh of course, if the team is like 4 games under .500 and 6 GB in July than you do whatever you can to get the best return. If the contracts lapse and the Cubs make a legit effort to resign, i think its unlikely the sign Bryant, fairly likely they resign Rizzo and 50/50 on Javy.
  12. No big surprise because this is Bryant when he's healthy. It will be interesting to see what the Cubs do at the deadline because it looks like they will be right about where everyone figured they would be - in contention in a crowded NL Central. I do wonder if it just makes sense to keep all 3 of them and let them go into FA. Make an honest effort to resign them but if they walk, the possibility of getting a 2nd and 5th round pick for each of them isn't terrible compared to the return they might get at the deadline. I just don't want Bryant to go to the Padres who, as a revenue sharing team, would only net the Cubs their 3rd best pick instead of 2nd and 5th.
  13. RE: the force and tag out at 3B yesterday that was not challenged. I know the Cubs were out of challenges, but couldn't the umpires have decided to look at that play? I feel like it was close enough that the 3B ump couldn't have felt certain in his call. Amazing how poorly that game was umped. Also fun stat, Javy's HR last night was just the 4th HR given up by Reyes in his career spanning 97.2 innings. Pretty sweet.
  14. No idea how they won that game but feels good to beat the Cardinals on SNB!
  15. If the Cubs get through the bottom of the 9th, their first runner on second base for the entire game will be one placed there to start extra innings.
  16. This might be the worst offensive performance of the season. 2 base runners in 8 innings and 22 of the 24 outs were either strikeouts or groundouts, most of them weakly hit. I realize the ump is unbelievably bad tonight but still a terrible performance
  17. This Sosa dude has been really annoying all series
  18. I feel like there was a 2 or so year period where we teed off on Wainwright but every other season he just shuts us down with ease.
  19. And he batted in the bottom of the 6th. It’d still be a little odd to keep him in there if his spot wasn’t due up but it was so it’s even more strange in a tie game. Yes he came up with 2 outs and no one on. Yes he just retired Goldschmidt and Arenado to end the last inning. But I feel like Ross was really pressing his luck.
  20. Some terrible ABs by Cubs hitters in the last couple of innings.
  21. I’m shocked Ross let him go through the heart of the Cardinals order a 3rd time. I’m even more shocked that he came to bat in a tie game in the 7th inning. I love the trust and he’s earned it but I also have seen our bullpen be lights out lately. Even with 2 outs and no one on I would have considered PH him.
  22. I thought we finally got Brian Roberts
  23. The Cubs now have a better run differential than any other team in the NL East or Central
  24. 8 run inning and this is what you post? Lol But seriously 8 runs in an inning and only 1 batter committed an out in the inning. Amazing
