  1. It's done. Sad to see Keith go but it was bound to happen. Thrilled to hear that we may have won this trade.
  2. Never change England
  3. If we aren’t resigning Rizzo, he’s as good as anyone else on the roster to take a leadership role moving forward
  4. No idea what thread this should be in, but USA basketball loses an exhibition to Nigeria in Las Vegas. Nigeria were 30 point underdogs coming into the game. Lavine was in at the end of the game and was fouled with 3.5 seconds left down 3. He missed the first FT and then the second on purpose, pretty much ended the game. In related news
  5. Hey the Cubs have averaged 5.6 runs per game over their last 5 games. That’s pretty decent!
  6. If we just win all our remaining games against the Brewers we’re right there pretty much
  7. Doesn’t context matter though? That 2017 team had just won the WS and still felt like they could go on a run. This team has regressed ever since then, doesn’t hit well or pitch well. (or apparently defend well either). Yeah of course context matters a ton, thats kind of what I was trying to say in parenthesis
  8. 2017 the Cubs were 43-45 and several games behind the Brewers in the Central, the added at the deadline and finished 92-70 and won the division 2021 the Cubs are 43-45 and several games behind the Brewers in the Central. (I am absolutely not advocating being a buyer, its just funny to compare similar situations that are going to be handled in different ways most likely)
  9. Oh look the Cardinals are back to plunking Willson. This time it was a 95 mph fastball to his head.
  10. Of course it shouldn’t happen. I don’t think anyone is okay with it happening. I’m just saying making the team forfeit a game for something one fan did is excessive. Hopefully they can figure out who the fan was that did it and ban him. is it? That play decided the game. Out of curiosity, do you think he would have had a better shot of deflecting the ball at a more advantageous angle or maybe even grab the shot had the laser pointer not affected him? I'm seriously asking because he obviously made the save, but it may have been the case of him guessing right but not seeing the ball well enough to prevent the rebound right back to Kane.
  11. Cubs actually got the call this time Also the Cubs are up 3-0. The team can suck but beating up on the Cardinals is always fun.
  12. Yeah the Cubs just look lifeless out there. They don’t care anymore
  13. Wow that looks like a “we clinched the division yesterday” lineup
  14. Rereading this thread because it was bumped, crazy to see how confident we were in the FO and the club's direction. We thought the magic of Theo would singlehandedly get us Ohtani (and it almost did!). Little did we know that from that point on this core would not even play in another NLDS game and is now positioned for a rebuild.
  15. Hey the Dodgers lost 11 in a row in 2017 and ended up making it to Game 7 of the World Series. Of course when they started that streak they were 92-41 but still lol
  16. I was going to try and find it but I'm just going to go with Aaron Judge's 2017 - lead the league with 208 Ks and had a 8.3 fwar. That’s crazy. Thanks Looking at this differently, there are 27 players all time who finished with a WAR at or above 4 but finished the season with an OBP under .300. Javy at .282 currently, would have the 2nd lowest OBP for someone with a bWAR over 4 since 1910 after Bert Campanaris in 1972 (.278 OBP, 5.4 bWAR) Link to list Just trying to get some use out of my 1 month free Stathead trial :)
  17. uh thanks for your input?
  18. 3 whole runs on Monday, a whopping 10 yesterday and now 3 runs in the 1st inning today are the Cubs finally coming out of their offensive free fall?
  19. Unbelievable swing. Iffy penalty followed by your predictable England choke on the PK followed by the absolute perfect rebound chance
  20. And Denmark has the lead. Hosting the semis at Wembley with your first Euro final berth on the line against a great but slightly inferior opponent, losing would be such an England thing to do.
  21. This game sucked because it ruined the "4 runs or less over the last 22 games" stat AND the "Backup catchers have done nothing at all" stat, and they still got completely blown out anyways.
  22. The beginning of 2014 if you exclude the minors. At least the last two months of 2014 you had Baez and Soler getting called up. If you include the minors, then it goes back earlier since we drafted KB in 2013 and he destroyed the ball right from the start. Yep. Even before 2013 there was a blind optimism that Theo would usher in "waves and waves". I don't think even the most optimistic of us has the same feelings now. This has the feel like the end of 2005 when we knew things were about to crater. Yeah 2012 sucked because we were really just starting the rebuild and had a long way to go, but at least we had the hope and confidence of having Theo building for us. 2013 was better because you could start to see our system really rise to the top even though it was still a few years away. But you could feel the rebuild starting to turn started to see other fanbases start to envy our position having a strong farm and very low payroll that left a lot of room for building 2014 was pretty great even though Mendy and Javy disappointed. I honestly didn't think we were 1 year away but thought maybe 2016 was the year we'd start contending. Our farm system became the envy of baseball and you felt pretty good about a long run of success coming This year feels more like 2010 to me. Bad contracts, poor farm system, haven't even really started the rebuild yet, questions about the owners who were cutting payroll and having difficulty getting funding for the Wrigley renovations. Little hope in the FO who seemed like they were still trying to catch lighting in a bottle and contend by signing guys like Carlos Pena as stop gaps. Farm system had a few players of note (who mostly didnt turn out) but the development system had a poor track record of developing players, especially position players. But the worst thing is that we were still pre-rebuild and werent even sure if the FO was going to rebuild and instead opt to build decent teams but not legit contenders. This team is still in pre-rebuild. Hopefully by the end of the month they will have accepted reality and kicked off a rebuild or a retool or whatever is best for the long term. But I don't have that confidence that I had in the FO back in 2012 that I have now. Jed might end up being solid but we can't just throw all the blame at the organizational stagnation at Theo (Though we also can't give Theo all the credit for building this WS winning core).
  23. The Cubs have been outscored 83-29 in their soon to be 11 game losing streak. The crazy thing is that 5 of the 11 losses have been by 1 run. They just got blitzkrieged in the other 6
  24. If you are wondering whether the Cubs can come back tonight, they haven’t scored 8 runs in a single game since May 29th
  25. As shitty as the nearly 10 ERA Jake has over his last 9 starts is, he’s also allowed 9 unearned runs during that span. Amazing
