Haha figures. Win a coin flip against the Kings who get Luka, win a meaningless game and lose a top 4 pick. Oh well, there’s a chance we suck again next year and will have our pick
Tonight’s Cleveland starter has allowed 9 runs and 15 base runners in 6.1 IP this year. Tonight all 0’s for the Cubs through 2 innings. I’m sure he just figured things out. (Please be a reverse jinx)
That would be a good and fun idea. But my favorite idea is just starting the season with Fields. I actually think Nagy is going to do this [expletive]. He already had this mapped out for Mitch when he was the backup last year. Of course Mitch injured himself on the very first play and was out multiple weeks but I’m sure Fields will be just fine.
Oof Embiid throwing him under the bus postgame: https://twitter.com/rich_hofmann/status/1406817068813635586?s=21 For those that didn’t watch, Sixers were down 2 late, Simmons had an uncontested layup/dunk at the rim but instead inexplicably passed it to Thybulle who was fouled and only made 1 of 2.
They have decent assets particularly quite a bit of expiring contracts. The lack of a 1st round pick hurts though. But if the Bulls zeroed in on him I’m confident we could make it would but it would probably require a 3rd team
I guess just sample size. For someone to be the official all time single season BA leader with 130 ABs seems difficult to wrap my head around. But based on what I've read Negro leagues did not play long seasons. Like I said, I'm open to it and appreciate that this gives me the opportunity to learn more about the Negro Leagues. Just going to take some getting used to. That said, its really easy to look up stats and filter them by minimum ABs, etc if i want to. https://www.baseball-reference.com/leaders/batting_avg_season.shtml Oh wow. Yeah, they probably need to adjust the AB’s per season up a smidge. Currently the guy with the highest single season BA on BR managed to do it with only 57 hits. He only had 121 AB’s that year and only played 30 games. Josh Gibson in second place had 249 AB’s (which is plenty IMO). Third place had 246 AB’s in his season. Negro leagues did have shorter seasons but if you look at their BA reference pages the main issue is missing data. I think their seasons were actually around 80-100 games but we just don’t have the box scores for those games sadly. I was reading about this and unless I’m mistaken it sounds like their seasons were actually pretty short but they played a ton of exhibition games. That’s why the claim is that Josh Gibson had over 800 HRs but according to BR it’s like 150. That’s what it said in the BR article announcing this change
Most baseball teams when they slump they will have an outlier game occasionally where they put together 5-6 runs in a game. The Cubs when they slump it’s consistently poor offense. Trending towards the 7th time in the last 8 games where they’ve scored 2 runs or less. That 8th game? 3 runs scored, aided by a garbage time 9th inning 2 run HR the other night
I feel like I’ve had this discussion about a half dozen times over the past couple of seasons. There’s nothing to do but ride it out because they’ll eventually snap out of it
A (questionable) hit! And another bloop hit! Offense is rolling now Edit: and a grounder through the hole for an RBI single. BABIP gods have taken mercy on us
You’re right they don’t but they’ll defend it with their life if someone criticizes it. At least that’s been my experience. But we already have a pizza thread so
LOL I’ve never met anyone that weird about it. I guess I would roll with it: I’m from just outside Chicago, not within the city limits. …and yes I put ketchup on my hot dogs. Also mayo is way better with fries than ketchup. Chicago is weird about this kind of stuff but I dunno maybe other cities are like this and I don’t know because I haven’t lived there -worship deep dish pizza -no ketchup on hot dogs -don’t say you’re from Chicago if you don’t live in the city limits -can’t like both the cubs and white sox -dibs when it snows (I know other cities do this but Chicago seems fiercely protective over it) -malort
He has historically been pretty streaky and is known to go on these longish slumps. Of course it could be him trying to play through another injury as he has had a couple of scares lately. If it’s that then the rest of his season may be derailed. I do think having guys like Nico and Duffy back in there would help but guys like Rizzo, Bryant, Contreras, Baez, Heyward are the same guys that were apart of several ill timed bad slumps that shut down the entire offense over the past 4-5 years. Then they get hot again for just long enough to trick people into thinking the offense is fixed before the rug is pulled out again. Only this time we don’t have enough starting pitching to help us tread water during these times. To be honest it’s actually a bit surprising that we even have 2 wins during this stretch of offensive ineptitude Seems like Duffy and Hoerner are taking forever to recover from their injuries. Can’t remember how Duffy got hurt but it seemed like Hoerner was gonna be out awhile when he got hurt
