B1G would have to add a 16th school if they brought in KU, no? Do they save another current Big 12 school from irrelevance? Iowa State is in the AAU, for whatever that's worth, but that might ruffle Iowa's feathers. Maybe Colorado if the B1G wants to continue playing Manifest Destiny. This is all to say nothing of the fact that the current 14 B1G schools would definitely be seeing a minor hit to their per-school payouts by adding those schools, there's no way they'd be worth enough not to. They'd definitely add a 16th school and its super interesting to speculate. I would guess though that another Big 12 school is most likely, and one that has some value as a football program and/or like you said has a new territory to offer. I think there are 4 factors: academics, football program (success and revenue), basketball (success and revenue), market There's more to academics than whether someone is an AAU school but its relevant as Nebraska is the only Big Ten school who is not a member. Looking at Big 12 programs, Kansas and Iowa State are the only 2 AAU schools (besides Texas). Football wise, there are no powerhouses there but Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and Baylor are strong programs and generally bring in revenue. Iowa State is on the upswing, TCU and Kansas State have been good recently, but I'd say OK St, TTU and Baylor are on that top tier Basketball is sort of the same thing in terms of historical powerhouses but obviously Baylor is the current national champ, Texas tech was in the title game 2 seasons ago, and the rest of the teams besides TCU are generally strong more often than not. Marketwise...Iowa State is a good 100+ miles from Iowa but they both share a relatively small market. Big Ten isn't getting much traction by adding ISU. Oklahoma State is a little better but still a small market thats dominated by another state school, KState is similar. West Virginia is tiny and near Maryland. The Texas schools though... all bring markets like Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio into the mix so definitely the winners there. If you take all factors into consideration you are looking at Baylor or Texas Tech as the most desirable IMO. But Baylor has some....issues in its recent past that may make the Big Ten look past them.
