  1. Jed is making media rounds this morning. Was on ESPN 1000 earlier and jumping on the Score in 20 minutes or so. Here is what he said on ESPN: Seems like a lot different tone than a couple days ago. The "wouldnt confirm a rebuild or reset" thing is interesting and probably needs additional context to understand what he was trying to say there. Some people on Twitter are saying he was saying this because we don't know the ramifications of the new CBA and how that will change things.
  2. horsefeathering love beating Mexico twice in the same summer to win a trophy
  3. dunno this is basically what I expected. He's shown flashes. He'll either figure it out or will end up a bullpen arm.
  4. Since this is the main thread for the dismantling, has anyone used this site before? I’m not sure how they are calculating values but it’s interesting to look at the trades using this metric: https://www.baseballtradevalues.com/ It has the Cubs winning the Kimbrel, Javy and Rizzo trades, handily but losing the Bryant trade in terms of value given up/getting back
  5. I know the Hawks tweet is pretty obvious but
  6. I don’t know how Wisdom is keeping a decently high OPS. Every time I watch him he is striking out and I think his K rate for the season is 44%. But even if you look at his numbers after that initial HR tear, his OPS is .767 which is nothing special but if that’s his “coming back to earth” performance then maybe he does have a future in the bigs. Don’t think he’s an everyday player or anything but he’s worthy of a roster spot on a good team
  7. The line about the team having no identity - exactly how I feel. Even though the move needed to be made and even if it’s a retool, our most charismatic good players are all gone except Willson. I’m sure in time we will learn to love whoever else we bring in, and they will have their own vibe and feel like our players but for now it’s tough to swallow
  8. Dempster wasn't really that good at that point, think I was hoping for anything Well the Cubs did reportedly have a deal in place with the Braves for a top 50 prospect (Randall Delgado) and Dempster rejected it and the expected return went public. So at that point our expectations were likely skewed. As it was Mike Olt was a fringe top 100 prospect so the return was actually decent value for 2 months of Dempster. It just so happens Delgado and Olt had relatively disappointing careers and a throw in (Hendricks) turned into a stud
  9. The second one was Bote. You can see how close I’m paying attention
  10. Wisdom has already botched 2 plays at first, 1 allowing a run to score.
  11. While it’s certainly possible the Giants were not willing to negotiate with cash considerations, it’s certainly disappointing
  12. You take Jake out of that tweet, and I’m positive someone was just trying to be funny. That’s the real one you throw in there to make it seem legit
  13. From the moment he was drafted, it seemed pretty obvious with Boras as his agent that he was going to test free agency. It would have happened regardless of whether Theo got us that extra year. Agreed, he was always going to test FA, but the service time thing ensured that we would have to be the top bidder to keep him I think. I could be wrong though, people don't usually sign with Scott Boras to take hometown discounts. But I really wish I knew how KB actually felt. The images of him staring out of the dugout, crying when finding out he's being traded, saying all the right things about wanting to be here. But on the flip side he obviously didnt forget about the service time manipulation. He was quoted talking about it in an article earlier this week, so its still on his mind.
  14. This is what pisses me off. Watching Bryant cry when finding out he was traded and knowing that the return was underwhelming. You didn't *have* to dump Bryant. Keeping him gives you at least a better chance of re-signing him, and if he doesn't then the worst case scenario is a comp pick. I just don't know why Jed thought he had to dump all 3 for whatever he could get. *And i like the Rizzo and Kimbrel trades and thought Javy's was ok. But this seems terrible to me. i mean they supposedly gave him 200+ million reasons to stay and he chose not to, it's a business I'm not saying Jed maliciously dealt KB when he wanted to be here. I'm just saying that given the light return (though it seems to look better the more I read about it), it seemed to me like Jed was hell bent on dumping him no matter what. But if the return isn't good, I'd rather keep him and take the slightly higher chance of resigning in the offseason and worse case you end up with a comp pick. When I made that post I felt like KB was dumped when he didn't have to be. But again, I'm coming around a little bit on the return so I might feel differently now.
  15. Cubs roster moves:
  16. getting major leaguers in the kimbrel trade plus a hurt PCA really killed our chances to move up dramatically. I was going to edit it and point that out but the board is moving too slow for me. My point was to show how little the needle moved after trading Bryant.
  17. 6 players from the 2016 Cubs World Series roster were traded in the last 24 hours (Bryant, Rizzo, Baez, Lester, Schwarber, Soler). Another 9 are retired or are not on a ML roster currently (Lackey, Rondon, Strop, T. Wood, Montero, Ross, Russell, Zobrist, Coghlan) That means 6 of the 16 players from the 2016 Cubs who were available to be traded got traded
  18. Per Fangraphs, the Bryant trade bumped the Cubs farm system up from 10th to 9th They still have just the 1 top 100 prospect
  19. edit double post
  20. This is what pisses me off. Watching Bryant cry when finding out he was traded and knowing that the return was underwhelming. You didn't *have* to dump Bryant. 21. The market has changed since 2016. And plus Theo also gave up a boatload for Quintana...its clear Theo was willing to overpay for what he felt the Cubs needed
  22. Not sure what's worse, the return for KB or NSBB's reliability during 3 franchise altering trades
