  1. A true "Derwood" would have been him jumping into this thread after several posts and saying "Hey guys I think we should start the season off right and do a Mad Man gif theme for this thread"
  2. I'd prefer not to but I guess I don't see a huge downside to it either. Mostly just because its the way we've always done it. But I don't read this forum through the individual sub-forums anyways so it makes no difference to me. I know in the past we've had people that were banned or suspended specifically from the GT Forum due to behavior in the game threads, but they were allowed to post elsewhere. Not sure if that matters.
  3. I seriously had no idea that there were this many lurkers reading our posts and finding enough value to keep coming back!
  4. Oh we're breaking out the good stuff for game 1? Opening Day!: Cubs fans at 1:20 tomorrow: Marcus Stroman to the Brewers lineup:
  5. i wouldnt care that much to refuse, but having coached my kids the last couple of years, I prayed that I wouldn't have to wear a Cardinals had during the games. I got Tigers last year and Rockies the year before.
  6. If you refresh the page and then go to the reply box again, there should be a banner above the text box that lets you clear contents. There's probably an easier way to do it but thats the workaround im using.
  7. When I was a kid, I always got the A's. Like every single year, different leagues, different region of the country. And then the one year I played in a league that didn't have league affiliations, I got put on the team with a dark green and yellow color scheme, so basically the A's again.
  8. Is there a way to add spoiler tags to a post? cant seem to find it
  9. My kids amazingly got the Cubs this year...I'm so psyched...always wanted to be the Cubs growing up. Also free Cubs hats!
  10. Dusty said it too...
  11. Can't speak for Andy but 2005 vibes to me means mediocrity, having good players but like you said some ceiling limiting filler. 2005 was definitely more annoying and disappointing than I expect this season to be coming off being 5 outs away from the world series and then the massively frustrating 2004 season. We were heading downward in 2005, whereas this team presumably should be on an upward trajectory with plenty to be hopeful about even if we end up .500ish Edit: I typed this up an hour ago and forgot to click post. I see the conversation has continued quite a bit since then, oh well.
  12. I cant tell you how many times I was searching for a gif on mobile and had difficulty pulling the direct link of the gif so that I could post it. Gifhy in particular was terrible at that....even if you tried to copy a direct link, it was to the page the gif was hosted on, not the direct gif image. This feels like a whole new world opening up for me.
  13. thought this was interesting though it’s almost certainly a courtesy as they’ve been pretty clear about only considering AH
  14. Man it’s still so weird to see Duke Silver, THE Duke Silver, discussing guys like Wesneski and not like Jon Lester. Anyways for Wesneski, make sure to factor into your projections the Cubs have a road trip to Toronto. Are they still keeping out the unvaccinated?
  15. They won 74 last year and probably improved their offense and pitching just not by a ton. I have them at 78 or so but hold out hope that the defense, pitching and contact strategy makes them much better than the sum of their parts somehow. the difficulty with comparing last years win total is that this year we have 10-12 less games against the Pirates and Reds and several of those games will be replaced by good teams.
  16. Supposedly to have an extra adequate bat for late innings who can still step behind the plate. Still doesn't really make sense to me since he's not really a good hitter (for a catcher? ok I guess) and who carries 3 catches these days?
  17. Man I've seen some people get screwed with their post counts following the move, but no one got screwed more than Raisin, our all time post count leader on the old board. Sorry to derail, that just jumped out at me when I saw you post lol
  18. FWIW 2018-2020 was easily Heyward's best 3 year stretch as a Cub. Not necessarily what we wanted/expected out of him when we signed him but he was an adequate baseball player those years. Probably dumb to make this comparison because offensive environments change and there are other ways the latter provides value, but that slash line is roughly what Nico's 90% projection is for this year, posted in @Matt Trueblood's article today (.281/.342/.406) Year Tm G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB Average 108 420 367 55 96 16 3 12 47 4 1 47 69 154 7 3 1 2 2 2018-2020 CHC 324 1259 1100 165 287 49 10 35 141 11 4 140 207 .261 .347 .419 .766 102 461 20 9 2 7 7
  19. Ugh....my wife and I finally left Sprint/TMobile a few months ago. We were longtime Sprint customers and when they finally forced us to switch to the TMobile network we found that we had absolutely no service inside and around our house. Even with a wireless extender it didn't help. I tried to convince my wife to stay specifically for MLB.TV but at the end of the day we had to make the switch. Really enjoyed having it the last 2 years! Edit: Ummm..... I just tried it anyway, and it said it was successful, so maybe I got lucky? I still haven't returned the wireless extender so maybe it till sees me as an active customer!?
  20. Since this completely mirrors the Favre/Rodgers situation, I bet the Packers will tell Rodgers that if he returns he will be the backup, just like they did with Favre.
  21. I'll do it next on Saturday then 🤣
  22. Laura, Vance, OMG, Sulley, GR, off the top of my head. I know Vance posted recently before the board changed over but not sure if he's been back since.
  23. This has gotta excite Packers fans re: Love: Not a horrible quote as he's trying to lower expectations, but not effusive in praise either
  24. We've self-governed game threads for years....just need a sign up thread then you go in order. Poster keeps posting them until the Cubs lose, then the next person goes. You just need one person who can nudge the next person if they forget to post. If there's no post 2 hours before the game anyone can jump in and create one as a guest starter. The main reason I'm pushing this is because there are several of us who have our own styles and creativity when posting game threads (this is gam thread. i am tree) that live on in NSBB lore. Nothing that would upset the advertisers or alienate new members. Also the whole genesis of the gif themed game threads was based on the day's game thread starter.
