Maybe....he's likely going to have to pitch some point today. Might as well have it be when the lineup is full of righties. Lets see if Belli and Dansby can give the next pitcher more cushion

Tied for the highest pitch count Wicks has ever had in a professional game I believe. Can't believe they got him through 5

He looks awful at the plate lately. 6 for his last 48 with 0 XBH. Still walking which adds value but his contact seems to always be weak as hell

Thank goodness Bellinger hit 21, now I don't have to see that the Cubs HR leader is Wisdom (though technically he's still tied for the lead)

When Wicks gets to 2 strikes today hes throwing a ton of pitches in the dirt that no one is ever going to swing at.

And De La Cruz walks on strike 3 Sucks too because hes only able to go 80 pitches or so. Even if he gets through the inning every extra pitch matters

I guess it wasn't just the Brewers pitching that was holding the Cubs offense down. It stinks right now.

That might have been the worst AB I've ever seen from Amaya. Swung at 3 straight pitches a good 6-8 inches outside the strike zone.

I swear every NL Central team hates Happ. Then I looked up the numbers. Career OPS: .798 OPS vs CIN: 1.040 OPS vs. PIT: .985 OPS vs. STL: .928 OPS vs. MIL: .739 So he basically crushes the rest of the Central in his career except for Milwaukee, but now he's starting to make up ground there too 2023 OPS: .781 OPS vs. PIT: 1.133 OPS vs. CIN: 1.057 OPS vs. STL: 1.038 OPS vs. MIL: 1.011 He is an NL Central tormenter

Don't be fooled by Ashcraft's season ERA, he's been on fire his last 11 starts with a 2.39 ERA and held opponents have a .669 OPS against him over that time span. He's gone at least 6.2 IP in his 5 starts too so he's pitching deep into games. His FIP over that span is in the high 4's though so its possibly he's getting extremely lucky, but 11 starts is a pretty good chunk of the season and his worst start in that span was when he went 7IP giving up 3 ER.

I'm confused about that. I thought 60 man IL players didnt count towards the 40 man roster. Not sure how you can throw someone onto the 40 man as an injury replacement for a player who already isnt on the 40 man. Unless I'm completely misunderstanding the rules.

That's not including 60 day IL guys right? Boxberger can still be activated and placed on the 40 man at a later date and be eligible for the playoffs. With today's moves the Cubs are at 39 on the roster, so adding PCA and Little would mean kicking someone off. And then another person once Boxberger is back.

The team was what 5 games under .500 and buried in the WC standings at the break? I think there are a couple of things at play: -Late blooming team so advance ticket sales aren't as strong -Dynamic pricing designed to optimize revenue more than optimize attendance -The Cubs simply aren't the same franchise that could open their ticket booths in mid-Feburary and expect half the home games to be sold out by the time the season starts. Pre-2003, this is basically what Cubs attendance looked like. 2003 brought a surge of fans desperate to see the Cubs end their WS drought and now that they have, attendance is going to be a little more elastic. Their attendance floor is still pretty damn high, I only see 1-2 games after April that were below 30k in attendance and they were just below 30k. Maybe that doesn't explain everything, but just some thoughts. Personally, I'd probably go to 5-6 additional Cubs games per season if the ticket prices were more like they were in the 00's and early 10's. But if it is going to cost me $300 minimum to take wife and three kids to the game, I'm only good for a couple games a year.

So both the Kris Bryant trade acquisitions have made it to the big leagues with the Cubs. PCA and Alcantara still trying to make their way up. Only Vizcaino is gone from those 3 trades. -
Gotta say I did not expect a comparison to white privilege to be in an article about Kyle Hendricks and luck 😂. The comparison works though.
