    I was actually thinking about how tense the players have looked lately, and wanted to go back to the 'never let the pressure exceed the pleasure' manta Maddon had, but then I remembered 2019 lol. Dude had no way to stop that avalanche

    POR 1st (lottery protected through 2028), then the next 1st they can trade is 2027 I believe. They don't own a 2nd round pick until 2028 either.

    What would be hilarious is if the Bears fell in love with Eberflus and hired Poles over other candidates partly because he was on board with/would have hired Eberflus anyways.

    I think they're obsessed with their top guys playing all the time. Dansby used to play 162 games with them even though they had clinched stuff. Olson hasnt missed a game this year. We'll see but it feels like they don't care about rest - after all they are going to get 5 days of rest while the WC round is played. Maybe my brain doesn't want to accept the difficult position we're now in but I have a feeling we win today and the Marlins lose. The race has been too topsy turvy to end like this right?

    Last week of the season in 2008 I remember we played a series at Shea Stadium against the Mets. The Mets were solidly in the playoffs at one point that month but were in the middle of a collapse. The Cubs had clinched the 1 seed and HFA in the NL and had absolutely nothing to play for. It was also the 2nd to last series of the season. I think the Cubs took 3 of 4 that series and I remember laughing and making fun of them throughout for being unable to win when everything was on the line for them and nothing for us. I guess this is payback lol

    You do realize that tied for the Cubs in this case means 1 GB right? Like they can win the rest of their games and not be in. I think they can still make it....I'd put their odds at about 30% at this point. Edit: Also I think that was sort of what you were trying to say? Honestly your posts have been so bizarre lately I cant really tell lol

    I've railed on Poor Tom Ricketts for year but I don't think its a Jerry Reinsdorf sort of situation where an extremely unlikely set of circumstances need to occur to go into the tax. They will go into the tax next year most likely. I'm one of the most cynical sad sacks in this place but I feel fairly confident in that.

    The Cubs have played in 50 games since they acquired Cuas. He's appeared in over half of them (26). That's unreal

    Kind of funny that it took the Cubs going 6-12 in an 18 game stretch to blow their WC lead...how bad do you have to be to win this horsefeathers?

    Everyone is cooked in the pen, thats why they blew the 4.5 game lead and why they're losing these games. They've apparently lost 5 games this month with a lead in the 8th or later which is tied for their most in a month in 50 years.

    Guys they’re tied with 4 games left despite blowing 2 painful games. It’s gonna be ok. Just have to take care of business and hope the marlins lose

    So glad I didn’t follow literally anything today. Much easier to just see the score and say oh well. Feel bad for those who had to go through that pain edit; out of curiosity though which one was more painful?

    Until Moore says f- this and demands a trade to a team with a real QB, but yeah there's logic behind that.

    I saw some report from Peter King last night that claims that Poles has never been on board with Fields as their QB of the future and is not going to give him a ton more rope this year. I was too pissed off about the Cubs game to post it last night and now I cant find it lol. If King's report is accurate, seems like something Poles camp would leak right about now to distance himself from Fields and give him a chance to pick his own QB after the season.

    Technically both AFC teams in the divisional round would have to have better records than the Bears and both lose in that round since 26 is the 3rd best record of a divisional round loser so its a very narrow path. Almost certainly this scenario would involve a WC playoff win.

    Yeah its really weird that Ross brought a guy he doesn't trust literally at all as a hitter right now into the 4th inning of a game. Also weird that he came in as a pinch runner...maybe its a positive sign that Ross is showing trust in him but it led to him getting picked off for the 4th time in just a handful of games (one he managed to get a SB out of), But as a hitter, you knew he was going to come up at least 2 more times and you knew you were facing a historically great offense and theres a decent chance more runs are needed. Tauchman has also been red hot at the plate lately so your removing that from the game. He's an average baserunner and slightly above average defensive player. I dunno, I think the Cubs will keep Ross no matter what, but his in game management issues are glaring.

    lol 26th means that the Bears managed to get to the divisional round of the playoffs and lose. That means they either won a playoff game for the first time in 13 years or they pretty much went undefeated from here on out. Chicago sports owners have won, they've totally trained the fanbases to prefer tanking over success.

    Everyone will get over it quickly. There are some bad reactions on twitter tonight but when people come to their senses its plainly obvious that it was an unfortunate mistake that only put an exclamation point on a very bad 3 inning collapse. I really hope he can shake it off. Last thing we want is for him to start pressing (definitely looked like he was pressing in the 9th trying to hit a HR to atone for the error).

    Any truth to the rumor Leiter fell down the Springfield Mystery Spot? I don’t understand. He’s not hurt enough to put on the IL, but they want him to pitch under no circumstances even in situations where you are forced to put Palencia or Wesneski into a critical spot of a game? Are they just working with him behind the scenes to figure out his splitter again? It seems like if his splitter isn’t working he’s unusable but how did it get so far off track?

    That really sucks. But also selfishly I hope he can put it behind him quickly. Gotta turn the page and continue being the all star caliber player the last 2+ months
