    I don't see Maddux being wanted. Rising ERA's his last 3-4 years, getting really roughed up as of late, and pretty much a given for $9 million next year. Maybe SD would take him because of their ballpark that doesn't allow as many HRs. But the way Maddog has been pitching I'm not sure that Petco is large enough to contain his misguided curveballs.

    The Marlins have one more series in August (I think 9-11) at Wrigley, and I believe the Braves still have to visit Wrigley again. Wouldn't mind 84-85 home games this year :)

    In that same Trib article, it said that they wouldnt have Hairston play LF because it was too hard of a position to learn or something.

    If by good offense in 2003 you mean by watching the likes of Hee Seop Choi, Bobby Hill, Alex Gonzalez, Lenny Harris, and Damian Miller all in the starting lineup at the same time, well then yes, by all means we had a good offense. And Randall Simon, Tom Goodwin and Paul Bako on the bench. My Lord, how did we get anywhere? Pitching, Sammy Sosa, and Aramis Ramirez. I don't think Aramis did too much in the regular season. He only hit in the .250s and had average power. It wasnt until 2004 when he started playing like a stud (2001 notwithstanding)

    Agreed. There were a lot of interesting swings this year pertaining to All Star balloting. Obviously the Pujols/Lee (this guys great but this guy is even better this year) was intreaging The NL SS which went from Nomar to Caesar to Eckstein AL OF where a grassroots campaign from Red Sox Nation got Johnny Damon in the game.

    I don't think a SP is the White Sox pressing need. In a 7 game series Buerhle, Garland, Garcia, Contraras is still extremely formidable. I'd still take Prior, Zambrano, Wood, Williams over that but the margin is lessening day by day

    I'm not sure, Lee has some competition from Corey, seeing as each of his 12 HRs are solo. Lee probably has a few more but not by much

    none of the cardinals starters should be there. the outfield should be abreu in center and Carlos and Miguel on the corners. Felipe Lopez should be at SS. Aram or Morgan Ensberg should be at 3B. What a farce. Are you referring to Carlos Beltran? He has been pretty average this year. If you're keeping guys at their positions, the OF should be Cabrera, Andruw Jones and Abreu; if you're playing guys out of position then put Jason Bay or Abreu in CF. I don't have as much of an issue with Edmonds starting because he has at least been good this year and hasn't been much worse than Andruw Jones. Rolen is not even close to ARam, David Wright or Ensberg (the latter two got left off) and Eckstein is way, way behind Felipe Lopez. Even Bill Hall deserved to make it ahead of Eckstein. Cesar Izturis doesn't belong on the team, either. I'm assuming by Carlos he is talking about the one playing in the far north Chicago suburbs.

    My bad, I was doing a spot start while at work, so I didn't bother to look up any of my info. I thought I heard something about 3 road NL east series, but I must have misunderstood 2 road series and 1 home vs. Wash

    The 4th of July has come around and it finds the Cubs continuing to run in circles. After an 8 day period which saw the Cubs win 4 in a row and turn around and lose 4 in a row, the Cubs look to put a 2-4 homestand behind them and go back on the road to take on three of the tougher teams in the NL, the Braves, Marlins and Phillies. It starts tonight as Kerry Wood makes his second start off the DL, returning to the place of his greatest triumphs as a pitcher, namely Games 1 and 5 of the 2003 NLDS. Also in his last start in April 2004, he dominated the Braves striking out (I believe) 11, and at one point had 6-7 K's in a row (at work, don't have time to look up the numbers). He will go up against the rookie Kyle Davies. Not much is known about the youngster (from me at least), but he has put up respectable numbers in his brief stint in the majors.     Nomar could be sounding genuine because he knows if he remains a fan favorite in Chicago, he can get the most money from the Cubs this offseason despite yet another disapointing year.

    Despite what I put in my prediction entry for NSBB, I had a feeling this team would be a .500 club with no bullpen, one of the weakest OF's in baseball, and an overall injury prone team. They just don't have it this year, and I think being buyers is a bad idea. I'd almost rather be a seller, so we can find out our keepers and people who should leave. Fire Baker, trade away Burnitz, Corey, Remlinger, etc. to contenders, find a way to play some youngsters full time and get ready to suprise a lot of people next year. It sorta worked in 2002 when we got to give Corey, Zambrano, Prior, Jobo, etc a lot of playing time which led to more confidence in the team we had going into 2003. Even if we make a trade and play better, I just don't see the 2005 Cubbies winning the World Series. I don't think this is the year. Wait until next year has more meaning every additional year, but I think next year can be our year if we play it right
