  1. Albert is turning into a jerk. A jerk with a World Series ring though
  2. Haha, if the Padres give up Adrian Gonzalez for Manny, they get whatever comes to them. I'm not sure that I'd give up Peavy for Manny to be honest...but maybe I'm just around Red Sox fans too much.
  3. Bruce, any idea on whether the Cubs will let him play winter ball? I know they said they weren't too fond of the idea...but will they at least entertain the idea. Obviously there are pluses and minuses to both sides. I'm guessing it won't be a huge deal because if it was, he wouldn't have signed with us without getting the OK
  4. Seattle can't be the favorites until they learn to tackle and play better D. Seeing SA run for over 200 yards did scare the crap out of me though
  5. Bruce, you are such a buzzkill today :)
  6. Source: http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors Hendry will bid 4/60 soon. Would rather have written off 2007 and given our stable of 4A pitchers a chance to earn a rotation spot, then evaluate and address needs in the offseason. Sadly that ship has sailed(sigh). Was there even a ship to begin with? Outside of Hill, our current crop of youngsters ain't too pretty. I'm thinking some of them will improve, but do you really think any of them until Veal and Gallagher would improve THAT much? I don't know, but it would have been nice to find out. Not having humongous bubble-year contracts on the books for the next half decade would have been cool too. Hopefully you weren't one of the people saying "please I don't care what you have to do, just win a World Series" during last season. Look the fans want to win now, and that is what the management is trying to do. I know its completely short sighted and we'll regret it, but within reason, I'll worry about the future in the future. In terms of our 'crops' of pitchers, I saw enough of that last year.
  7. Rumor was also picked up by SI.com http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/baseball/mlb/11/28/schmidt.cubs/index.html Wow they seem pretty certain that the offer was made But the article goes on to say that:
  8. This has been mentioned, but just wanted to say that ESPN's rumor mill picked up the 3/44 rumor: Source: http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/features/rumors
  9. Don't forget Cotts is hoping for a chance to earn a spot in the rotation too... This is not a bad thing, Marshall, Marmol, Guzman and Mateo could use more seasoning in AAA anyways.
  10. Yeesh, 5 years seems like a lot. He's what 34? Do you really want to be paying a 39 year old $15 million a year? I guess we aren't really thinking about 5 years from now...just win me a world series.
  11. Westbrook for Dempster and Marshall? Too much? Too little?
  12. I have a bad feeling about this game. Vikings 20 Bears 17
  13. You're referring to Jamar Williams out of ASU. Still gotta take a Day 1 OLB if Briggs is gone, preferably 1st-2nd round. Didn't they take Dusty too/
  14. Bingo. Let's see how they look next week before pushing the panic button. They did a nice job coming back after the Miami loss. Did we really expect them to go undefeated; to sweep 3 straight East Coast roadies? Grossman has his issues; but let's wait and see. Agreed again. The Grossman haters will ride hard this week, but really, what can you accomplish by playing Greise? Greise was there as a BACKUP in case Grossman got hurt. Until that time I would be very disappointed with the coaching staff if they listened to the talk radio junk and benched Grossman. Grossman is the future, and he's showed a hell of a lot of promise in his first full year. We took down two tough New York teams, and lost to one of the best teams in the NFL, and a 3 time Superbowl QB. Their defense is stellar, and they were playing at home. I'm not saying there weren't things that went wrong, but I'm very far from the panic button. Preach it. Seconded He showed a lot of promise his first 5 weeks, and since then has mostly sucked
  15. I've decided... Lovie has a great PLAN...but if things don't go his way, hes a terrible terrible coach.
  16. The Headline in the Boston Herald yesterday "Pats look to Wreck Rex" Oh its on.... I'm on my way to the game, go BEARS!
  17. Thats right guys...17-14 the last 2 weeks! With that I'm now only 30 games under .500 for the season :( Taking this week off BTW
  18. I would tape Sorianos name over the Baker. Voila, you have a Soriano jersey
  19. So your saying we're screwed Fred?
  20. Man I fear every week that the injury bug is going to hit us....it's unbelievable how fortunate the Bears have been the last 2 years.
  21. :-s Yeah yeah yeah, you know what I mean
  22. Interesting....that number probably won't be enough for him. The Cubs are probably hoping that they can come in and swoop up Zito while everyone else is concentrating on pitching. That said, I'd rather had Schmidt.
  23. what is your point? how about this Lee 04 OPS 125, IsoD 61 05 OPS 110, IsoD 59 06 OPS 125, IsoD 55 Soriano 04 OPS 98, IsoD 44 05 OPS 110, IsoD 41 06 OPS 135, IsoD 74 (go ahead and take away the IBBs, it's still a vast improvement in an area Lee is getting worse at) not sure why K/BB ratio is in the discussion. we're not talking about pitchers and I thought the general view was strikeouts are not a strong consideration amongst those with the sabr mindset. Just presenting the facts that Soriano and Lees production is a lot more similar than people think. The K/BB tab on the comparison was just random, I was scrolling through all of them looking at the differences. I really don't get your point though. So you are saying that Soriano had one fluke patience year because he was hitting in front of Felipe Lopez/Jose Vidro/Royce Clayton and Nick Johnson/Jose Vidro? If you do isolate out his IBB from 16 to his normal 5 or so, then that takes his IsoD down 10 points give or take a few. So on the whole you are saying that his patience is worse than Lee's, right? 2006: Lee - 27.2 VORP Soriano - 48.2 VORP 2005: Lee - 24.7 VORP Soriano - 39.5 VORP Soriano is vastly superior
  24. Did they just say that Plummer is done as the starter?
