  1. Wow, every time I check back to the score, the Rockies have scored again.
  2. Man we could easily be 2-3 games up right now. Oh well, just win tonight and I'll be happy.
  3. 4-0 Rox! Damn, I'm not looking forward to facing them this weekend, especially with them missing Z
  4. Rox have a good chance of blowing this game open early. Looks like Yo finally hit the predicted wall.
  5. Before anyone says anything, no more left handers.
  6. It worked for Lou earlier in the year, why not? Standing pat certainly isn't working.
  7. Yay, now the speculation of who is going down. Options: -Ronny Cedeno -Eric Patterson -Matt Murton
  8. He was the main part of the propsed Jermain Dye deal at the dealine, but it fell apart. Hes been horrible this season, however, when with Cincy, he was a notorious Cub killer, and basically homered every time he stepped foot in Wrigley. Exactly why we won't get him. The Red Sox won't trade him unless they get major league talent in return. Who could we trade for him?
  9. Marlins (VanDenhurk 6.75) @ Phillies (Moyer 4.84) - 6:05 CST Dodgers (Hendrickson 4.55) @ Reds (Arroyo 4.72) - 6:10 CST Braves (Carlyle 4.20) @ Mets (Perez 3.00) - 6:10 CST Padres (Peavy 2.30) @ Cardinals (Reyes 6.07) - 7:10 CST Brewers (Capuano 4.86) @ Rockies (Hirsh 4.91) - 8:05 CST Pirates (Gorzelanny 3.55) @ Diamondbacks (Owings 4.91) - 8:40 CST Also of note: Nationals (Bacsik 4.19) pitching to Bonds starting at 9:15 CST Go Marlins, Reds, Mets (ugh), Cardinals (double ugh), Rockies, Pirates and Bacsik!
  10. Should be receiving about 17 votes from my office in the coming hours. Good luck Vance
  11. 13th in the league in HRs overall with 88. Here are some HR paces: Ramirez - 25 (previous high: 38) Lee - 18 (46) Floyd - 7 (34) Jones - 3 (27) Soriano - 27 (If healthy) (46)
  12. 1 HR in his last 32 games. Should we be worried?
  13. Please get rid of Floyd. He IS NOT GOOD AT BASEBALL
  14. I remember going to a game in late 2004 at Wrigley when he was given the award for Cubs Minor League POY. He looked so happy to be there, and looked like he was ready to make a quick rise to the majors. Unfortunately, that was probably the peak of his career with the Cubs.
  15. Scary for who? Just scary because of the universal hate for the Yankees and how far they've climbed back from the bottom of the AL.
  16. In scary news, the Yankees are 6 outs from tying the Tigers for the WC lead.
  17. Kendall has not been our problem of late.... Now that we won't be seeing Reyes and Castillo at the top of the line up it will be even less of an issue... I'm not going to complain when someone has a .957 OPS over his last 9 games, but it sure would be nice to see him throw one of the 19 baserunners that have attempted a stolen base on him since he came to the team.
  18. I don't understand it at all. Look, I like Wood, he's a nice guy. He has pitched some great games, he was so compelling in 1998, and he almost single handedly got us our only postseason series win since 1908. But I don't understand the attachment to a guy who has 71 career wins and has made only 30 starts twice in his career. I know people are latching on to what he was, a dominating rookie with an unhittable slurve, a fireballer with a 96 MPH tailing fastball, etc. But to call any part of Kerry's career the "Wood era" would be selling short the disappointment that is/was his career. What don't you understand? When he's healthy, he's one of the best pitchers in baseball. He's the type of pitcher you pay to watch. When he takes the mound, you can feel the energy. Some players have that charisma, some don't. As for having 71 career wins? What does this have anything to do with what he's meant to this org? I'm just saying that 71 wins represents how disappointing his career is/was. Fantastic pitcher, great guy, great stuff, tons of heart. I appreciate that about him. But to say that there ever was a "Kerry Wood era" seems misleading, when he was barely with the team half the time.

  20. If Lou would pencil Murton in the lineup everyday with Soriano out he will produce enough to offset Soriano's loss. Based on numbers from a down season by Soriano and a statistical stretch of mostly meaningless games (from a team standpoint) over 2.5 months by Murton. However, I do agree Murton should be the starter here, I am just in a gloomy mood and feel like trying to beat down everyone's arguments.
  21. Lets look at the things that have been better than expected for the Cubs this year: -Starting pitching has been much better statistically than expectations -Unexpected contributions from youngsters at 2B, SS and RP have allowed the Cubs to fill holes that appeared throughout the year -Although not statistically significant, the team has showed improving plate discipline Now lets look at things that have been worse than expected: -Power, power, power. Despite having 5 players on the team that have hit more than 27 HRs as recently as 2005, the Cubs are 12th in the NL in HRs. This has led to a very underwhelming runs scored totals. As many noticed, the Cubs recent run was led by a number of close games and one run games. Fact is, we got a slight boost in offense, and our pitching remained consistently good, so we started winning games. -Injuries. All of our big three have missed time. I guess I could not be lazy and find more, but you get the picture. We have had some things go unexpectedly our way, and some things that have gone unexpectedly not our way. We are about a 5-10 games over .500 team over the course of the season.
  22. That's a pretty poor extrapolation. First of all, Ramirez missing the rest of the season in that case is 5 weeks. That timeframe puts Soriano back for the last 15 or so games plus the playoffs. Also, the Cubs were way out of contention by late August of 2005. There was no reason for Ramirez to come back to play 5-10 meaningless games. And in fact, I remember that ARam was close enough to returning, that there were mumblings about him possibly being available to pinch hit that last series of the season against Houston. I remember thinking that Dusty was an idiot for even considering it, but you know of course that he was adamant on making sure that he always played his best guys for the integrity of the playoff race.
  23. Well he played 4 games in a row I think before this, and with the travel to Houston, he may sit.
  24. That would offset the loss in speed and his throwing arm. Their actual defense is probably a wash. Positive thinking, but there is no way Murton gets the PT. He can't even get in the game against a lefty when we lose an OF mid-game. Our best hope is that Pie is called up and hits like he did the first week after he got called up the second time.
