  1. Nice post, but I have to ask. Who are you, and what did you do with UMFan83? Haha, seriously. Hey come on guys I'm trying here. Glad you noticed haha. Seriously, wow. I think you just got tired of the optimists complaining. Whoever those douchebags were. Nah, I told you all that most of my extreme pessimism comes during or immediately after games. Not that I'm a huge optimist the rest of the time (79 win prediction in 2007, 83 win prediction in 2008), but I am definitely more rational and levelheaded.
  2. From Will Carroll's chat: BTW, Soriano was 0-2, BB, K, R in his rehab start today before being pulled for a PH in the 6th.
  3. Wait....from Will Carroll's chat:
  4. Looks like Soriano's day is done. He was lifted for a PH in the 6th. 0-2, BB, K, R
  5. I don't know who this Willis guy is, but he needs to stop making the last out of the inning in front of Soriano. If only the Cubs could go 21-5 over a 26 game stretch. That would put us at 79-45
  6. I actually have no idea who I want to win at this point. So honestly, I'm not going to watch the game because either way I'm going to be pissed off at the result.
  7. Trying to figure out if DHing is a good sign or a bad sign that he might come back tonight. It could be good in that Lou doesn't want him to tire so he can play a game tonight. It could be bad because they are expecting him to rehab for a couple of days and are telling him to worry about only hitting today. Tonight? Seriously? There is no way the Cubs organization would try to play him in 2 games in the same day after being out for 6 weeks. Everything I have seen points to a thursday return. Small chance of possibly wednesday. *Edit* Just saw Lou's comments. I still say it would never happen though. I personally think he'll be back Wednesday

  10. Well, let's look at Durham's numbers the last few seasons. This year: 293 .385 .414 Last year: 218 .295 .343 2006: 293 .360 .538 2005: 290 .356 .429 2004: 282 .364 .484 2003: 285 .366 .441 What he's doing this year looks right in line with his last few years excepting last season. He's getting on base a little better, slugging a little less. When he performed so poorly last season, most assumed age had caught up with him. But looking at his performance in the first half this year and comparing it to his other performances, I think he'll stay pretty close to that level. It's a good deal for the Brewers and if Yost is smart (hint: He's not), then Durham would supplant Weeks in the line-up. Well thats what I'm saying. His 2007 numbers aren't just like a slight deviation from the norm, they are a collossal dropoff. Why did he play so poorly in 2007? There is no explanation.
  11. Does anyone realize that at the end of this series, we finish a 44 game stretch where we -played 29 road games and only 15 home games -missed our All Star LF almost the entire time -missed our ace for 2 starts -missed our closer for 10 games -played 6 series (5 on the road) against teams that currently occupy playoff sports Our record in that span? 22-19 (with 3 to go). After this, we play 26 of our next 39 at home, and only 2 series (both at home) against teams that currently occupy playoff spots. Oh and we'll have our All Star LF, closer and ace back for most if not all of that time. My guess: we will without a doubt have at least a 5 game lead going into what looks to be an impossible September
  12. I hope he plays just so he can say he played in a rookie league/major league morning/evening doubleheader
  13. Psh, his HRs don't go nearly as far!
  14. Wasn't a bad outing because he didn't get hurt. Wasn't a good outing in that I doubt he will provide much contribution to the team this year.
  15. Lee last 30 games: .361/.437/.504/.941 Theriot last 10 games: .477/.511/.523/1.034 Edmonds last 22 games: .254/.398/.634/1.032 Fontenot last 16 games: .370/.473/.804/1.277
  16. Ramirez last 17 games: .145/.233/.355/.588 DeRosa last 15 games: .204/.295/.370/.655 Soto last 10 games: .205/.220/.385/.605 Fukudome last 18 games: .179/.247/.269/.516
  17. How does Durham go from .218/.295/.343 last year to .293/.385/.414 this year? This move reeks of Matt Lawton to me. Remember how excited we were to get a leadoff hitter with no pop and a decent OBP that year? That didn't work out too well for us. Matt Lawton with Pittsburgh that year .273/.380/.433.
  18. Rickie Weeks?
  19. It's funny how Soriano has been out for 6 weeks, and he's only 2 HRs behind the Cubs team leader. It's amazing how much Lee and even Ramirez lost their power stroke. If you remember, Ramirez only had 27 HRs last year, and this year he's just about on that pace. That's a nice total, but he used to be a 35-40 HR hitter. (Yes I realize he never hit 40 in a season but he had a couple years where only injuries prevented that from happening).
  20. 1030 Arizona time = 12:30 Central right?
  21. And 500 in his last 8. Still crap obviously, just pointing out how big of a difference one game can make. .500 what? OPS?
  22. What's a man got to do to get some praise on this board? .278/.374/.530 8 HR 14 2B in 151 AB this season. Those are some solid numbers. Mike will not be a full timer anytime soon with the Cubs with DeRosa on the squad, but he might make an interesting matchup guy, with DeRosa moving around to 3B, and the OF on days people need rest. Career his OPS vs. LHP is .596 and his OPS vs. RHP is .825. Definitely a valuable guy to have off the bench. I was pretty dispointed when he made the team coming out of Spring Training, but I think this man has proved he is a major league hitter.
  23. There is rumblings that Soriano might be back tomorrow if he fares well in Mesa in the morning. Lou said it was 25/75, but hey I like our odds. We need to come to play every day. With the Brewers/Cardinals playing the next 4 games, someone is ready to gain ground every game.
