Anyone realize that Backe gave up more ERs than outs today? -
Marquis sure looks much more comfortable with a 7 run lead than he does with a 1 run lead.

The only thing that scares me is, that if the conditions are ripe for the Cubs to score 11 runs, they might be ripe for the other team to match.

I was just thinking. Putting the best singles hitter in the league and the best double play threat in the league back to back in the lineup was probably not a great idea.

We really need to win this game. Can't go into the last leg of the homestand at 3-3 against the Cardinals who are playing well. Also, after that series we have to go into our house of horrors in Miami. Meanwhile, the Brewers are playing the Nationals and Padres. Not on the ledge yet, but on a scale of 1-10, I'm getting to about 3 on the worried scale.

Rickie Weeks' typical second half surge is right no cue. .278 .376 .443 .819 in his last 23 games. Not great, but better than the .207 he was hitting before this streak.

Looks like the Brewers will win again. 6-3 on a Kendall 2 RBI single. Only 7 more consecutive games vs. last place teams for the Brewers after today.

Seriously??? The only way I can see this ever happening is if you're 10+ beers deep and just left one of his random good games. That's how I wound up with a CPatt shirt a few years ago... Hell, if you're that eager to waste $20, I'll take it. I may have been intoxicated and thought it would be a great idea last year to buy one and wear it when he pitched here last season. Baseball reference reminds me that was July 26, 2007. JM went 5 IP, 6 H, 6 ER, 4 BB, 2 HR. We, uh, lost. I think they have a different meaning/signifigance here....I wear mine to my softball games a lot...Its fun to get a rise out of all the STL fans How does wearing a Marquis jersey get a rise out of fans? I'm sure they are so upset to get rid of a pitcher with a 6+ ERA his last season in St. Louis.

Leadoff double...Joey Votto goes to a 3-0 count. Dusty gives him the green light. Votto grounds out. He obviously doesn't want his 2 hitter clogging up the bases for the heart of the order.

wut? why would the 4 division winners all be mediocre or bad? he's talking about certain division races, not all the teams being mediocre-bad. chances are that one of the divisions would be pretty bad. in the scenario bukie posted, you'd have the royals, rays, rangers and expansion team in the same division. before this year, you'd need about 72 wins to take that division. in the nfl, this format can work - though let's remember that they still have 2 wild card positions - because all the teams are on a level playing field when it comes to payroll. in mlb, the yankees and red sox have higher payroll capabilities than any other teams in the game, and since payroll has a positive correlation with games won, they're also likely to win the most games. putting the two teams most likely to win the most games in the same division is inherently unfair. i'd only support going to 4 divisions if they expanded the playoffs to 6 teams - which isn't something i'd like to see. personally i like the current format. Who cares though. With the way the scheduling is now, being biased towards divisional matchups, this seems more logical than the current setup anyways. I always thought it was stupid to have a Wild Card when teams are playing unbalanced schedules.
