  1. Wow imagine if Slovenia wouldn't have scored that late goal against Algeria...it'd be 2's across the board in this group.
  2. I've only been 75% watching, has their goalie even made a save yet?
  3. I think Slovenia is the best beneficiary of a tie here. If they tie, they advance with a draw against England. OR if they lose to England, the US has to win to knock them out.
  4. If the USA would have won today, and the UK/Algeria game ended in a tie, I think the US would have already clinched a trip to the knockout stage... Edit: no wait, an Algeria win over the USA and a Slovenia or UK win would leave the USA tied with Algeria for the runner up spot, or if USA lost and Slovenia drew, they'd all 3 be tied with 4 points. Gah
  5. do you have evidence of the contrary? Just that Mali isn't really know for its extremist muslum population. And since most muslums are just peaceful people who believe in Islam and have no reason to hate, I just don't see how likely it is for an extremeist muslim to grow up in Mali and decide to exact his revenge on the Western devils by reffing football matches in hopes that he can one day work a World Cup game that the US is playing in so he can purposely botch the game in the opponent's favor. I don't think you have to be an "extremist" to hate the US, and you don't have to plot your entire life to become the ref in a match you can screw them in. I know you are just humoring the argument and so am I, but yes you could hate the US and not be an extremeist, but then it has nothing to do with being Muslim. What reason would a Muslum in Mali have to hate the US? The US sends a crapload of aid down there and has been doing it for some time. Islam doesn't = hate USA as you know. He could just not like the US, but it has nothing to do with being Muslim.

  7. They have a lot of speed it seems like. They could get it into England's side of the field pretty easily, but England really pinched them to the outsides or just flat out stonewalled them once they got that far. Against the US, I could see them breaking down the mediocre American D and getting some attempts
  8. lol, this guy I work with is trying to make the argument that because Mali is primarily an Islamic country, the ref has an anti-USA bias and was trying to blow the game.
  9. A tie here, especially scoreless, would make it pretty easy to advance with a tie by USA and a tie in the UK/Slov game.
  10. What was a bigger blown call for the US? Today's phantom foul, or the non-handball call at the goal against Germany in 2002. Obviously the 02 call was bigger being in the QFs...
  11. Is that Edu making his run at the goal in the upper left corner?? And again with more proof that he didn't foul anyone before/during the free kick. Are guys blind?? Can't you see Edu's hand on that Slovenian player's back?!? He might as well have clotheslined the guy with that kind of contact. I can see why the ref ignored all the other fouls and chose to make the one on Edu.
  12. On a side note, my boss just walked out of his office carrying a vuvuzla or whatever that buzzing thing is. He said he ordered it directly from South Africa lol
  13. Not today. Well, maybe in a "England can demoralize Algeria so it makes it easier for us to roll them and proves we should roll them" sort of way, but if Algeria can get anything out of this game it would be nice. A tie this afternoon means the US is through with a win of any margin against Algeria. If Algeria ties, they still have something to play for when they play the USA. I don't know what's worse...an Algeria with something to play for or one with nothing.
  14. OK from the time Donovan kicked the ball to the time that the ball was stuck by Edu was probably what 2 seconds, maybe 3 at most? So in that time Edu had time to foul someone, then get up to full speed to kick the ball in? Unless it happened before the ball was kicked.
  15. Clapping in general is stupid. Making a slapping sound by banging your hands together is so barbaric. I wish they invented some sort of instrument that created some sort of buzzing noise for situations like this.
  16. Let's not forget the gutty performance that got us out of a 2 goal hole and back into contention for a trip to the knockout round. Now a win will get us pretty good odds of advancing. If England wins its last 2 games and we win our last game, we're in. That's probably the most likely scenario anyways. If England loses to Slovenia and we win, we're in too. If England ties slovenia and we win, we have goal differential to worry about and it comes down to who beats Algeria by more.
  17. Well....it could be a lot worse
  18. How much time will we have when this guy comes off the field? A minute? 30 seconds?
  19. Just because our country could occupy yours in a matter of hours doesn't mean you have to screw us over in soccer. geez.
  20. Was that a bad enough call on that goal that it's going to be a big story after the game??
  21. Play for a tie or try to keep the pressure on? I think we have to play for a tie and hope england beats Slovenia and we beat Algeria. Holy [expletive] this is awesome.
  22. ORGASM!!
  23. dammit...good attempt
  24. OK when you've handed out like 4 yellow cards to the same team in like the last 10 minutes, doesn't that tell you something about how the other side is playing? The refs don't want to kick anyone out of the match.
