    It's becasue the GM is delusional. Cohesion is worthless without talent. You aren't going to get a line playing well just through coaching and playing together every week. It's that myth that has kept Olin Kreutz the most important part of this line despite playing the least important position on the line. You can probably make an average line pretty darn good under the right circumstances, but you aren't going to make a crappy line great just by hiring a new coach. And in the age of free agency and salary caps you can't just rely on cohesion to make you good. Guys are going to leave and fresh bodies have to be resupplied constantly. The goal should not be to have the same starting 5 week after week, the goal should be to have the best 5 lineman you can find. That whole thing is agonizing but the bolded is particularly nauseating. There's the problem. Should have kept Pace. Omiyale stays at LG. Garza at RG. Williams at RT. That line wasn't good, but it's because the same 5 only was together for 10-12 games! So what happened in the situation of Tait-Brown-Kreutz-Garza-Miller? They played together for i think 3 years and got progressively worse! Is what Lovie is saying...incorrect?

    Why? It's kind of weird for a former Cub to be playing in the playoffs and he actually has considerable postseason experience. This is his 5th playoffs and 6th playoff series.

    I'll always remember how fricken awesome he was the first 2 months of 2008 when we got him. After that though he never was the same but showed flashes. When he was on he was right up there with 2003 Prior in terms of dominating performances

    Cincinnati doesn't look like a good bet to erase the NL Central champs 9 game playoff losing streak.

    I just posted the Yahoo site...there are plenty of hockey journalists out there who believe the Hawks will defend the Cup. I think come playoff time when depth is not quite as important(unless there are a lot of injuries) and the Hawks young players have a season under their belts they will be a very tough team to beat. I havent seen a single hockey journalist that has predicted that the Hawks will repeat. I've seen maybe 1 out of 5 pick the Hawks to win the central. I don't even think I've seen any pick the Hawks to win the West. Granted I've only looked at maybe a grand total of 25 different predictions but still.

    Texas is 3 outs away from their second playoff win in the history of the franchise.

    No one's gonna argue that the Hawks are going to keep going without missing a beat this season NUN. Depth is a huge factor in hockey, and its one of the reasons the Hawks were as good as they were the last 2 years, especially last year. They easily have enough talent to be a middle tier playoff team, and as far as the playoffs go, there's a lot for us to learn before we can determine that.

    Not really...the Bears really fucked us by cutting Alex Brown and deciding that anderson was going to succeed with Peppers on the other side. All those moves were done after Gaines died. I'm not saying that didn't suck, although I have no idea how much he could have actually helped. But it came down to the Bears thinking that with Peppers drawing double teams on the other side, Anderson would be able to succeed at a cheaper price, and decided they didn't need Alex Brown in that situation. Nevermind the fact that the Bears could have easily had both with no cap. It was just them being frugal after spending a crapload on Peppers and it's biting them in the ass.

    I don't see how that is true Well Cubs payroll is supposedly going to drop slightly, so we have to probably shed a little excess salary to fit Dunn in there, unless we don't plan on making a lot of other moves (bullpen, 4th-5th starter, bench guys, etc). Cubs are probably set on an OF of Soriano, Byrd, and Colvin next year and it wouldn't make sense in their minds to keep a $10 mil 4th OF. If they can save some money by getting rid of him they probably will. I'd prefer to keep him but that's how I see it playing out. He was their most productive OF this year. They may be stupid enough to pay him to play elsewhere, but there's no reason why they "might have to". You and I might not see a reason, but I am going in with the assumption that the Soriano-Byrd-Colvin OF is greatly preferred by the Cubs, regardless of who was more productive. Even if it wasn't, the fact that Fukudome makes more than Byrd and Colvin would have probably swayed them when they went through the roster looking for ways to save money.

    Doesn't really justify the signing, but I heard on the Score yesterday that the only reason Grant was "released" from his UFL team is because him signing with an NFL team was imminent, and this was the quickest way to get him eligable to sign with an NFL team coming from the UFL. So it was a gentleman's agreement with him and his old team that got him released. Also, Grant was actually in route to Nashville to sign with the Titans when he heard the Bears were interested. He determined that the Bears gave him a better shot to play so he decided to sign with us instead.

    I gotta say, I am very disapointed in the Blackhawks box set. The quality of the videos is mediocre at best. Its in standard definition, which I consider unacceptable in 2010, especially when we clearly know there is an HD broadcast out there. The videos themselves are just the original broadcast of the game. There is absolutely nothing else to the set, no bonus features to be found, and all of the games except for the Cup clincher end abruptly moments after the game ends. Bottom line, these are YouTube quality videos and I could have paid less to download better quality videos of the games on iTunes. I definitely feel like I wasted my money and hope I can convince you to not make the same mistake I did. Stay away.

    This move pisses me off so much. Why in the hell couldn't we keep Alex Brown? Because the Bears couldn't afford Peppers and Brown. Fine, Peppers is great...but why not just cut Anderson in the offseason? GSDGSDRHRJS

    True, too young, mostly too young, who, and true. It's hard to hate a team that has been completely irrelevant as long as I've been a big fan of baseball. Since they've been in the same division as us, they've won 2 NL Central titles, 1995 which was maybe the first year I really cared about baseball, and this year. Before that they were in the West and didn't really mean much to me. Oh, suprised Joey Votto and Marty Brennaman didn't make your list. Edit: Oh....mario Soto

    I don't know how Orton can't be considered good. His last 2 1/4 seasons, 1 being with Chicago: 08: 58.5% Comp, 6.4 YPA, 18 TD, 12 INT, 5 fumbles lost, 79.6 Rating Notes: Pretty mediocre season overall, but higher than expectations. Bears receiving options and o-line were fairly mediocre to below average. Numbers were higher before a high ankle sprain injury halfway through the season that he came back from early 09: 62.1% Comp, 7.0 YPA, 21 TD, 12 INT, 2 fumbles lost, 86.8 Rating Notes: Numbers up across the board, but in a better offensive system with an elite WR and decently good Oline. Note that again, his numbers started out higher and dipped the later half of the season, although no known injury as an excuse. 10: 67.2% Comp, 8.1 YPA, 6 TD, 3 INT (Projects to 24 TD, 12 INT), 0 fumbles lost, 96.3 Rating Notes: Another fast start. Will be interesting to see if he fades again in the 2nd half, but those are some solid numbers so far. WR options are notably worse this season, probably similar to what he had in Chicago in 2008 (Brandon Lloyd was on both squads). No running game to speak of.

    I guess it all depends on what is going to be out there this offseason. When does the labor agreement end? I'm assuming between the draft and the start of FA? No doubt in my mind that OL is the number 1 priority on the team, and the team should probably draft at least 2 or 3 lineman in the draft. But whether its a 1st 2nd and 3rd or a 2nd 4th and 5th, depends on how everything plays out. I'd be pretty disapointed, but not surprised, if one of our first 2 picks wasn't a lineman.

    Is it bukie that usually analyzes the football outsiders stats? I am interested to see how the Bears Oline is rated this week.

    If he wins a World Series with the Reds, it really doesn't justify that I was incorrect in my evaluation of him. It just means they got really hot come playoff time and were lucky enough to not be in many situations where Dusty's decisions would kill them. I'm not actively rooting for the Reds, but I wouldn't really be devistated if they won a WS with Dusty. I'd prefer they not but, not enough that I'm rooting against them with a passion. Plus it probably pisses off the large contingent of Reds fans that inexplicably hate us to see Cubs fans not strongly rooting against them.

    Yeah, Flames, why was this a better deal than expected? What were you expecting, a max contract? And who breaks their fall with a closed fist? He's probably referring to the rumor that Noah was holding out for 70 million originally

    That's kind of a weird comment, isn't it. Because with concussions I'm pretty sure everyone is going almost solely off what the doctors say, not what coaches obervations are. And Lovie doesn't mention the doctors at all in that quote. So if it's just Lovie saying "There's no visual signs, that I can tell" then no disrespect to him -- but what he sees doesn't really matter. What does the doctor say? That's what pretty much everyone is going to want to know. I read this and have to wonder if a doctor had actually looked at him or if the coaching staff yanked him. Later in that article, Lovie mentions that they are willing to get and "specialist" to look at Cutler as Cutler would request. idk, I wonder if the staff just said to hell with getting him killed and pulled him. I listened to his press conference, and Lovie sounded like he had no idea about the new concussion rules. I think with all this new stuff known about concussions and the NFL making sure they enforce the rules, it would eventually come out if Cutler didn't really have a concussion.
