  1. Van Gundy (think it was him) just said that tonight allows Kobe to jump over Magic for greatest Laker ever. What the hell did Kobe do tonight that convinced you he was better than Magic?
  2. Sorry, not as cool as the Stanley Cup.
  3. Those are the most bizarre locker room hats that I've ever seen. Retro.
  4. Wow Artest giving one of the best post championship interviews ever. Credits his psychologist and then remembers to promote his new rap album. Bizarre.
  5. Hopefully the Slovenia men's football squad is not inspired by those clutch FTs by their countryman.
  6. For the love of God please miss 1 FT.
  7. I have thought about this and this is my theory: The Cubs have a pretty decent starting pitching staff and a bullpen that is somewhat stabilizing (at least 8th-9th guys). They can stop good and bad offenses many nights. However, their offense is putrid. They cannot score runs against anyone. So what we see is that these sub-500 teams get just enough offense to win, while the punchless Cubs can't do anything to come back. The same things happen against good teams. Sample size is the reason they've won a few more against the good teams.
  8. This probably deserves its own thread but this is a scenario I just thought up... If you could choose to either: completely clean out the front office, including manager, gm, baseball ops, etc and replace them with your own handpicked guys that fit the values that you are looking for OR completely clean the entire 25 man roster of the Cubs (lets stop at 25 for this argument), and could rid yourself of all contractual obligation to every single current Cub and were allowed to spend $140 million building a new 25 man roster. Which scenario do you think would lead to more LONG TERM success? Remember if you choose A you have to start the scenario with the current Cubs roster and if you choose B, you have to have the current front office managing this new team after you've built it.
  9. It goes on sale July 20th and for the first time ever the NHL is releasing it on Blu Ray as well!
  10. Actually it began 3 hours ago when the posts above were made :)
  11. I guess I just don't see the big deal in UM/PSU/OSU in the same division. I mean from Michigan and OSU's perspective, they already have to pay both those teams in 8 out of every 10 seasons. They already have to compete with those 2 teams for Big 10 and National titles. And while you might not get any UM-OSU, OSU-PSU, or PSU-UM conference championship games, there are more than enough good potential title opponents in the other division IMO. I think the worry that it would be like the old Big 12 North is legitimate, but I don't think Wisconsin and Iowa are better 2-3 teams than Missouri and Kansas State. Nebraska = Nebraska Wisconsin > Missouri Iowa > Kansas State Illinois > Colorado Minnesota = Kansas (maybe slight edge to minnesota) Northwestern > Iowa State But of course I'm wearing Big 10 homer glasses.
  12. I really like Bolland. And I think you trade the guys who get you the most in return, not necessarily the guys you think you can most afford to lose. In that case, we should trade toews right away. If we package him with Keith we might be able to get a great haul of cheap replacements
  13. Any truth to the rumor that Lou met with the A's manager Geren about skipping the top of the first inning and allowing the game to start in the bottom of the 1st down with the score A's 2 - Cubs 0?
  14. I would agree though that having Bolland as the #3 center is possibly depth that we can't afford to have considering Bolland is probably a #2 center on many teams.
  15. I'm sorry I cannot in good conscience take Buff over Sharp. I realize the value that Buff brings, but Sharp is simply a better and more consistent player. Also you said the roster doesn't include Brouwer, but Brouwer is in the projected lines. Why couldn't Keith have won the conn smythe grr. Re: Sharp vs. Buff - if the cap hits aren't that far off, how can you take buff over Sharp Last 2 seasons: Sharp: 51 G, 59 A, 110 P, +30 Buff: 32 G, 33 A, 65 P, +0 Postseason: Sharp: 18 G, 15 A, 33 P, +9 Buff: 14 G, 11 A, 25 P, -6 That's not enough to justify Buff's ability to play mediocre at defenseman.
  16. I don't know the answer but I'm assuming part of it is padding (try stopping one of those lightning fast shots without some padding).
  17. I heard one of the beat reporters for the Score yesterday or the day before and he said that one person management is really high on is Chris Williams. They claimed that his improvements were the biggest personnel improvement of the offseason in terms of an individual position getting better. So we got that going for us. That plus Omiyale playing LT all year instead of being moved to a position he sucked at and the OLine should at least be marginally better, depending on how much Kreutz is planning to decline.
  18. Would have been deeper if we weren't cheap and didn't dump Alex Brown. Being deep is good, but not when you still have a lot of mediocre starters.
  19. That's what I was wondering. Isn't July 1st the day that other teams can sign RFA's to offer sheets? And I'm pretty sure I read that the Hawks cant match offer sheets if they are over the cap. So shouldn't some moves be made before 7/1?
  20. Hmm...I would hope they'd match that too. A first round pick is good no matter what, but definitely less valuable when it comes from a team that expects to compete for the Cup. I don't know if there's any way we can match that...we'll see though. I love reading other team's FA predictions...obviously they act like homers just as we would. On a penguins board, one poster thinks they should sign Hammer for 3 years 2.25 Mil cap hit, and then trade their 4th line center Max Talbot and a draft pick for Sharp.
  21. As opposed to the type of fun that Kane likes to have right?
  22. This would have been an enjoyable win if there wasn't that giant Toyota sign stealing everyone's fun in LF.
  23. Good to see the back-up getting a start. Hill needed a day off. I'm sure he'll be back in after Soto is slated to come up in a key situation and Lou needs to go to his bench.
  24. gah, my bad thanks.
  25. I don't think it really matters geographically as it applies to Colorado. It's 900 miles from every original Pac 10 school (basically the closest Pac 10 school besides Utah is the distance from Chicago to New Orleans driving) Provo, UT - 502 MI Tempe, AZ - 882 MI Tucson, AZ - 922 MI Los Angeles, CA - 1,038 MI Pullman, WA - 1,142 MI Eugene, OR - 1,226 MI San Francisco, CA - 1,268 MI Seattle, WA - 1,300 MI Corvallis, OR - 1,305 MI Based on this, it makes slightly more sense to put them in a south division with the LA and Arizona schools. It would save around 400 miles of travel to play at ASU every other year vs. playing at Oregon State every other year. But either way it's far away.
