Even if they had the 20th best offense in the league they’d win a lot more. But over the last 7 weeks they’ve statistically had a bottom 3 offense in the league, arguably the worst. you could have 5 cy young winners in your rotation but if you have the 30th best offense and the most blown saves in the league and the most base runners thrown out on the bases in the league you are going to lose a lot of games. -
353 foot flyout that probably would have won the game if it landed. That said it was only hit 91 mph and had a .110 xBA

So the Cubs are going to lose because one of the Cardinals worst hitters hit a home run on a hit that had a .080 xBA and that was too much for us to overcome. Got it

Sad that I feel more confident about Happ, Nico and Busch coming up than I was about Morel, Bellinger and Seiya. And I have no confidence in all with Nico right now.

Should have horsefeathers stole 3rd. Worst BA in baseball over the last 7 weeks. You have a guy in the game that is 12-12 on SB. They already threw back to 2B twice as Bellingers AB was going. I understand Bellinger is your cleanup hitter but the whole team can’t hit just horsefeathers get him to third and hope for a productive out, which is exactly what Bellinger did. But of course the heart of the order failed and the Cubs are on their way to yet another 1 run loss with virtually no offense

For the billionth time our catchers come up in a critical spot and fail. Dansby had pitches to hit in his AB and couldn’t put them in play knowing a pitcher quality hitter was up after him so I blame him.

this offense is dogsh!t I know they've had some small peaks during the stretch but overall a .638 OPS as a team over their last 45 games. Offense is down this year but league average is still .700. Though as bad as that's been, there are still 2 teams worth a worse OPS for the season, the Marlins (.632) and White Sox (.630)

Pages' HR seems to have broken statcast. It doesn't have an exit velo or distance, it just says the xBA was .080

I didn’t watch today so going through baseball savant to see what I missed. The 4 hardest hit balls of the day were all by the Cubs and those 4 batted balls produced 5 outs 1. Morel - 109.2, .450 xBA, groundout 2. Suzuki - 106.8, .890 xBA, lineout 3. Hoerner, 103.5, .530 xBA, groundout 4. Tauchman, 103.5, .420 xBA, GIDP Actually the Cubs had the 6 hardest hit balls, luckily 5 and 6 were both singles. But as ****** as the Cubs have played, it seems like they’re also getting super unlucky. edit: that said Happ’s HR would have only been out in 2 other parks so I guess some luck there.

Starting pitching has done its job again and then some. But here we are in the exact same situation we are in every game, bullpen has to get outs with no margin for error otherwise we lose because we can't horsefeathers hit.

Holy heck, I honestly haven’t been paying close attention in terms of who is pitching for the opponents the last few days because I’ve been trying to avoid watching them. Yesterday’s starter had a 5.13 ERA this year coming into the game. Today’s starter is a 12 year veteran with a 4.51 career ERA. They combined for 14 innings, 5 hits and 0 ER.

All season even when things were bad we could say "at least we aren't digging as big of a hole as last year". Well the 2024 Cubs have a 33-37 record after 70 games, matching the 2023 Cubs. Lovely.

About 2/3rds of their active payroll is going to 6 players: Dansby Bellinger Happ Seiya Taillon Hendricks They've combined for 3.6 fWAR this year. Though in terms of how they rank on the team they are 5th (Swanson), 3rd (Bellinger), 7th (Happ), 6th (Seiya), 5th for pitchers (Taillon) and...23rd (Hendricks).

My post was dripping in sarcasm, its actually the opposite. The Cubs are supposedly a large market team playing in a division with minnows and cant do anything about it. The rest of baseball should be complaining how unfair it is for the Cubs to play in a division with a bunch of small market teams but they have no reason to.
