    Another reason for the Nats is that they will supposedly be losing one of the best starters in the league sometime in mid-August when they shut Strasbourg down for the rest of the year.

    Its both good and sucks that the deadline is coming at a time when the Cubs are playing so well, heavily led by the starting pitching. Obviously its more good than bad, as it might increase what we can get for them, but for selfish reasons, I've really enjoyed watching the team as of late and it will suck to go back to what we saw in May.

    Love em or hate em, you gotta respect how successful the Lakers have been. They've made the playoffs in 59 of their 64 seasons, they've finished over .500 in every season except 4 since 1967, they've been to the NBA Finals in almost exactly half of their seasons in the league (31 appearances in 64 years). You could make an argument that 6 of the top 10 players in NBA history played a significant part of their careers as a Laker (Magic, West, Kareem, Wilt, Kobe, Shaq). It's just incredible how much they have dominated the NBA throughout the history of the league.

    Ahhhhh, you're just bitching because you keep pretending like the 90's never happened. Or the 80's, for that matter. Or the 60's. Ahh for the glory days of the 1970's, when NBA Finals games were on tape delay.

    Funny that 2 NFC North teams are 2 and 3 on the list. Guess it makes sense if you consider the fact that the North drew the AFC South and NFC West this year and a 3rd place schedule in the Bears case. Impressive that their numbers show the Bears that good though.

    This would suck if it happened. Not sure how legit Pro Hockey Talk is but it is affiliated with NBC Sports just like Pro Football Talk I believe. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2012/07/15/report-blackhawks-dangled-bolland-in-offer-for-luongo/ I mean yeah Bolland is a 3rd line center and love him or hate him Bobby Lu is an All-Star goalie. But the Hawks are so thin at center as it is. Plus I'm pretty sure the entire Canucks team, front office and fans hate Bolland with a passion.

    He looks a bit skinny in that photo. After all the drama Briggs and Forte created about their contracts, they both end up locked up and remain Bears.

    There are several possibilities -While it's been said that we're willing to eat a big chink of salary, perhaps not enough to get the return that would make it worth while. It would probably take us eating 95%, or at least 90% of his remaining salary in order to get a return that would make it worth paying as much as we'd end up paying him to play elsewhere or -The fact that it's been so heavily stated that we're agressively trying to move him, other teams may feel as though they have leverage , and while there may have been some decent offers,we'd rather wait until the deadline to hope that interest picks up unless someone gives a great offer. -they could be waiting for the right time to put him thriough waivers in hopes that someone's crazy enough to put in a claim, and if not, try to trade him one he clears. Dammit to whoever already used the 'in conclusion, Libya is a land of contrast' joke recently.

    That's completely my thought. His walk totals have improved during this stretch. I don't know if he's flat out overhauling his hitting approach but if there was a season to experiment and not care how productive he currently is, it's this one.

    I keep telling myself that even the worst teams will have mini stretches of success over a 162 game season but it's now been 15 games. Im certainly not saying the Cubs are a playoff team now but they are clearly playing improved baseball overall. There's luck involved and some inhuman starting pitching but quietly the pen has improved a great deal. I'm not sure if the offense is actually better now because it seems like we are winning a lot of 4-1 type games but it's getting the job done.

    I either want to aim for 70 wins this year or clinch the number 1 pick. But I'm not really willing to watch the Cubs start sucking again so 70 wins it is. Just need to go 35-40 the rest of the year. Currently on pace for 65-97. But as I said at the top of the thread we've played at an 81-81 pace over the last 40 games.

Maybe he could control it but that still doesn't mean he wants to completely immerse himself in that situation just like I'm sure most recovering alcoholics dont want to be around people drinking and enjoying alcohol all day. Ok social anxiety is not at all similar to alcoholism but still.

    If the Cubs can win this, they will be 20-20 since May 27th, which was the date they snapped their 12 game losing streak. .500 ball for a quarter of the season is fairly respectable for this bunch.

    Chris Sheridan is saying that he's hearing the Bulls will match Asik. In fact he says every RFA offer sheet signed will be matched except Landry Fields.

    maybe it wasn't during the ncaa tournament, but by draft time rose was definitely the consensus #1. No it wasn't. I remember on draft night, the front page of ESPN.com had a Bulls logo with a picture of Rose and Beasley in the background. I seem to remember it being 95% Rose 5% Beasley on draft night. ESPN might have put that up there but if anything they were trying to bring some drama. Immediately after winning the lottery it was maybe 55% Rose but as stories came out about the Rose and Beasley workouts with the Bulls, more and more people were convinced or tipped off that Rose was their man. I recall having absolutely no doubt who the Bulls were picking as it was being announced.
