  1. I feel like thats the same exact thing we said about Braun in his first season at LF.....except with him it was true.
  2. I don't see any reason why the Sox would release him unless Prior asked what his chances were to be on the Sox roster in September and the Sox told him it wasn't gonna happen so he asked for his release. If Scott McClain and Bobby Scales can chill on AAA rosters well past the time where they will ever be considered potential contributors, I don't see why Prior couldn't.
  3. SF has the coldest average high temps of any major continental US city in the summer. Dude was raised in the Dominican Republic. Maybe he doesn't want to play in 60 degree temps most of the year.
  4. Not so shockingly, the Bulls drop from 1st to 8th over the last 2 editions of ESPN's weird Future Power Rankings thingie.
  5. Well he's said repeatedly basketball is his entire life, and he has the perspective of someone in their early 20's
  6. I'm going with 11-5, leaning more towards 12-4 than 10-6. I dunno, it seems like we always talk about where this team is weak and lacking and yet the Bears are 18-8 in their last 2 regular seasons with Cutler (14-5 in their last 19 games). This team certainly has talent and coaching. Cutler looked like he was making the leap before being injured last year, the offense is shifting to a style that puts less burden on the O-line, the defense is still kicking and has some interesting young players who can break out. The last time Lovie's job was on the line he took the team to the NFC title game. And I havent even mentioned the improved receiving corps and offensive depth. I have a pretty good feeling about this team.
  7. This year, with Harper as a rookie and Strasbourg in his first full year, is almost certainly the only year the Nationals will be good, so they should pitch Strasbourg until his arm falls out.
  8. I give Derwood an A+ in this thread. Very entertaining.
  9. I wasnt paying attention, when and where did Chris Williams play?
  10. I don't like their return either....wasn't anyone offering potential lottery picks? And the picks are protected? That said, they didn't want Bynum because they were convinced he wouldnt resign and they would lose him for nothing just like Shaq, and almost like Dwight. They want to do a complete rebuild and were interested in younger players/draft picks, which makes what they got in return that much weirder.
  11. I rather enjoyed my skyline experiences. Montgomery Inn Boathouse, on the other hand, was awful. You guys suck. Skyline is awesome for fast food. It's not the best representation of cincinnati chili though. The ribs at Montgomery Inn are amazing too IMO. Those are the only 2 good things about Cincinnati. The funny thing is about the Boathouse and the original Montgommery Inn is that people in Cincinnati take out of towners there to sample the best culinary delights the city has to offer. My fiance grew up in Cinci so I go there a couple times a year and everytime we come her family makes sure to make a reservation at Montommery Inn because that's just where you go for a top notch dinner for special occasions. It's delicious but if it were in Chicago it wouldnt be within the top 20 restaurants I'd want to take someone from out of town to. The people there are........interesting to say the least. And the skyline is terrible and embarassing for a mid-sized city.
  12. Castro's last 37 games (Since June 24) .197 BA (28-142) .259 OBP .338 SLG .597 OPS But he does have 12 walks in that timespan while only 8 in his first 71 games this year. I'm convinced a big part of this slump is Castro working on his pitch selection and overall patience. Right now he doesn't look like he knows which pitches to swing at.
  13. I have a feeling that Jackson won't be in the lineup tomorrow. Kid needs to clear his head. Embarrassing.
  14. There we go Vitters. Fantastic AB, working the count and getting a pitch to drive.
  15. Not only are the Cubs sucking but Castro is in a horrific slump (0-18), Rizzo is in a slump (.142/.167/.250/.417 in last 7 games (30 PA) and .247/.290/.424/.714 in last 22 games (93 PA)), , Jackson has been terrible and Vitters barely plays. Literally nothing good coming from these games.
  16. Who knew that Paul Maholm, Geo Soto, Reed Johnson and Ryan Dempster were keeping this team afloat (relatively speaking). Haven't won since they were traded.
  17. This is what passes for a good pitching day, I guess. Especially knowing that Volstad or Coleman won't be the TBA for Iowa.
  18. Damn, Castro's OPS down to .723 for the season.
  19. I believe most teams stay at the Marriott on Harbor. Damn, when I was in SD 2 weeks ago, that's where I stayed but unfortunately, the Padres weren't in town (ended up renting a car and driving to Anaheim for an Angels game). That hotel was really nice though.
  20. I just listened to his interview on the Score from earlier today. He was quite annoyed that this story has blown back up in his face. What'd he say? At this point, I really wonder if he even had a source or juat threw some [expletive] at the wall. He said that in the post-trade deadline press conference, he asked Theo point blank if Dempster was allowed to listen in on the phone calls to the Dodgers and Theo said "Some things are better left unsaid". He was saying that several other reporters got the same impression after the PC (but he didnt name any). He also said on the Score last Friday, Jed actually said that Dempster was "listening in" and kept asking the guys to find the tape. They did play the tape earlier in the day and Jed did use those exact words. Oh and he strongly implied that Jed tore him a new one after the story came out and Theo flatly denied the story being true.

  22. And the Bullpen randomly reverts to their pathetic performances in April. 0-5 since the Malholm and Soto trades kicked off the trade deadline deals. Blah. At least Rizzo and BJax kicked ass.
