    Wow how many top 10 prospects have Theo and co. acquired since taking over? Rizzo, Soler, Almora, vizcaino, who else? He's done a terrific job rebuilding the top end of the farm, even without seeing the first returns on this draft class.

    This is silly, the White Sox spent less than the Cubs and got less out of it. Fine they won the world series but the fact that it took the Sox another 3 years to make the playoffs again with very similar teams (but adding Thome and subtracting Rowand) while their payroll skyrocketed, says to be that the crapshoot worked in favor of them that year. It's a pretty silly argument because both teams track records over the last decade are probably worse than other teams that spent less than them (Twins, Cardinals, etc.).

    Wow, that is so weird that I had to check BR myself....crazy that he got MVP votes in 6 different seasons that he didn't make the ASG. I remember Frank Thomas finishing 2nd without making the All Star team once which was bizarre but 6 different times is just insane. And you can't necessarily blame it on being a slow starter, as he had a career .932 OPS in the first half and an only slightly higher .969 in the 2nd half.

    I love how the White Sox were supposed to rebuild this year and they have a little success and all the sudden they are back to making a ton of deadline deals like they do every year. I guess the playoffs are a bit of a crapshoot but they seem to fall in the trap where they are just good enough to compete for a playoff spot every year but not good enough to be a serious contender.

    Ugh I think that's 6 losses in a row to St. Louis. As much as 2006 blew, it was slightly enjoyable watching the Cubs kill them that season.

    It bothers me because the Cubs can only do this at home. If this game was at Busch, it'd be 6-0. What is that even supposed to mean? Not that this is a great record but they are 6-7 in their last 13 road games.

    It's amazing how similar that looks to Trout's season so far. Less HR and RBI, but more runs and (i'm assuming) more SB. That probably has to do with the fact that the Angels have him leading off instead of middle of the order.

    Who would you say had the best offensive rookie season in MLB history? Without really doing a search I'd assume Fred Lynn or Ichiro because they won the MVP along with ROY but its possible if not probable that someone had a better season but wasn't given the award. Anyways... Fred Lynn 1975: 605 PA - .331/.401/.566/.967 162 OPS+, 21 HR, 105 RBI, 10SB-5CS, 103 R, 47 2B, 7.1 WAR Ichiro 2001: 738 PA - .350/.381/.457/.838 126 OPS+, 8 HR, 69 RBI, 56SB-14CS, 127 R, 34 2B, 7.5 WAR Trout 2012: 351 PA - .356/.413/.606/1.019 183 OPS+, 16 HR, 49 RBI, 31SB-3CS, 74 R, 20 2B, 6.2 WAR Trout 2012 with Lynn's PA: 605 PA .356/.413/.606/1.019 183 OPS+, 28 HR, 85 RBI, 54SB-5CS, 128 R, 35 2B, 10.7 WAR Trout 2012 with Ichiro's PA (more realistic because they both led off): 738 PA - .356/.413/.606/1.019 183 OPS+, 34 HR, 103 RBI, 65SB-6CS, 156 R, 42 2B, 13.0 WAR 156 runs scored would be the most in a season since 1936. The thing that just really sends my awe to another level is that not only can he produce just a shade under Pujols in his prime as a 20 year old rookie, but he also just happens to lead the league in SB and is stealing at a 92% clip.

    I was in LA for work on Monday and went out of my way to go to an Angels game because I had to see Trout. He's actually kind of made me cheer for the Angels lately. I should say that I managed to snag him on my fantasy team when he came up so I love him even more than most. He's single handedly saved my season.

    This is quickly turning into a discussion around what Dempster can/can't do! The last two times a Cubs player had an on-field tirade and was grumpy about it to the media, there was a retirement shortly after. OK Zambrano was only threatening to retire but still....either way the player didn't remain on the team much longer.
