    Well that was...completely expected. It certainly would have made more sense before we traded Valbuena. But obviously if the plan for the future is Bryant in LF, Baez at 3B, Russell at SS, Castro at 3B or something like that, then its good to get him prepared for that. Just not sure who plays 3B this year assuming Russell isn't coming up until September at the earliest.

    Is this what I keep reading about on twitter about Dan Bernstein's comments? I cant find what the comments were. Sharp hasn't been having a great year, and they will probably move him in the offseason, so I could see them trying to fetch a couple of pieces for him (a top 2 D-man and a prospect? Or is that too much for a 33 year old wing?) and bring up Teuvo to replace him (not on the same line but his spot on one of the lines).

    Twitter consensus is that they're setting up the salary cap for a trade. History has shown that Stan will go out and get a defenseman when he needs to with decent results. Campoli was decent until he coughed up the turnover that led to the OT winner against Van. Oduya was an integral part of the 2013 run. I think we'll see Erixon to IR or waived before the deadline. Cuminsky lasts until TVR returns unless they need to add his salary to equation. All this means that the Hawks could now get a D man currently making ~$3 million provided that the other team is willing to pay half (which is the max) of the remaining cap hit. Without capgeek it's hard to know for sure but I think those figures come out under the cap. Also I'm assuming the guy we are looking to acquire has to be an expiring contract correct? Edit: or at least should probably be, but I guess we can deal them in the offseason if we need to.

    Just bring on the playoffs. I want to find out if the Hawks are just coasting or simply not as good as years past. As an outsider looking in I think there are issues. But still plenty there to make a run though Oh for sure. The Kings seem to play very mediocre all season and then turn it on in the playoffs. As did the Hawks last year, albeit not quite as bad. I'm just saying the team is playing pretty poorly right now. An 8 game homestand should get you 11-12 points minimum I don't care if you are just hoping to coast into the playoffs or whatever. But I guess we just have to see what Bowman does this week and then hold on until the playoffs to see how good they really are.

    Not a great start to today....are we really going to win just 2 of 7 straight home games? I know they've mostly been good teams but you figure if the team was just coasting until the playoffs they would have a "yeah we're still a great team" games where they just dominate. Even the games we've won these 7 home games were rather uninspiring. One was a shootout win against a very good team, the other required a 3rd period comeback to beat a really bad team.

    I know I know they'll be fine until they aren't. I just wish they didn't play sub .500 hockey for 2 straight months.

    Mother [expletive]. Hawks commit 2 penalties on the same play then the Avs score 2 PP goals in the first 30 seconds. From 1-1 to 3-1 just like that. Hawks looking to fall to 2-1-3 on the homestand. Sorry but 5 points in 6 games at home is not acceptable

    The Bears arent actually considering getting rid of Cutler to save moneey. Even complete idiot GMs arent that stupid. This is all media scrutiny in order to cater to meatball fans. Cutler isnt going anywhere unless Tennessee offers their first round pick for him. Fans and some media members just cant think clearly or rationally about this. No Cutler, no chance to compete. According to Bernstein the Bears maybe trying to go the Cubs route and suck to get better. He's got a raging boner about it. Every time he talks about it you can hear the glee in his voice. I guess no one told him that a team doesn't need to do that in the NFL. God that's idiotic. I could be wrong but I don't think any team ever goes into a season hoping to tank in the NFL. Even the Jacksonvilles of the world hope that a good draft class, an easy schedule and some luck will get them into the playoffs. After 6-8 games sure there are some teams with an eye on better draft positioning.

    I just don't understand the need for another big without getting rid of one. The advance stats suggest that Mirotic should be playing more (at the 4, not the 3) and is already struggling for minutes. Getting Perk would give him less playing time. And he's certainly not a guy thats going to stretch the floor like Mirotic would.

    I don't necessarily think the depth of the conference is an issue, there are just less legit contenders this year. By KenPom: Top 10 teams: 3 vs. 1 Top 20 teams: 4 vs. 2 (full disclosure MSU is 21st this year) Top 30 teams: 5 vs. 3 Top 50 teams: 8 vs. 6 (again full disclosure Indiana is 51st this year) Then it evens out Top 70 teams: 9 vs. 9 Top 90 teams: 10 vs. 10 Top 100 teams: 11 vs. 11 Last year the last Big Ten team (NW) was 131st, this year the bottom 3 teams are Nebraska (110), NW (122), Rutgers (203). So beyond the top 50, Maryland and Rutgers were added, Maryland basically replaced Nebraska in the top 50, and Rutgers was bad like we expected. Also is Ohio State really the 14th best team in the country? Geez, I would have guessed somewhere in the high 30's

    Ugh. What the hell do we need another frontcourt guy for? Perkins is barely better than Nazr at this point. Can't wait to see Hinrich and Perkins attempting to close out playoff games

    THISs There is no freaking reason to have loser's points. You play for 65 minutes and its still tied, you take your point and move onto the next one. No need to add a skills competition to force a winner. I wonder how many times a playoff spot was decided by a team with more shootout wins. I'm sure its not a ton but it's probably happened. Off the top of my head 2010 Flyers, got in because they won the shootout in the last regular season game. Of course we all know they made it all the way to the Cup Final only to lose to the Hawks This is true, but I was more referring to a playoff team that wouldn't be in the playoffs if the loser's point didn't exist. Here's an example: Here is the bottom of the West playoff bracket currently: WC1: Winnipeg 30-19-10 70 points Pacific 2: Calgary 32-22-4 68 points Pacific 3: Vancouver 32-21-3 67 points WC2: Los Angeles 27-28-23 66 points OUT: San Jose 29-22-8 66 points Here is how the standings would look if at the end of OT both teams got a point: Pacific 2: Vancouver 30-23-3 63 points Pacific 3: Calgary 29-25-4 62 points WC1: San Jose 27-25-7 61 points WC2: Los Angeles 26-23-8 60 points OUT: Winnipeg 24-25-10 58 points So Winnipeg goes from 4 points up on a playoff spot to 2 points behind San Jose goes from out of the playoffs to the first WC spot Vancouver and Calgary switch places
