  1. Castro just basically decided to swing at every pitch in that AB.
  2. I think it says basically that humans are not able to consistently judge balls and strikes correctly. Some are a lot better than others but overall they cannot have 100% accuracy. Plus umps are unintentionally influenced by external factors like the home crowd, the reputation of the pitcher, etc
  3. How would it affect the Pirates confidence for the WC game if they failed to reach base against Jake tonight?
  4. This is the part where it's revealed that a fan snuck into the umps locker room and somehow managed to get on the field
  5. Robot umps. Jesus make it happen already
  6. If Jake pitches CG SOs tonight and his last start his ERA would finish at 1.73
  7. Voted Pirates and that is almost exactly how I feel. I would not feel good at all facing Cole and Liriano 3 times in a 5 game series. Meanwhile the only St. Louis pitcher to beat us in the 6 games we most recently played is out for the season.
  8. Why is that in our best interests It's not. I don't want to lose but the argument is (at least as I understand it) if the Pirates and Cardinals tie they will likely burn their best starters going for the division. But I'm on the "we need to play the Pirates in a 1 game vs 5 game" bandwagon. Plus I'm not able to cheer against my teams even if it's in their best interests. I've tried but I can't. I understand the logic. But getting swept by a team you are going to see in the playoffs in 2 weeks isn't ideal in any scenario. If the Cards end the season 1 game better than the Pirates, the whole "why didn't we just throw that Sunday night game?" won't cross my mind. The Cubs will still have one of the best 3 pitchers on the planet Earth throwing in that game. I don't think the Cubs getting swept this series would have any effect on their confidence to beat the Pirates in a 1 game playoff. It's not like we haven't proven we can beat them. But again I'm not sure why I'm arguing for a side I'm not on. One final thing is that a) if it was the cardinals I am not scared of any of their starters so the benefit isn't big and b) personally facing Liriano is almost as scary of a situation as facing Cole for me
  9. I love Cutler and all but I don't think using Jimmy Claussen as a barometer of success is a good idea.

  11. Omg that was intense. Neither my opponent or I have any players after the 4pm games. All his guys games were final. I still had Tannehill and Matthews (Miami WR) left with 4 mins left and was down 0.3 points. Tannehill threw a 9 yard pass, leaving me up 0.1 points and then proceeded to hand off the ball a bunch of times in a row. I thought they were just running out the game but they kept getting 1st and were in a goal to go situation. Now [expletive] Tannehill is throwing again and while I did want more points in case of stat corrections, I'd didn't want to risk an INT, Fumble or sack to lose rushing yards. Of course he throws 3 straight times. The last time on 4th down he almost gets sacked then throws the ball up for grabs where it bouncers off the DBs hands on to the ground. Phew. I will update with a nice long rant when they found out that one of my RBs was credited with 2 yards it shouldn't have and I lose
  12. to yearn for the days of DeCamilis is sad
  13. I expected to be down at least 2 scores at this point. Given how Arizona is dominating again maybe we can somewhat dismiss at least some of last week
  14. i sort of understand this as the Cubs are less effective offensively against lefties (right?) and the Cubs more often than not struggle against Liriano and it allows them to set up their rotation for the NLDS if they win with Cole starting twice. But at the end of the day Cole is the better pitcher, the Pirates aren't going to take any risks in a 1 game playoff, and the Pirates have a deep enough rotation with Liriano and Burnett that they can likely survive with Cole only going once in a 5 game series.
  15. Because we in general are giant worriers here
  16. Almost 90 mins into the Sunday afternoon games and no thread? Marshall with a boneheaded play. Caught the ball and as he was going down tried to lateral it but there were 2 defenders there who turned it into a recovered fumble. Idiot
  17. Killing myself trying to decide between starting Mason or Gurley. Mason is practicing with the starters in warmups but I could totally see Gurley getting more carries as the game goes on if he looks good
  18. Sure there is. I'd either skip him or limit him to like 3 innings tonight if they don't want him to have a long layoff. Now that we're not going to catch the Pirates, there's really no point for their hitters to get 3-4 more looks at him. Meh. They've seen him what 5 times this year? I'd rather keep him on a consistent workload of at least 80-90 pitches
  19. NO. There's no point. He's in a groove right now, making him rest for 10 days is silly. And if you suggest moving him to tomorrow then he isn't lined up to start the Wild Card game. Start him but limit to 100 pitches this start and next - high leverage or not.
  20. Hammel hasn't been right since he got hurt in that Cardinals game in July. I believe it was the Peralta game. Yeah he had maybe 1-2 bad starts before he got yanked I want to say. He was trending down at that point
